  • Is this suitable for Peacock bass in Rivers ?? And.. the bottom of the rivers are all Sea Grass..

  • @GhostInTheSea Sorry, we have no experiece with peacock bass so we're not sure if this set-up will work. Thanks!

  • @thundermistlures i don't understand how one guy on the video got double header from the 3 way swivel(1 for main line, 1 for weight, 1 for viper spoon with hook).

  • @netsamsam In this clip, there was another fluke just landed seconds earlier, but that was edited out - that's why Ivo mentioned a double header.

Thanks for tuning in and for taking time to write!

  • Also i wanted to ask you how do you actually fish for flounder? Do you drop your line and wait or is there an actual technique?

  • @tycrane44 We use the rig noted in this video and then all you have to do is drop it down to the bottom and begin to drift. You may have to let out a bit of line to ensure you are on the bottom as you drift, but once you have, you just need to hang on and get ready for some action! This is a fantastic way to catch plenty of flounder.

Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water!

  • hey guys whats a good bait for catching flounder and what size sinker and viper spoon were you using?

  • @tycrane44 A Viper Spoon with Squid is a fantastic bait for Flounder. All sizes of viper Spoons will work , but the size SP4 is a perfect size as it will accommodate a whole squid or cut bait strip. The SP3 has smaller hooks and will take a strip of squid. We typically use 3 oz sinkers, but it depends on the drift speed. The key is to ensure your sinker is heavy enough to just keep contact with the bottom as you drift along - this way, your Viper Spoon will always be in the strike zone.

  • Hey Thundermist Lures i love catching fluke but is it possible to jug from a inlet on the jettie or do you recomend any other method

    Thanks

  • @1681ricky You can use bucktail jigs from a jetty. Just cast & jig it in. White is a good color that work for fluke. You can also try a jig head with a white twister tail. This will work for you as well. Thanks & good luck!

  • @AwesomeWweThemeSongs It's a series of rods they sell at Cabela's Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water!

  • or mackerel

  • the best bait to catch fluke is sandeel i caught therteen in a row with that

  • @mcginley271 Thanks for writing in and sharing your tips with us!

  • I SAW A WHUPPIN STICK :D

  • @TheFishingCentral Good find - thanks for writing in and good fishing!

  • SAME LEADER SET UP, WITH JUST LIVE ANCHOVIE DOES THE TRICK TOO

  • @JaydenzDaddy1 Yes, that certainly will work. Thanks for sharing & good fishing to you!

  • wow where are you guys fishing? its cool to see that fishing methods vary in the regions... i live in texas and fish the gulf and we catch flound on live shrimp and live mullet with a steel leader with a 1/2 oz. weight on the leader, never had any luck with artificiall except burkley gulf 4 in white shrimp!! those work great but its hard to beat live shrimp and mullet!!! good luck bro, fish on

  • @MrSwampdonkey99 We fish alot along the east coast. Nice that you found a good bait that works for you! Thanks & good fishing!

  • now I am a mature adult so let me say this "flounders are scary"

  • @50EagleEye Thanks for writing in and sharing your thoughts with us! Until next time good luck and good fishing.

  • I am kind of new to fishing, been catching some croaker, pin fish, little fish ect. what do you think i sholud use? i fish off the dock at Merchants lane it NC Carolina beach..any tips for those fish there?

  • @Scotty2asian Since you are new to fishing, try various methods. Try a simple 2 hook & sinker set-up with squid pieces & still fish. Try jigging - use bucktails & cast & retrieve (or vertical jigging if the water is deep enough).

Also try casting & retrieving body baits, spinner baits, spoons. Experiment with these methods & you should catch more fish & hopefully bigger ones! Good luck!

  • Where Can I Get One?????

  • @1681ricky Bass Pro Shops carries SP1, SP4 & SP5 sizes of Viper Spoons in various stores and on line. If you can not find what you are looking for, you can alwyas go to Thundermist lures .com or contact your local store and ask them to set up an account with us.

Thanks for writing in and until next time, good luck and good fishing!

  • i was an idiot one time. i had a large 2 ft flounder 6-10 lbs. I put back in the water to revive it still on the hook. as the waves pulled out, i pulled the flounder out, and the hook ripped through the lips, i was bummed, shoulda put it on a stringer

  • @LAXingFisherman Thanks for sharing your story with us and our viewers....that was one nice door mat!

  • i caught my first flounder at the age of 9. it was very hard to reel in at that age. this was from the docks too, not on a boat :)

  • @ceelo4 Thanks for sharing your story with us and for tuning in to our videos.

Until next time, good luck and good fishing.

  • when does fluke season start?

  • @DevilsMetsGiants As of today, we did not see the fluke season posted - it will be posted on the Government marine Fisheries web site...hopefully soon!

Thanks for writing in and good fishing. Hope you catch plenty of nice fluke this year!

  • can you use this rig from the shore? if you did, would you just reel it in very slowly?

    Thanks

  • @BIGG200800 You can use this rig from shore, although it may be a bit awkward. If you do use it though, be sure to use the T-Turn as this will keep you tangle free - then, cast it out as far as possible and once it hits bottom, begin a steady retrieve (not to slow...medium speed would be best)

Otherwise, you can use the Python Darter to cast from shore with, as that works great also.

Thanks for writing in and until next time, good luck and good fishing!

  • Respond to this video... greeting from oregon. i been fishing seabass but we called that black rock fish but it has some deff colors some are yellow and red , but my question is does it work if i cast it on a briged? and does it work for salmon and halibut?

  • @MrLaince The Viper Spoon is basically a drifting/trolling lure. It does work for salmon & halibut. We have a casting version which is called the Python Darter. Just rig it with an artificial minnow or worm, or also thin cut-bait strip.

It may be casted from a bridge and retrieved slowly. Thanks for your inquiry!

  • Yum, just counting down the days until this year's season.

  • @FishOnFishing It's just around the corner! Good fishing!

  • @thundermistlures Thanks, you too.

  • @thundermistlures hey just wondering the proper way to kill these guys after catching them? thanks!

  • @thejayrush They die fairly quickly when placed in a cooler with ice. If you wish, you can pierce the brain with a pointy sharp knife. Thanks for your inquiry!

  • kk ill buy and try it out maby even make a vid on it to promote it if its any good =]

  • @harrysGS You'll love catching fluke on the Viper Spoon. A good drift speed will allow action to the Viper which will certainly get the fish's attention. Good luck!

  • @thundermistlures thx for the help

  • @harrysGS ....we are happy to help and also have many more Fluke tips (and other tips) on our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site.

Thanks for tuning in and we hope you catch plenty of nice fluke this year!

    Good luck and good fishing.

  • @thundermistlures thanks for the suggestions I'll do just that.

  • I'm pretty new at all of this. Can any one give me some tips as far as what kind of rod to buy and such. I live in California in the san juaquin valley to give you an idea of what areas are available to me. Any help is much appretiated.

  • @paimei0708 Start with a 6 foot spinning rod & reel - medium heavy action. We recommend that you visit a bait & tackle shop local to you. Tell them that you are a beginner and they will inform you of the local fish species, where to find them and how to catch them. They will provide you with the proper gear as well as some tips to become successful at catching fish. Also while you're fishing, don't be afraid to ask fellow anglers any questions as they will be glad to help you. Thanks & good luck

  • Greetings from Rio Grande Valley is South Texas. What do u suggest for flounder fishing off a pier?

  • @rjgarcia93 For flounder, you can cast out a Boa Jig'r tipped with squid and jig it back to the pier...this would be a great method and would catch you plenty of flounder. Otherwise, you can also use a bucktail jig, rigged with squid, as this will work as well.

Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water.

  • Do you have to 'bounce' your viper spoon off the bottom like you would if you were to use a regular fluke rig?

  • @nygiantsfan184 No bouncing required. The drift speed alone will make the Viper work. Just sit back and watch the rod tip for a bite. Good luck!

  • hey erm just wondering how much these lures are they look realy good and would they work in bridlington (just google map it) its in england near york =]

    thx harry

  • @harrysGS Great to hear from you in England! Took a look at Bridlington and it sure looks like you are in a fantastic spot, right on the water.

The Viper Spoons will definitely work great for you there and they start at $6.99 and up, depending on size. You can check out our on line store for all the details.

Thanks for taking time to write to us & as always, until next time, good luck and good fishing!

  • @thundermistlures ty 4 all the help i will probly buy some of them and try em oh and to you need to get far out on boat or could i just cast em of harbor wall?

  • @harrysGS If you are going to be casting off a harbor wall, we would suggest the python darter or the Boa Jig'r. The Python darter is an actaul casting spoon and the Boa Jig'r is a jigging spoon which can be cast out and jigged back to shore.

The Viper Spoons are a light flutter spoon that does get heavier once you add your bait, so it is cast-able as well if you want.

Thansk for writing in and good fishing.

  • thank-you 4 the tipse and what 2 use i went 2 a fish store and got the lure and i worked butifull i cant thank u enough

  • @DaWogBoyz ....we are so glad you enjoyed the video and that you are catching fish on the Viper Spoons - this really is a fantastic way to catch Fluke/Flounder, or any bottom fish.

Thanks for taking time to write to us and for tuning in to our videos. We hope you have many more great days on the water in 2011 Good fishing! :-)

  • @kiasoul10 We have also used night crawlers and they do work well. In our findings though, we have noticed that the smaller fluke were taking it. We don't use crawlers any more as we have better luck taking bigger fish using whole squid or larger cut-bait fillets. Thanks for commenting & good fishing!

  • is the leader that goes from the 3 way swivel to the sinker longer than the leader that goes to the viper spoon?

  • @nygiantsfan184 We think it should be a bit shorter. We like a 2 foot sinker leader and a 30 inch leader to the Viper Spoon. These combinations are great for drifting. With a drift 1mph or more, your Viper Spoon should have great action and should not be dragging bottom. Thanks for your inquiry!

  • Hey! COME AND JOIN THIS WEBSITE!:

Remember put in every letter and special character as i wrote its an exclusive

  • @MrNIRVANA100 Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water.

  • I used to use bull minnows(killifish) for all of my fluke/ flounder fishing on the gulf but soon grew tired of all the catfish and other undesireables stealing the bait. I've found a new and very effective bait that the nuisances can't usually steal off the hook. Gulp! makes a really good shrimp in different sizes and colors. The "new penny" color works best for me rigged on a white or pink jighead. The bait stealers can't pull the lure off the hook and the flounder go crazy for it!

  • @kingmackattack42 Gulp is great! Thanks for sharing!

  • @kingmackattack42 sadly i dont have the privilege of being able to go salt water fishing due to where i live but gulp works amazing none the less i recently bought some gulp crappy baits and im planning to try them out today.

  • @swindler11 I just got your reply from 20 hours ago and I'm wondering how you did on those "yeller perch'?

I just got finished watching an infisherman show where they were in Mississippi catching some huge slabs. I believe the place was called geneva lake? Supposed to be the best for crapp's.

    Anyway, good fishing!

  • @kingmackattack42 unfortunately my plans didnt work out because of the weather none of my buddies showed up so i decided to wait until another day hopefully today or tomorrow but i know a pretty good place near where i live called rice lake its great for any type of pan fish my dad use to take me there when i was younger but i havent been in a few years.

  • @swindler11 Yeah, the weather has messed up a lot of folks plans recently. I missed out on going to my sister's place for her yearly Christmas party weekend because they live on the other side of a mountain. Three cars slid off into a ravine Christmas morning in their neighborhood. Ahhh, look out!!! Nobody was injured, though.

If possible, let me know how you do out at the lake when you do go.

  • @kingmackattack42 wow thats crazy too bad about you missing your family christmas though. and yea i had the worst luck today i got skunked not a single fish i got plenty of bites and i threw everything i had at them but nothing i guess ill just have to wait until walleye season opens and ill go back to what i know best

  • @swindler11 I'm a little too far south for there to be a good chance of me catching a walleye. That's a fish I don't know much about. We do have some fair sized sauger in the rivers around here though. I've heard those walleye are fun to catch and mighty good to eat also.

  • in my opinion flounder dont look quite pleasant. but, they are great eating!! good luck catchin more!

  • @Darianslocalfishing Flounder truly are very tasty.....they have a nice, mild, white flaky meat. We posted a video last year on broiling fish - it's a simple recipe and makes for great eating. If you get a chance, check it out and give it a try - you'll love it!

  • would shrimp work i don't have a viper spoon is there another setup i could use

  • @XXXDarkdizXXX Shrimp may work although it's not the best. A 3-way set-up will work - 2 feet leader to a hook, 1 foot drop line to a sinker. Try fish cut-bait on your hook - it's better than shrimp.Good luck!

  • @thundermistlures Okay Thank you the first flounder i ever caught was off a pink jig.... I dont know haha

  • down here in fl we catch flounder that big and even bigger in 2 feet of water lol! how deep were you guys fishin in?

    tight lines

  • @floridafisherman0225 We fished flounder anywhere from 15 to 80 feet.

    Thanks for your inquiry!

  • For jigging, do you need a sinker?

  • @nmigliore You don't need a sinker for jigging as your jig is the actual sinker. Thanks for inquiring!

  • @smoothcriminal997 Squid have seasonal patterns of travel. You can ask your local tackle shop to find out when they may be found in your area. They will know. Squid may be caught with a squid jig used with your fishing rod. You may find frozen squid in a supermarket which work quite well. Thanks for your inquiry & good fishing!

  • @metalmonkey2112 Can't beat that! Good fishing!

  • @smoothcriminal997 The Viper Spoons come in 5 sizes & they work best from a boat. They are very light and therefore do not cast long distances.

Thanks for your inquiry & good fishing!

  • @metalmonkey2112 We've never fished there....good fishing!

  • YEEAAAAAAA UGLY STICK ALL THE WAY!!!!

  • @NYSports130 They are good rods! Good fishing!

  • where were you fishing? nice fish!

  • @FishOnFishing Those fish were caught in Buzzards Bay near the Cape Cod canal.

Thanks & good fishing to you!

  • @thundermistlures nice! goodfishing to you too!

  • o hell ya hes using a ugly stick, best rod ever made...

    scaredycatfishin

  • Hey Boss, last week i caught my first flounder in years! and it was off of a piggy perch, here in Galveston, TX. what if we're fishing off a jetty or wading on the surf? do i let it drag on the bottom with a slow - moderate retrieve?

  • Pig fish strips will work fine for flounder.

You're right - a slow moderate retrieve on bottom will work. Also, short quick snaps of the rod will produce a jerking motion that will catch the flounder's attention.

If you're using a Viper Spoon rigged with pig fish strip, just cast and let the Viper touch bottom then begin to slowly reel-in.

The idea is to keep your Viper as close to the bottom as possible but not actually dragging bottom. Thanks for writing & good fishing!

  • Comment removed

  • One more thing, if i'm on the surf or jetty what type of set up do you recommend? the same as the video with the 3-way sinker, or straight to the viper spoon?

  • Recommend a 3-way rig. Cast as far as you can, let the sinker drag bottom as you reel in your Viper. You have better control of the lure depth with this system and you will have the Viper in the strike zone of the fish. Good luck & good fishing!

  • Hey buddy do yourself a favor and lose the metal spoons, there for bluefish and occasionally stripers. Get yourself a hook, a clip, a 3way swivel and a 1-2oz weight, the lighter the weight the better, but

    you want to hold bottom.

As for bait use cut strips of squid (not whole squids). I'd recommend the pre-cut strips they sell in tackleshops. Also live killies work well, as well as frozen spearing (use 2 at a time and hook them through the eyes), or any other minnow.

  • im gonna have to agree with you my friend, especially when wading the surf

    scaredycatfishin

  • By the way, this is coming from a guy who has been fishing for fluke for just over 10years, and who has no interest in trying to sell a product, I'm just giving you good advice. By the way, try berkley saltwater gulp swimming mullets in white or chartruese fished on simply a jighead, no clips or weights, just a jig, this will catch you some fluke for sure, if you don't believe me don't take my advice. But if you do take my advice you'll soon learn I am not a bullshit artist. Good luck to ya ;)

  • thats also really good for speckly trout, but i rig it up to where i have two jigs on my line at once, i dont like to give away my secret spot but if your ever in galveston and have a boat go directly under the main bridge and u will catch a ton of specs...

  • Galveston flounder really like live finger mullet the best... just drag one across the bottom with an egg sinker and a split shot about a foot above the mullet.. Flounder pounders are just about the best lure out right now for flounder and you just pop it off the bottom.. white with a pink tail..

  • @fockntopnotchhoz lol im in corpus christi and i caught 20 in 3 hours they were huge too

  • what size would you use for flounder? SP3?

  • Nice to hear from you.

If we had one choice for flounder, it would be the size SP4 Viper Spoon, baited with a whole (or strip) of squid.

The size SP4 viper spoon & added squid as bait, is definitely a flounder magnet.

If you go to our thundermist fishing tips website, there is a very short video which will be very helpful showing the perfect flounder rig.

Thanks for writing in & good fishing! Ivo, Claudio, and Phil

  • great vid, im pretty new to fishing and haven't seen a rig like this, could this be used for any other fish as well?

  • Glad you enjoyed the video. This rig works great for Fluke, and YES, it is great for other fish as well.

Sea bass, Tautog, blues, sea trout and the list goes on & on. You can drift with this method or even troll.

It's a very effective way to cover water & we have our very own innovative 3-way swivel coming out in about 3 - 4 weeks, which is perfect for this application. You will find it on our thundermist lures web site in a few weeks!

Be sure to use this rig & you'll catch plenty of fish!

  • great! thanks for the info

  • Glad you enjoyed the video...it really is fantastic for Fluke/Flounder (as well as other fish as well).

In about 4 weeks, Thundermist Lure Company will also be launching an exciting new "perfect" 3-way swivel, whihc would be absolutely ideal to use in this set up.

Thanks again for writing in & good luck on the water!

  • get rid of the music but other wise pretty cool!!

  • Thanks for writing in & for sharing your feed back with us...it's very much appreciated.

We're glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck on the water & good fishing!

  • Although it's much easier to fish this way from a boat, you can certainly do the same thing from a jetty or beach.

You will need to change your set up just a bit. Put a few split shots about a foot ahead of your baited Viper Spoon.

Cast it out as far as you can & let it flutter close to the bottom - then begin to slowly retrieve it.

The Viper spoon will produce great action even at slow speeds & the slow speed retrieve will keep you close to bottom.

Thanks for writing in & good fishin'

  • why dont you eat the fish cause then what would be the point of fishing?

  • Some anglers like to catch & release - some like to catch & keep. Either way, so long as you're fishing, that's the main thing!

Thanks for writing in & good luck on the water!

  • thanks!

  • How many split shots and what size?

  • the weight of your sinker varies, as it depends how deep you are fishing & how fast you are drifting or trolling.

As a general rule, start out with 2 ounces & work your way up. The key is to be sure that your sinker is always in contact with the bottom.

So, if you do not feel bottom, add more weight until you do.

Thanks for writing in & good fishing!

  • Thanks for the tip!

  • Yes, this would work for flounder. Jig your cut herring on the bottom, and drag it periodically. Tyr to entice the flounder to bite.

Good luck in puget sound - wish we were there also! Fishing for flounder is a lot of fun.

  • someone lick my puss

  • Can you recommend any reels and rods for fishing black sea bass not too pricey.

  • As far as reels are concerned, the Pflueger president reels are a fantastic reel. They are top quality, come with 10 ball bearings & are reasonably priced.

As far as rods are concerned, if you want a durable rod which is reasonably priced, the ugly stick is a good choice. If you have a bit more in your budget, Cabelas makes a great salt water rod as well, call the salt water striker rod.

Either way, be sure to get a medium heavy rod & one piece would be best.

    Thanks for writing in!

  • sorry for being british but wtf is a fluke?

  • A Fluke is another name for a Summer Flounder.

Thanks for writing in & good luck on the water!

  • Sweet vid would this still work for flounder in estuarys? and what bait could i use as an alternative to squid?

  • Thanks for your questions.

Viper Spoons will most definitely catch flounder in estuary's - the Viper Spoon is truly an outstanding lure for Fluke / Flounder!

An alternative to squid would be any kind of cut-bait fish strip (i.e. strip of Mackerel, Sea Robin belly strip) or artificial soft plastics (i.e. white twister-tail grubs).

    Thanks & good fishin'!

  • You are completely wrong rolex...while I haven't used this lure, I use the same setup and usually outfish people 90% of the time. No lie

My biggest concern is the lure itself. While Im sure it is great for fluke fishing I am not crazy about fishing with a lure that costs $10(Wouldn't want to get a snag on that.)

A much cheaper alternative is to use Gulp! Alive Minnows. Rig it up the same way with the three way swivel and 2 ft leader to the sinker and 3 foot leader to Hook.

  • that shit def doesnt work for fluke, more like blues

  • He is using a size SP5 Viper Spoon. Size SP5 or SP4 are ideal for Fluke and work great!

Thanks for writing in & good fishin'
