@16enChamade I get very fed up by people commenting badly about an informal snapshot video recorded with all the stops out with a camcorder audio that cannot cope and people don't have the discernment to look at good recordings of good playing with good registration and comment positively where good comment is due. Have a look at "Ben Scott - Corrette Grand Jeu avec Tonnerre" where you will be able to comment objectively rather than subjectively.
well I certainly can agree with that...it sounds absolutely vulger to say the least ....his playing however is nice..except for the 32ft which is not at all necessary for this piece
@16enChamade Search "French Baroque Masterclass Grand Jeu" and comment there on whether the organ is horrible. This recording is bad on account of the automatic volume control of the camera being overloaded: it's not the organ. Listen to "Hugh Potton Reubke" and "Jeremy Filsell Hollins" and you'll here what this instrument is really made of . . . Please do feel free to comment there about how bad you feel the organ is. It's amazing the number of people who are negative who cannot be positive.
I hate this instrument; It just slams your head around. I've seen it on YouTube so many times. Its MIDI'd to death. I think the only person who really knows how to play it is Hugh Potton. Of course, Ton Koopman would love it and get wild and crazy on it as he did on the Freiburg.
@homoignobilis One of my favourite recordings of Reubke is of Hugh playing this instrument. There are a lot of stops to choose from and the art is knowing which to use. That's not a reflection of the instrument, which is intended to be versatile, but of the wisdom of the player. Of course proper recordings help rather than camera recordings such as this - and this is part of the "slam your head around" perception. Search "jcm Reger" and "Filsell BWV 685" to hear what this instrument is made of.
This is a very bad sound recording made through the camera mic - listen to "Hugh Potton Reubke" and "Jeremy Filsell Hollins" and you'll here what this instrument is really made of . . .
Wow an organ nerd....just like me.thanks brother, i will never walk alone from now, a brilliant performance, but can somone tell me where this organ is?? pleeese
Yuck! The organ is ugly, it looks messy with all those MIDI expander boxes and most important: it sounds awful. It's a shame they call monster like this a organ!! On the other hand, the organist seems just nice.. :)
@Musicoholist This is not a properly recorded example. Please see videos "Latrobian Whirl", "French Baroque Masterclass", "Ben Scott Liszt" and "Hugh Potton Reubke" to hear of what this instrument is capable. It's purpose is a concert organ to put the repertoire of the King of Instruments onto the concert platform, which as you shall hear, it does extremely well. It also has one of the only Grand Tierces in the country and will demonstrate Meantone temperament.
@Musicoholist Look up the recent recording of Alfred Hollin's Concert Overture by Jeremy Filsell on this instrument. It has the tonal resources approaching those of Wanamaker or Atlantic City and needs just as much careful registration as those instruments.
Try "Hugh Potton Reubke" and "Latrobian Dionysan Whirl" for two pieces recorded well and played by two organists who take care on their registration. See what you think on those.
The sound on this recording is completely dominated by my first experiments in French Trumpets. One can't judge an organ by just one stop injudiciously chosen and not intended to blend in ensemble.
@Angultimmarik Speaking for someone who's played this Organ, recordings do not do it justice at all, if you actually play it, you'll love it, its incredibly versatile and me, David and a friend spent sometime adjusting it to make it sound more pipe-organ like, hear it/play it before you judge this Organ. Stopwise you have to be very sparing and careful what you select as there are many surprises.
The sound of this recording is being dominated by the French Trumpets which should be used as part of the French Grand Jeu and have to be used very sparingingly with full organ in other contexts.

@latribe Whoa! Very fine sound indeed! Just if the buttons weren't blue...
Altough the organ still looks ugly, it truly sounds good when recorded with a good mic! :o)
Thanks!
