The Chinese fishing boat was an unarmed civilian vessel being harassed and later pursued by several larger, armed, military vessels. Given that, the Chinese crew had ample reason to feel threatened by the situation and attempt an escape by whatever means necessary. The Japanese people should be embarrassed by the entirely unwarranted actions of it's military towards civilians.

Japan just love to get between ROC ( Taiwan) and PROC. Now both of them are united together to get a piece of Japan. Especially with all the right wing party in Japan with all the Pro- "Nippon", things are not going to settle. Japan has the record of lying their own recent history to their own people, I don't think they are completely truthful to their people about the history neither.

The treaty said Japan was limited to the main islands and other islands determined, however as part of the 1969 okinawa reversion treaty the islands were returned to Japan, conveniently timed as possible oil reserves were just announced by the UN.

The islands were used and owned by the US for a time until the 1969 okinawa reversion treaty the islands were returned to Japan, conveniently timed as possible oil reserves were just announced. tldr: Both sides have arguments, Japans is stronger but it doesn't matter because oil was discovered.

@Astidcrisse You're the one that is misinformed... In the long version of these videos you can see the fishing boat was stationary and utilizing its fishing nets. It was idle. When the Japanese Coast Guard was passing, the fishing boat suddenly goes full speed ahead, evident from the thick black smoke that comes up immediately. THIS IS the SECOND incident, where a second Coast Guard boat is chasing the fishing boat because it rammed the previous one. Yes, the boat rammed the Coast Guard twice.
