Opeths tribute has more substance, not to mention being of a better quality production. But I was a fan of Camel and various other 70's prog rock outfits before I was even into Metal. I love their incorporation into Opeths sound.
forget the acoustic intro riff (which IMO sounds better than the Opeth "tribute")... the riff at 0:55 kicks everything else out of the park!! That's what everyone should be talking about!!
@MeatCANDLE Of course it's not like Yes, Camel etc... They're a metal band.. None of those bands you mentioned are metal bands.. And I don't know why switching from acoustic to electric is a gimmick.. If you actually listened to Opeth you'd see that whether not there are switches from acoustic to metal the song is always changing. I don't know why you're being a pompous douche, Opeth is a good band and their progressiveness goes beyond switching from metal to acoustic.
@leftinruinsss@HoevdingBerseBolle@MathewTheRocker Thank's fella's I will definately checkout these album's & band's. It's just amazing to me how the really artistic band's don't really seem to get the recognition they deserve. Thank's!
OMGoodness! This song is amazing! I was born in 72' and was heavily exosed to the hippy & biker culture's...I can't believe I've never heard of these guy's. Absolutely fantastic! Hey thnak's for posting this! Great music...indeed! Is there anyother great song's by Camel you would recomend?
@uatu2012 There are tons of great Camel songs, -i was born 73´ heavvily exosed to biker culture, music only -Davie Allan Arrows and such stuff, i´m glad i´ve jammed with the drummer of Camel last year.
@uatu2012 Check out these for a start..: Sasquatch, Drafted, Another night, Curiosity, Arubaluba, Stationary Traveller, Ice, Hymn to her, Dunkirk, West Berlin, Lunar sea. Surf the youtube for Camel!
@uatu2012 Well entire albums "Mirage" and "Moonmadness" kick ass! After that Camel went into more pop and mainstream music, some like it, some hate, but obvious is that first records were awesome :)
I have been a Dream Theater fan for 7 years and I can't believe it's taken me so long to get into this band!! I've always loved Damnation by Opeth and remembered Mikael commenting about being heavily influenced by Camel. I figured it was high time that I checked the band out. I am just amazed! Andrew Latimer is quickly becoming one of my favorite guitarists. I've yet to listen to a song by Camel that isn't just astonishingly beautiful. : )
The unplugged introit is firm and gentle, the cosmic no-force modulation: full stop with total modal shift: both are musicality that get the message into our head via our ear without a doubt: no margin -- then back to the introit and another crack in the cosmic egg -- the cutie-pie organ solo right after the first verse contrasts all and shows us our human silliness -- golden vocals and precise passion -- and this is merely one view of it: Never Let Go
Oh, ah doth me heareth some Moody Blues in this tour de force-less-ness --which came first ? ah it mattereth not --'tis bliss to the ear -- over and over, version after version, from the spirit to the sky ... rebirth in this one, Camel
I m very proud of being part of the 60s and 70s generation. Pure avant'garde that still is a gem o master piece. Some new generations are learning how to appreciate this because knowdledge and passion are transmitted from one age to another. Camel was a keystone as a group for me. It was very authentic and sincere and its search into its philosophy s rock. A progressive rock with tasty and class.
I think this is one of the best things I've heard in a while, besides Lady Fantasy, The White Rider, Lunar Sea, Air Born, oh wait... there's just... Camel?
It's brilliant musicians paying tribute to other brilliant musicians, and also earning them (Camel) new fans and recognition in the process. Stop being idiots please.
opeths benighted from there still life album sounds alot like this but the lead singer has stated that camel have been an influence in there work many times
You Know, They have had great songs, but this and Sasquatch are THE best, including the vocalist. he just makes me cry at times..... ah the good times.
@Lordseverin so if I'm a huge fan of Dream theater that means I can steal half of their opening riff of Dark eternal night and call it a tribute? AWESOME!
in theory. why steal something that is so obvious? It's like stealing a famous painting and wearing it around your neck as a necklace. it's idiotic. Opeth didn't steal the composition. "Benighted" is a completely different song. Sounds to me your logic is blinded by some kind of irrational dislike towards Opeth and you're trying to hide it with weird claims of plagiarisms.
@Lordseverin NO, actually I like Opeth, and the claim isn't weird; it IS stealing...You can't just call it something else just because you're an Opeth fan...
@Lordseverin It's not obvious because Camel aren't well known. Opeth may have done it in tribute but they haven't stated it on the album so it is stealing.
@HoosierMF man are you trying to tell me you think all art can be original? You birth a child in the woods, leave it there alone its whole life and see what music it comes up with. What opeth did was take a few intro notes and build an entirely new song with only a similar mood to the intro and its part of a concept album completely unrelated to this.
tell any medium author that their story of 2 lovers persecuted is stolen and they'll laugh. camel is built upon. thats art. opeth showed me camel
im 21 years old.. and my father has some discs of them.... i really like them! i wish i could live back in those years.... alll band 's music was great
I learned the intro on guitar a little while ago. Would be nice if I could learn the whole song.

I can see its inspiration in benighted.
This is a wonderful song and so is benighted by opeth.
I don't think its that exact to call it stealing.........but inspiration, definitely yes.
listen to time flies by porcupine tree, the whole song is somewhat inspired from pink floyd's dogs.........and there are plenty more examples as well.
But if this happens too often then its no longer inspiration or tribute........
