This tour was mega, the Wembley show was ace. But it was also a lesson in how bands should play their songs for a while live before recording them because the Pop album songs' arrangements were so much better live after being played for months. The Pop album may have been better had they recorded them the way Gone is here. Still love the album as it is though!
"Hutch... going, going but not gone...".... reference there to Bono's buddy, Michael Hutchence.... shortly after his death... (heard that Bono was very upset that he couldn't be with Michael towards the end because of this tour... and Bono being in Mexico... Ali told Bono that she spoke to Michael in Sydney shortly before his death... and she said he wasn't himself.... that something was wrong....)
great album.. nobody understood it, NOBODY! lyrics are fantastic, music amazingly original, and everything is really experimental... i think it is much better than "all that you can't leave behind"
imo it's not better than All that you can't leave behind, which is actually one of my favourites. Pop is an album I really like though.. I would rank it around #6, so somewhere in the middle.. There are periods I can't stop listening to the album.. Once you pop you can't stop!
@matteogege92 i think your are right in a way but...... its not better or worse its just different stages of somebodys life life as you grow.... so it just different.... but alsp miles ahead of anything that ws going on in the 90's..... they are awesome... and this one is one of my favourites
@matteogege92 I'lll always have soft spot for ATYCLB for introducing me to U2 all those years ago, but I think I agree with you. 'PoP' is simply great - brave, inventive and gritty. Raw, bone crushing power of 'Do You Feel Loved', gentle riff in 'If God Will Send His Angels' or 'The Playboy Mansion', wonderful, sadly overlooked song... And those lyrics - exceptional, bitter and clever... Maybe it'll get someday credit it deserves.
@matteogege92 ATYCLB is really the only U2 album I love less than Pop. But then again, the worst of U2 is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the best of anyone else.
@matteogege92 my friend, u are wrong. admitted, pop was one of their best albums, with spiritual and experimental music, but all the u cant leave behind was better. songs such as kite, beautiful day and walk on were beautiful, and not just hard pop music. that album was more emotional and understandable and, overall, more u2. my opinion, thumbs up if u agree.
good song. but they had a bad manager.. they could have done so much more better. if i was thier manager they would have went more rockin g direction...
I don't understand: means "Hutch" Michael Hutchence?
his dead friend Michael Hutchence?
because Bono was angry of Hutchence, because his suicide...... is this the reason that Edge is evertime raging when they play that song? like in Boston 2001?
true - but was funny to see how edge in the end cant bear to bash one of his guitars about (but how could he, theyre all prob like his children) but rather ... somewhat angrily slide it across the floor towards the drum kit - but all the same i have the same rick guitar, it wouldnt take much punishment to do it in - very delicate guitar (hollow body) something like a strat you could probably use to drive nails.
This has gotta be one of the greatest songs of all time ... it sounds like the calling of God.
Can't understand why some critics call POP a lowpoint for U2, maybe the music is light years ahead of you, perhaps you'll wake up one day (hopefully before you're gone) and recognize it for what it is .. a U2 masterpiece.
Given the quality of Achtung Baby and Zooropa that preceeded it, the Pop album was weak. By no means bad but other than a few it just wasn't there. They even said themselves it wasn't good enough.
absolutely. incredible album. beautiful dayy? don´t make me laugh

@matteogege92 The problem with "Pop" is that the studio releases sound limp. But they were the complete opposite translated live...

No, in Boston the Edge was pissed at Larry for ending the solo too quickly, hence Edge slamming his guitar down and storming over to Larry xD...
