Very sad to announce the death of Rick Stawinski, January 1, 2012 in San Celmente, CA. Rick joined the Camel Drivers after Sunday Morning 6'O'Clock. God Bless and may he jam on in heaven.
A new improved soundtrack has been posted under The Camel Drivers Sunday Morning Six O'Clock Version 2. Check it out and hear how the song really sounded.
I love The Camel Drivers' version of Lou Christie's I'm Gonna Make You Mine (Top Dog A-201). When was it released? Was there any connection to Buddah Records, Lou Christie or the songwriter, Tony Romeo? Please post any Camel Drivers I'm Gonna Make You Mine radio charts or trade magazine ads/reviews (with DATES)! Thanks for all the great Camel Drivers stuff you've already posted!
I'm Gonna Make You Mine was brought to the Camel Drivers by Neil Bogart, President of Buddah Records as the follow up to Sunday Morning Six O'Clock. We recorded the song and then went on a cross country tour. During this tour, Top Dog was notified that Buddah wanted the singers, Tom, Terry & David to fly to NY and redo the song with Tony Romeo producing. The group was not advised of this and only learned about it after the song had been given to Lou Christie and was on the charts.
The Camel Drivers were AWESOME!...I remember hearing "Sunday Morning 6 O'Clock" & "You Made A Believer Of Me" constantly on WKNR here in Dearborn, and also on CKLW out of Windsor, Canada when I was a young teen.- I still have all of WKNR Music Guides with their records on them.
I have all of their '45's on Top Dog & Buddah, which I think was about 6 or 7 singles..Were there any others released?..
By the way, my mother went to high school with Artie Fields, who owned Top Dog Records.
Yes, me too--same time period!! Northwest Detroit near Northland!! Keener 13 Music Guides (Green and White) were worth walking to Northland every week for--and yes I still have plenty of CKLW and WKNR guides from the 60s!! Precious commodities!!!!
Tom Curlin was my 6th-grade teacher while moonlighting with the Camel Drivers in 1967-68. I caused all kinds of trouble. TOM- WHEREVER YOU ARE - I'M SORRY, BUDDY!! Sunday Morning 6 O'Clock is actually one of my all-time favorite songs. - Geoff K.
