I went to High school with Matt. He was with a band called Jericho Steel i believe back then, it was the late 80's We both went to Pinellas Park High school. He was in the battle of the bands and his band ended up winning . He would do this over the fretboard type technique. When it was all over at the end of the night , he still had his guitar and was messing around with it. Even when he was no longer playing on stage. He would still be messing around with his guitar. Rest in peace my friend.

Played w/Matt in High School. i always knew he would be succesful musician.........we jammed on Central Ave in a bakery on the weekends in St.Pete. called our band Class Act.......we played covers like Maiden, Accept, did a talent show at his high school.......we played balls to the wall and told everyone in crowd that it was our song.Got back in touch w/him recently last year thru emails and such...saw him at Iron Maiden days before he died.i'm astounded. . RIP. class act for sure.....

Matt-Thanx for the many years of great music you gave us!!!I met Matt and spoke with him briefly really nice guy,saw JOP at Liquid Blue which was one of their first shows together-not alot of people knew about it so it was a really cool intimate setting -was probably my favorite show-somebody was video taping it that nite with pro cams i would love to have a copy of it,only missed one concert in the south florida shows no matter how many times i saw them it never got old

i had the oppertunity to be taught by matt... he is a great person and im truely gonna miss him and the fun times we had.. only knew him for about a year but it felt like i knew him my whole freakin life...and i just want to say that he will be in my prayers and i will never forget him... RIP Matthew D. Laport...what a good day to die on...even though you did die u will be missed... happy 420... not for matt hes dead but his lineage will remain and all the people hes touched never be forgotten
