  • 2.01 to 2.16.. the essence of shrothavaha & gopuccha in 16 seconds, Harishankar Sir's method of stealing hearts!!!!! Harishankar sir more than himalayas!!!!

  • The person who plays Kanjira was not a foreigner. He was an Indian named G. Harishankar, who left us 9 years ago.

  • Wow! I dare you to clap along and keep good time...

  • sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssuperb by harishankar my guru

  • You can see Karthick sir at the back enjoying it!

  • 0:34....damn....miraculous transition from chatusram to khanda nadai !

  • The ultimate mridangam n kanjira artists respectively...wonder how exciting it would be for them to be meeting each other..as much as us or even more possibly?

  • is there any relashionship between a person with skin condition, who has white skin and blonde hair, who initially had brown pigmentation and a white man with blonde hair coz they look similar...

  • @satchi123 The relationship is that both have white skin and blonde hair ... what do you mean?

  • @satchi123 no there is no relationship except for the fact that they are both human... the person with the skin problem has a problem in producing the normal pigment for their skin while a white man produces no such pigment for his skin

  • @eelamstylez77 hmm..so a white man has no pigmentation?? is that what u meant...but if u put a white man in sunny environment for many generations.. they have red pigmentation...can it turn brown??

  • @satchi123 G. Harishankar had a condition of albinism. So he had white skin, but he was nevertheless an Indian. His Hair was dyed dark.

  • can anyone tell me what the count is on this rhythm (tala?) ?

  • its adhi tala (8) ;)

  • The flowing of a river, the turning of a spiral, the Dance of Shiva...

  • not that it matters... is he white or an albino indian?

  • Sources say he had albinism (the congenital absence of pigmentation in the eyes and skin and hair) though photos show him with dark hair, presumably dyed.Video footage shows him with pale skin and white eyebrows.

  • indian. it's a skin condition.

  • How does one get such deep sound out of that little instrument?!

  • @FascistFashion

the instrument is made from monitor lizard skin... d skin is very elastic... they use water to tune the instrument... u can tune it to any scale.... one hand plays while other presses to get the deep sound

  • Thank you!

    How interesting, lizard skin!

  • no worries, though. today they're synthetic :)

  • omgggg! this guy is AMAZING!!!!! thx 4 posting...

  • waaahhh genius

  • speed and elegancy

  • In my opinion, both the 1st & 2nd percussionists (mridangam & ganjira)have slightly different roles to play in uplifting the thani...the 1st usually raises the momentum of the thani using very attractive build-up play, sets the kalapramanam, & gives the 2nd percussionist a good(new) dimension to contemplate upon, while the 2nd takes off on that momentum, improvises on that bit of information,& offers yet another dimension to the previous or subsequent performer...a job EXCELLENTLY done here!

  • this man is a real genius... i don't think ANYONE can match him, let alone overtake him... there will be only one sun, only moon and only one Hari anna...

i'm glad that i heard many of his concerts and i feel very fortunate to have spend time with him... he only inspired me to take up Kanjira as my profession...

  • they look kinda pissed that he is there, lol

  • Genius ;( What brilliance..why did this man have to die ;(.

  • Harishankar must be the greatest musician ever lived

  • wherein the world i can listen to someone like harishankar ....i am in tears whenever i remeber he is no more ..but he lives in our hearts...

  • This man has nothing but answers to questions posed by any mridangist at all! A ganjira legend of such ability may have yet to be born after his demise,i'm sure :)

  • harishankar was incredible! we miss him for sure ! i love his deep groove. and hey, can someone please tell me what UKS stands for ? who is that ? would love to check that out too...thanx taalis.

  • Umayalpuram Kasiviswanathan Sivaraman

  • At 2:12, you can see a young Ghatam Kartick in the background (he was a student of Vikku, so that makes sense)

  • This man was a real show stopper! He could divert the audience away from all the other performers on stage. This once happened in Malaysia when he completely outclassed Zakir Hussain.

  • He is enjoying himself so much!

  • Let be honest here....G. Harishankar is the UKS on Kanjira...the tones he produces in this thani avarthanem is absolutely astronomically phenomenal.

  • i'm sorry to say - harishankar's sense of aesthetics far exceeds that of UKS. although i completely agree UKS is a genius, the two should not be equated.

  • he's amazing

  • Thank You very much!. We miss him a lot.

  • harishankar's khanda nadai is not that close to what UKS played. extremely well done

  • The legend seems to be enjoying himself in this video.

  • excellent video! Thanks! Can you please post more videos from this concert and connect them all as a playlist? that will be great, since this seems like a masterpiece concert! Please post more.

  • thank you! can you put the rest of the tani...do they go to tisra, or korapu, pharans, etc...thanks

  • Thanks great maestro. WE miss you.

  • Harishankar's khanda nadai is just spontaneous and he repeated what Sivaraman played during khanda nadai, creating an ambience of divine rythm. We will all miss him.

  • Correction to my dismay. I meant to say,

    G. HARISHANKAR's expertise strikes again.

  • G. Shankar's expertise strikes again!
