Loved this film as a kid, but when it came to this scene, I always had a problem.
Before they drove off the cliff, Jeremy and Jamima where wearing hats (paperboy hat and straw hat), and when they're flying off the cliff the hats are gone (understandable, because of the speed they were going and all that scientific stuff)... but Truly's hat stays on, and the shawl never moves.
i had a ride in the car what recantly sold in los angeles it used to belong in the uk and i am a huge fan and wen it came to town were we live i just had to have a ride in it :P
They just made homage to this in the last scene of a American Dad Episode tonight. The Jeff the stoner hippie Hayley is with turns his van into chitty chitty bang bang. I laughed my ass off.
@rushthezeppelin I watched it last Friday when my little brother mentioned it, and when I saw for myself, I... well... I kind of made a bit of a fanboy scream. XD Either way, I guess it shows that Seth MacFarlane is a true blue CCBB fan. :)
I have a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Car Toy...I love it!! I used to play with it during all my childhood...I was the happiest child without Wii, Xbox or Playstation...
I think "Chitty Bang Bang" was one of the best movies ever made....and Dick Van Dyke was one of the best all time actor and comedian being up there with Charlie Chaplin and Jerry Lewis !
He also has the original Corgi Batmobile.. it has the saw blade in front and "flames" that come out the back when it rolls.. it also has a rocket launcher that really shoots small diameter (tooth pick size) projectiles.. Corgi made some really cool cars back then.
@coldfarted Yes...Corgi made some accurate special cool cars with details. Today these are high value.Chitty-Chitty is the only 'film-car' that I got in my collection where ther' are mostly cars of the 50/60/70...
@coldfarted The orginal Corgi Toys model that I got is really full of details and in excellent conditions; its worth is about Euro 400 with original box, but I have not the box.

This actually made me tear up; it's is my childhood.:) I fell in love with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when I was a little girl and I always thought it was the most magical thing in the world. I loved it so dearly that I asked for it every Christmas but never got it. Then, a couple years ago my wish finally came true and I received the special 2-disc DVD edition of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which came in a beautiful golden cover. I will forever love this movie. :)
Chitty's always gonna be there to save the day. Because she's a true genie. I know this is gonna sound corny, but Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was one of my first true super heroes!! I mean, she could do ANYTHING!!
the thought of a car that floats on water & even flies is enough to keep a litte boy's attention during one Saturday afternoon while watching this on the VCR, but just one there I could not stand.
Because the movie was
long enough for an intermission(this was made before the pause button was created for the remote control) the intermission popped up as the car goes over the cliff!
It's not as shocking as you would think. The technology has been around for a while, "The blue screen and traveling matte method were developed in the 1930s" (wiki) Even 3D is really old. "The earliest confirmed 3-D film shown to a paying audience was The Power of Love... on September 27, 1922." (wiki) You would be amazed if you looked at film history when things were developed.
Don't have to be queer to watch these it's a bit of escapism i will sit and watch a musical with my wife she loves them i also get to watch kids films with the kids and then i have my time and watch crime and action adventure films.
No one asked you for your opinion. If you have a problem with it then that is ur fault not mine. So y don't u just keep your mouth shut and go hide under a rock. The last time i saw this movie i was 5 so i only like what i remeber of it. so how bout before u go acusing ppl and stuff u get ur facts and story straight first.
I am 45 and still gasp as the car goes off the cliff. I too had the metle toy car, and wish I still did! Where can I get one? I am crying! We love you chitty, chitty, bang, bang!
im younger than you (24) but i still get shivvers up my spine as she plummits off the cliff then i she unfurls her wings and takes off!. just brilliant! :D. I have the plastic corgi toy, and the large scale model, pining for the small metal corgi one :).
