  • That. Was. Beautiful. Now I want to take up the tin whistle (that is what it is, right?) *can't play musical instruments*

  • anyone who can link a page with the notes to me?

  • my soul needs to know what kind of whistle this is! :(

  • I loved this song! You're so good at playing the tin wistle that make me crave to play one myself! I'm just waiting mine to be delivered here in Italy. Can't hardly wait to try.

It's so difficult to find some music sheet in Italy, hope I'll be able to find some on the web. Thanks for your music!

  • This is just beautiful, I love it! the soul that drives every note.. amazing! I'm just beginning to play the tin whistle and i absolutely love it! I'm just hope that I can deliver passion such as this though my playing.

  • pat o'riordan whistle in c

  • Wow, that's stunning. Could you please reveal the identity of that whistle? Please and its key too. Many thanks

    -Thomas.

  • Beautiful! It really is all about the music. The Creator said Ea and all was done.

  • I'd love to have this tune for a ringtone for my phone. How can I do that?

  • Great effect. Nice playing. Have just done a version of this tune myself. Nice vid.

  • u are soooo good...oh my if im ever half as good as u ill be lucky!!

  • Thomas Walsh wrote: "In 1970 I took the boat to Inishere, one of the Aran Islands, and fell in love with the people and the island. No traffic, no electricity, it was paradise to me and I spent 5 weeks there. The day after I got home, I lay down in the grass in the sunshine in Phoenix Park Dublin and dreamt about Inishere. When I woke, the tune was going through my brain. I have been back many times since, and you still have that peace and sense of freedom there." (more)

  • Ryan, a lovely rendition - your vibrato flutter over the keyhole is sweet.

Readers/listeners: although Ryan plays this as an air, it was written as a waltz in 1970 by Thomas Walsh. It's published in The Waltz Book 3 (notation, with chords). It's been recorded many times. (more in following post)

  • ahhhh so lovely :-)

  • I just came across this video Ryan. It's a lovely tune!

  • Simply beautiful. Thank you.

  • I love your performance of this tune, but you need to cut back on the reverb, it sounds like your playing in some huge cave.

  • So sweet man!

    Excellent playing :)

  • i love this tune, its easy for beginners aswell :P without the rolls and cuts of course ^^

i have a question i would love for you to answer.

You see, im from Norway, and i don't know any good sites who sell good quality irish tin whistles. Do you know any good sites?

  • I've seen so many of your vids and must admit that it is hard to accept that I will NEVER be able to play like you do. How long have you been playing?

  • After 23 years, I should have some skills. Don't be discouraged: play because you love it, not because you want to show off some skill. Skills fade with time and disease...but the love of the human heart endures forever.

  • That is a very nice sentiment indeed. I am teaching myself to play and am not very good, but this is exactly how I feel!

Thanks for all the great tunes! God bless!

  • what tin whistle is this?? it had avery nice sound!!

  • love this ur clas i wish i could play like u

  • im inloved with the melody... love it

  • this would sound amazing on a low whistle

  • that WOULD sound amazing!

    Or a cello maybe? :D

    ...

Or better yet, a QUARTET of cellos! xD

  • well that'll work too lol

  • hello,

i play the whistle too and im irish.

i know that song frm i was a child and i would just like to point out the name is INIS OÍRR (not inisheer lol) its an island off the west coast of ireland, inis means island in the irish language.

  • Inisheer is the common English translation, just easier on the tongue/eyes.

  • and whats the meaning of mona?

  • @UnholyCathedral bog or turf bog

  • such*

  • This is suck a good sound of music

  • makes sence. you learn something new everyday.

  • you are amazing!

  • Great playing... really haunting. Gonna try and learn this

  • is that a tin whistle??

  • yes

  • and btw, Father Duns is totally awesome for sharing his knowledge of the tin whistle. My mom got me one for 5 euros (!), so gnomeater, they're not expensive and you should get one too! ;)

  • btw chubbycharliex i did mention Gaelic. i am aware of its existence and the the beauty of that language. I just never heard it referred to as Irish. So, while Irish may exist, its official name would be Gaelic, and I did mention the existence of that beautiful language. The research I did showed me that the two names refer to the same language. The use of the term Gaelic would be more proper and accurate since Ireland isn't the only place it is spoken.

  • I had never heard of it referred to as Irish either until I went to Ireland :P Then I looked it up on wikipedia and apparently, Scottish Gaelic is considered a different language (does anyone know how mutually intelligible Irish and Scottish Gaelic are?), so saying Gaelic is ambiguous. Also, I think the Irish people prefer to refer to their language as Irish, not just Gaelic, as a matter of national pride.

  • More of this!

  • man i wish i had a whistle to learn this on :(

  • Since hearing this, it is haunting and I learned to play this song on my Chieftain High c whistle from hearing this.

  • hey dude im irish XD and i speak irish and im from armagh so like it isnt only particular countys that speak irish.

i learn it in scool im nat one of the "oldies" either we all speak it !

  • Sorry saksjn irish is what you call gaelic , and it is spoken in ireland in some parts of the country ,and yes its not well known or spoken as much as it use to be but it is still very much alive , its a pity english has taken it over . And there is such thing as Irish "Buddy"

  • they do talk in irish, but only near cork and only the "older" ones

  • Parts of Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Galway, Mayo and Donaegal have Irish-speaking communities.

There are also thousands of people who became fluent in the language by learning it in school (despite the curriculum for the language being heavily flawed).

Admittedly though, the number of people who CAN speak irish is far higher than the number who DO use it, which is a pity.

  • They speak English in Ireland buddy. Unless you were asking for Gaelic or old English there's no such thing as Irish.

  • You sure told him..... WRONG. No such thing as Irish huh? Where do you think the words shenanigan and shillelagh come from? They spoke something there before the English occupied them.... I wonder what that was???? Dolt.

  • Do you know where you can get the lyrics for this song in irish ?

  • It's not the Generation Tin Whistle... What's that for a tin whistle? It sounds a little bit smoother

  • beautiful & aweinspiring

  • AWESOME!

  • with in the first 10 seconds my eyes watered up. That is not common.. so ya must have done something very right. Well done

  • absolutely beautiful. thank you. (it's on a C whistle. just played along with it.) Thank you again, Ryan. be well.

  • Freaking deadly!! Lovely playing.

  • Hi,what kind of Tin whistle is this?

has a specific name in case I wanted to buy it?

  • tin whistle in low A

  • tin whistle in low A

  • Sounds amazing! What instrument is that? Just thinking here: its not a tin whistle, right?

  • No. I see the other videos with the same guy being called a tin whistle. I guess it just looks longer than other tin whistles.

  • I think it's a C. They're longer than the normal key of D's.

  • It is a whistle, though it's not likely to be tin. ;-)

Many flute makers also make whistles. I've got a few by Michael Copeland and Ralph Sweet.

    -jcr
