  • Irene is such a fucking bad ass.

  • I adore how the royal looks at Watson to see if he too figured it out and instead Watson is just gaping. Also the king chucks the mask over his shoulder...I'm sure Sherlock will add that to his disguise collections

  • Wish she was prettier

  • It looks like that actress has had a nose job and a few other things done, and it couldn't be more depressing. Couldn't they have found a natural beauty for Holmes to fall in love with? =/

  • "Pooh, Pooh! Forgery!" He said that much quicker than how I imagined it when I read the book. ^^

  • She was beautiful, betwitching, daring and had the nose of Michael Jackson

  • 'We were both in that photograph'.. Now Holmes would say: 'Photoshop'

  • It's just weird how a Paris Hilton vid is on top of video suggestions. Plus this guy who was this client was like god batman?

  • It's just weird how a Paris Hilton vid is on top of video suggestions.

  • The king looks like the king from Disney's Cinderella (at 4:43)!

  • started watching the brett series. kind of sense effeminism in sherlock's gestures

  • the actress who plays irene adler looks like shes been to plastic surgery one too many times..

  • They make us Czechs look like some barbarian Russians or Albanians.

  • OH, silly king.

Also, King of Bohemia and Irene in boydrag in the Victorian equivalent of a strip club = fifty different kinds of amazingawesomewonderous.

And Brett has Holmes' laugh down pat! Watson once said that Holmes' laugh always boded ill for someone, after all.

  • when Holmes started laughing at 8:09 I burst into laughter and spilled a full glass of milk on my shirt "mhm... yes... yes it is very serious indeed"

  • That kings looks so silly, and he acts silly, too :D

*takes mask off and throws it away dramatically* Muhaha!

  • I love how Holmes totally can't take him seriously

  • That is not a very good mask, in my opinion, it only hides the eyes.

  • @HarryplusHermione

if i ever met him, it wouldn't be his eyes i'd be looking at, it'd be his crazy beard...

  • 0:30 .. IT'S ZORRO :O

  • *tune of girls just wanna have fun*

    oh girls just get married!

  • Warsaw. Warszawa! :) How nice to hear it!

  • The EPIC Holmes laughter...is EPIC>>x<<

  • 8:15 *still laughing* ehemyes, it is verry serious , indeed

    XD

  • My god, that mask surely covered his identity perfectly.

  • 8:58....yeah your not gonna get into debauchery with that music lol

  • I loved the 'I'll just chuck some papers here and POSE *pouty lips*'

  • what's with the masked orchestra ? WTF?

  • "I am the King"

    "I AM YOUR FATHER"

  • This portrayal sullies the quintessential beauty that Irene Adler had in my mind as I read the short story. I envisioned her to be exquisitely attractive with a lady-like panache, independent and strong willed. The actress, though bearing much of Irene's personal attributes , looked a little too matured for this pertinent role in Sherlock history.

  • two people flow with stagnation.

  • Jeremy Brett: Greatest Laugh Ever.

  • I love how he just discards his Zorro mask on Holmes floor with no thought at all. lol!

  • Is it me or does the Bohemian king look like Richard Dreyfuss in a Zorro costume???????

  • what's with the blindfolded orchestra?

  • @greengrendel Eyes Wide Shut, "Fidelio" lol!

  • @greengrendel So that they don't see what the king is doing and can't blackmail him I'd imagine.

  • "Why indeed..."

You can't hide anything from Holmes!

  • Is it just me, or do they give each other a look 7:35 when the king tells us he is 'but 30'?

  • Nonsense, Watson! Stay where you are . . . I am lost without my Boswell

Somewhere around here I have my copy of Boswell's biography of Johnson, the 1st great modern English biography - a protegé's honest account of his mentor.

English biographies at the time had been full of pompous exaggerations.

  • This might be a dumb ? but why exactly are the musicians blindfolded?

  • 8:07 - 8:20 always makes me burst into laughter. Such an infectious giggle!

  • We were both in that photo graph....

    "Cropted!!!"

  • haitagan, remember that Conan Doyle was writing a work of fiction. Maybe he did not want to insult any real monarch, so in his fictional universe he made Bohemia an independent kingdom (as you say, in real life, at the time, Bohemia was a non-independent kingdom of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and the King was one and the same as the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef). The King was also planning to marry the daughter of the King of Scandinavia, another non-existent state.

  • Bretts calculated mania is one reason why i prefure this version to the original books ... you can easily tell he isnt sane in the same way anyone else is, hes not mad in any way just thinks very differently

  • @Valen123456 =D I love the way you worded that! Perfect way of putting it ^_^

  • @haitagan thats the idea it is a fictional countrie

  • I love Sherlock Holmes & Irene Adler! by Sidney Paget :-))

  • I like Sherlock Holmes!

  • It's unfortunate type-casting that this same actor who portrays the king was also a Nazi officer in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

  • I like how at 1:50, when hes telling them he lied about his title (name), Holmes is all "I so knew that, I was just testing you."

    LOL!

  • LOL at Holmes's insane laughter. And at the look on Watson's face when he finds out their client is a king. For crud's sake, sit down, you twit! Holmes isn't standing!

    Holmes is so cool.

  • I'm so in love with the posh English accent :333

    American accent is so horrible!

  • haha, Holmes' laugh is awesome ! :DD

  • Sherlock Holmes ROCKS :)

  • his laughing is so amazingly insane :)

  • Of course, you must remember that all the kings and noblemen throughout Europe were all related to Queen Victoria--The House of Hanover

  • his steepled fingers make me smile :P

stupid watson, sit down already. dont make him command you to.

'still. no. sign of it. '

    *holmes rofls uncontrolably*

    'this is serious!'

'uhm. *recomposing himself* yes it is. *cant help grinning* very serious indeed.'

i giggle. and i dont giggle. oh the spontaneousness.

  • "I must swear you to secrecy for a period of two years."

    Watson: *freaks out*

    Holmes: (gleeful) I promise!

  • Lol...Holmes laughs at the king as he sees he is an idiot. And also at the king's self-indulgent aristocracy. Holmes classiness is swift and elegant, quite contrary to that of the king's

  • lol, I love that he just throws the mask behind him in their apartment? :P

  • Oh he is wearing a Halloween costume. No one will notice that. Plus how could you possibly recognize someone when you see like 90 percent of his face? Well done, idiot king.

  • @lollipopfop He's the king of Bohemia. How many people in London are going to physically recognise someone from a foreign country especially at a time when the media was limited to newspapers and very rarely photographs. I presume the king felt safe with such a scant disguise, unfortunately for him he underestimated Holmes' memory and huge record of people's details he keeps on file ^^

  • AHAHAHAAH im reading this atm and they act it out really really precise to the book

  • Jeremy is so cool, o my godxD

  • who is the woman (actress)

  • I like how Holmes "cleans" the sitting room by throwing all the papers behind the sofa. He cleans the way I do!

  • @FlippinBooks Me too! lol

  • @FlippinBooks I didn't notice that. :O

I clean that way too. xD

  • ahahahahahha the faces of these characters is soo funny ahaha look at 7:52 - 7:57 the guy sounds like a sped!!

  • I wonder why they portrayed Irene Adler as British after explicitly stating she was an American. Maybe the actress couldn't do the accent...

  • @s8ntmark

That actress is actually American;her name is Gayle Hunnicut

  • I love his laughter on 8:10 this is so cute, masculine and heart-warming up.

  • LMAO @ "Poo Poo-- forgery!" 5:30 And Jeremy's hand business in that few seconds is GENIUS!

  • king by day, superhero by night!

He had just forgotten to remove a costume piece from the night before!

  • Holmes German is cute;-)

  • I love how Holmes arches his eyebrow.

  • This guy count a hole is a douschbag

  • Agreed. I think Ms. Adler just wants to give this royal rat sleepless nights and the nervous breakdown he deserves. She's taking her revenge on him, and probably doesn't care about him marrying somebody else.

  • Love Holmes' laughter.

  • Agreed. Probably the best laugh I've ever heard in a movie.

  • the king reminds me of Kenneth Mars: Uh rei-oyt iss ah tehr-re-ball ting to vit-ness. Vonce chu get von shhtar-ted joo can't schtop eet vit-aut bluud shed.

  • I believe... That one of, if not the, john goodman's relatives play one of the blindfolded string orchastra players

  • Yikes! That is some HARDCORE trivia.

  • That mask makes it impossible to take that man seriously. I was sniggering the entire time.

  • I'm sure the guy playing Wilhelm also played Kaiser Wilhelm in the film "The Riddle Of The Sands"

  • "We were both... in that photograph..."

    "PHOTOSHOPPED!!"

    Lol, jk.

  • Oh my that is funny

  • Your comment cracked me! ROFL!

  • Haha!! Good one!

  • Ha! Yes! Photoshopped, indeed! But not impossible then, too, by transposing negative. Alas, that arm around his highness's shoulders complicates any calms of trickery.

  • @ceruleanmist111 jajajajaja i was just thinking about that !

  • @ceruleanmist111 i can't stop adding that line now every time i watch this!

  • @ceruleanmist111 It's pretty funny but photo editing/retouching was possible by darkroom manipulation of negatives. If someone REALLY wanted to put Irene Adler in the same photograph as the king, it would have been possible in the Victorian era, it just would have been far more of a pain than it would be now.

  • @ludicrouslouisa Not true, there was no way to convincingly do that at that time per Hopkins Magic , Photography and Stage effects circa 1895. Fantastic book.

  • @ceruleanmist111 thank you for adding that, now I can't help but include it at the end every time I follow along to his script. lol

  • Fun Fact: The guy who plays the king is one of the Nazi commanders who gets jacked up from the Ark in "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

  • Erm. Brett's "Of course". *purr*

  • The actor that played the King was a tad lame and over the top. Excellent performance by Jeremy Brett and whoever plays Watson in this episode

  • "Whoever plays Watson in this episode."

    David Burke.

  • I bet Watson was thinking, "Goddamn i'm hungry" throughout this whole exchange.

It would be easy to play blindfolded for most strings, woodwinds, or any brass. Because of the placement of instruments like the flute or violin, the musician is never looking at their instrument anyways. For brass there is only ever three to four valves they are handling. Piano is the only difficulty because there is a wide range of keys. I expect cello is also difficult considering precise bow placement.

  • Comment removed

  • I've always wondered how those musicians could play blind-folded?

  • Practice. Do you or have you ever played an instrument?

  • Practice long enough, eventually you will be able to play the instrument without looking in it, just like typing on the keyboard of your computer ;)

  • umm... Does whatson occasionallywit speak with a french accent or is that my immagination?

  • Thank God he took that mask off, he looked quite ridiculous with it

  • What a naive king! If he really wanted to conceal his identity, he should have put a mask across his face, covering his remarkable mustache and sideburns, the more prominent features of his face. A Zorro mask across his eyes does no good. I wouldn't have been surprised had the cab driver identified him.

  • Yet so many celebrities do this. How many photos have you seen taken by the paparazzi of celebrities "trying to blend in" by wearing ridiculous sunglasses, scarves, hats and what not? There seems to be some correlation between wealth and the inability to appear normal.

  • I think it's kinda hot. :)

  • Wow - Anthony Hopkins copied Jeremy Brett to be Hannibal Lecter. Not just overall, but every subtle word and gesture!

  • thats true about hopkins! So identical

  • Hmm. Really? Possible they were friends.

  • What's the matter with the moustached guy at 0:32? Does he think he's Zorro or something?

  • He thought he could hide his identity from Sherlock Holmes, and in the end, he realized his folly.

Irene Adler in a dinner jacket gawking up the skirts of a can-can dancer is a little odd.... I wonder where that idea originated.

  • If Irene Adler were a real person, I don't think there would be a man on this earth who would deserve her. And she is clever enough, pretty enough, to have any she wanted.

But also loving enough to make it such a completely blissful union.

  • Great tits too!

  • Poo-poo! Forgery.

Does anyone else totally want Irene's bowler? What a great hat! The top hat is great too, for that matter.

  • Hee hee! His Majesty is a blowhard, isn't he?

  • 8:08 classic

  • amen! oh man ya gotta love Holmes

  • Dietrich from Raiders of the Lost Ark as the King. Almost didn't recognized him with that mustache.

  • oh wow...i didn't recognize him. thanks for pointing that out!

  • So that no one would know that the crown prince was fraternizing with a commoner.

  • correct...very well put.

but then, did you notice that the photographer was not blind folded...hahahahaha....

so not only the photograph is a proof but also the photographers statement.

  • In all likelihood, the photographer was in royal family's exclusive employ, and would have kept it a secret.

  • They have to be good musicians to play blindfolded(but then any musician who loves music probably could). ^_^

I love that Holmes threw down the papers at 0.03 in an attempt like they were not expecting a visitor, lol. I love Jeremy Brett's laugh, it suits what I would think of for Holmes.
