  • this is it....

  • They had a lot of fun making videos in those days...

  • @Nexus974 everybody seemed to have fun during that time period...

  • Cool, as it was when it came out

  • These guys have been my favorite bands nearly my entire life and I just cannot believe that 80s music is already considered "oldies"! Bollocks says I!!

  • What a catchy chorus and a interesting video. Videos today are usually humorless with strippers gyrating in their underwear or less.

  • A lost classic.

  • I had to pause the video for some reason. When I came back, I laughed my ass off at what I paused it at. @3:06

  • @Aufdie87 lol... now i know what i look like when I read some of the trolling comments on here

  • @2:04 Micheal Landon?

  • @MrFlyingbird6 i watched three times... i'm honestly not all that sure

  • @MrFlyingbird6 no, it's not Michael Landon

  • @marehtseira I know but it looks like him

  • @MrFlyingbird6 No, that's not Michael Landon. The nose is all wrong and he's too young.

  • 3:07am i should go to bed but Men at Work and Thombson Twins keeping me up

  • a classic song that people will still listen 2 in another 50year,s long live the eighties

  • What song comes after One prefect day?

  • @MrFlyingbird6 Sunnyboys 'You Need A Friend' (I did add title to it) and there are two clips of that song on my channel.

  • @nzoz1982 thanks to nzoz for putting up those video clips after the Men At Work vid! I had never heard of many of the groups in those clips, being that I'm younger and from the US. I checked out the Sunnyboys clips on youtube and I now have an addiction to their songs "You Need A Friend" and "Alone With You"!

  • @marehtseira

Thanx for the comment. The main idea of showing off the mainstream/obscure stuff was to give more exposure to these groups, who either gotten attention at the time but had since been forgotten and those who didn't get their due recognition. Sunnyboys tend to be the band that most pick up on, whilst others take a little more time. Glad to see my method is working... enjoy!

  • I'm listening to all songs in your chanell.

Man At Work it's best band ever !

  • Another forgotten song done by Men At Work who if it wasnt for Michael Jackson coming out with Thriller in 82-83. Wouldve been a bit better remembered!

  • Is that Hitler Satan Oldsmobile Mazda? Sounds fierce,,,Like viagra makes lawyers taller, Dr Heckle becomes a taller and more outgoing person when he drinks

  • @79wylie thank you... i dunno, i don't think music from this time and this place is evergoing to be institutionalised.... we know all the rock greats and just that little more (our own)

  • nonz you put up some of the best video's men at work was my second favorite band outta the 80's next to duran duran still waiting on rockband or lips games to put more of this stlye of music on it

  • I think I know what potion he created. It's called Jack Daniels, and it has the same effect on me.

  • Great Huey Lewis rip off!!!

  • Great music and videos from the land down under.

  • I love Men at Work!! This video is awesome!

  • Greg Hamm at his best. Until he drinks that stuff...

  • I remember getting a mix tape from my brother back in the wee 80's with songs like this on it..thanks Dave for the memories

  • this song always makes me happy.

i love Men at Work. did back then and still do

  • haha the chorus is the best part of this. I always come here now and then to refresh

  • just brilliant!

  • hi cocked eye is soo sexxy.!!

  • what were the names of the extra songs at the end i liked them

  • @jusbow567 I just named them using annotations... just watch the section and watch again

  • @nzoz1982 oh ok thank you :)

  • @jusbow567 no worries..

  • I miss the music of the 80'.class of 85

  • Amazing its really sad the story though

  • Men @ Work were ahead of their time...that hairstyle that Dr. Heckyl (Dr. Jeckyl) is donning is in style today lol.

I enjoyed it & it was good fun to watch. Yes, I agree the slow chorus is really lovely too.

  • I have always loved this band. Thank you. Such a great feeling when I hear your sound again. Alas, always such a long wait between songs! What a pity!

  • they suffered the Best New Artist award at the Grammy's. Many artists and groups that get the award go down fast. Does anyone remember Milli Vanilli or A Taste Of Honey (hint: Boogie Oogie Oogie) or Star Land Vocal Band (hint: Afternoon Delight)?

  • Man at work !! what a great band!! I really wish they come back with a World Tour!! I think this 80s music was the best!!

  • Man at work Yeahhhh !!

  • This is an amazing song.

  • I miss Men at work they were a great band!!!!!!!

  • well this is proof that four people are retarded

  • the only Men at wok tune I like..great tune...

  • WOW, this is an amazing find! Colin Hay referenced this in their Grammy acceptance speech. It made no sense until now.

  • The underdog will eventualy survive!

  • I was born in 1985, missed them when they were together but damn what an awesome band. What I wouldn't do to get a Men at Work reunion.

  • classssssssssssssssssssssssicccccccccccccccccccccccccc

  • Outstanding 80's forgotten track! Sounds great on vinyl!!

  • Hit #12 rock, #28 pop in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in Australia? God bless!

  • @DaveWollenberg not as well as many other Aussie songs were doing at the time, in oz.

  • When I listen to the very beginning of this video, I could've sworn that Colin fakes a Southern Accent. Usually, people that say "Hi, y'all", are usually from states like Louisiana and Tennessee. And, I love it when he would say, "We've even got Men At Work!" Then his bandmates say, "All Riiiiiight! Woo hoo! Wow!" By the way, is "Countdown Across Australia" sort of like Casey Kasem's countdowns?

  • @MsAussie83 Yes, the used car salesman bit that Colin did was a Southern US Accent. He did it pretty well, for a polished Southerner that is talking to a generic American audience. I certainly couldn't tell he was an Aussie. A real Southerner is probably going to talk with more twang and/or drawl, especially in the Deep South (not Texas, OK, Florida, or Virginia, maybe not Ky & NC).

  • @Baritone45 Colin Hay doesn't speak with an Aussie accent. He speaks with a Scottish accent; which may also give reason as to why you couldn't pick up an Aussie accent nor tell he is Aussie.

  • @nzoz1982 Oh really? I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I was speaking of his acting as a Southerner. I actually thought he did usually sing with an Aussie accent, but I can believe it's Scottish. I'm not very good about telling the various Anglophone accents outside of American, Canadian and Southern American (I am fairly good at identifying individual Southern states.). In fact I thought I could separate Aussie and Scottish from English better than the others. Oh well.

  • @nzoz1982 It looked like a send up of the old Cal Worthington auto dealership commercials that ran in California back then.

  • @thillwl it most likely was... and would have got over most aussies heads (seeing as the intro was especially made for 'Countdown').

  • @thillwl

Yeah, no shit. Cal Worthington Ford! Los Angeles channel KTLA (or KTTV, I can't remember) after midnight! In fact, they probably were in L.A.. Notice the vehicles.

  • @Baritone45 as a native of charlotte, i'd say you got that pretty much spot on correct... thanks a lot.

  • Ahhh... music is not what it used to be. I saw this on the first video juke box in Germany. Everbody thought it was the greatest song and way of seeing video and artists. The good times are gone.

  • Looking through those clips, you can tell straight away which ones were on their way to greatness.

  • Can you tell me the name of two songs that begin at the end of the men at work?

  • @pidopoco

The Church - Almost With You

Little Heroes - One Perfect Day

then there's Richard Clapton's 'The Best Years Of Our Lives' heard briefly during the announcement.

  • This song's soooo great, I can't believe it =)

I wonder why the guys of my age don't listen to this kind of music but to crap like "Rihanna" or reams of wanna-be-stars

  • the best band ....i love it....80s never died...from Chile with love...i love Australia...

  • @belgicman The 80s ROCKED, early 90s too, but now it is like the cleaning after a party

  • Fabulous vid and tune.... these guys were really on top of their game...

I know nothing lasts forever, at least musically speaking..but I would have liked to have seen Men At Work hang around a little longer than they did.. imagine what the hell else they would have come up with!!!

  • Cargo and Business as Usual are amazing albums....loving these 28 years later!

  • hi nzoz just wanted to tell you spelled jive G-I-V-E not J-I-V-E

  • ugh.. .thanx... shows that i don't always read over my own descriptions.

  • no problem

  • Yeah, nzoz, if you look at the Billboard chart history of Men at work, you'll find that Heckyll & Jive only peaked at #28 in the US. God bless!

  • Last US top 40 hit for Colin and the boys. Hit #28 in Billboard.

  • are you sure? This was before 'Over Kill', which I do believe was a larger hit, to some extent.

  • The song was recorded in 1982 and I think released as a single first in Australia then as a US single in the fall of 1983. MTV used to air this video when it meant Music TeleVision (may Music TeleVision rest in peace). Also when MTV aired the video they'd have the famed chryon:

    Men at Work

    "Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive"

    Cargo

    Columbia/CBS Records

  • one thing i can confirm... it was released in Australia in 1982.

  • Classic tune. Great song to open a great album out of Men at Work's Cargo. This song is still great and this video is still hilarious 27 years on. It's a damn shame that videos and music went to shit in the last decade. I remember when Cargo came out, I was just 7 years old at the time. This, Pink Floyd's The Final Cut, Def Leppard's Pyromania and Bryan Adams' Cuts Like a Knife albums were my soundtrack to summer 1983 which I had all on cassette tape.

  • They don't make videos like this anymore! 80's music videos are interesting and have humour. Today's videos seem to be all about sex. Love the song especially the slow chorus which I can't stop repeating!

  • '80's videos were all about sex, too-did you forget all of the sexually charged video by most of the heavy metal stars of the day, or Madonna's videos that were the same?

  • @benwj03

They just plain don't make music like this anymore... sad, we may be the last generation to realize this...

  • @benwj03 I agree. Watching videos back then was fun. Little simple funny videos. I also dislike todays videos because you can never even get a clear look at anything. The editing style is "jump cut every second....literally.

  • @chumbersdee Yeah, I agree. Sometimes they've even put together a nice set and they keep jumping so you can't look at the costumes, etc. after all that work.

  • Amazing song. Funny video. Men At Work rules. KICKS S. Congratulations from Brazil.

  • @DustyBack2Rock cheerio!! i love men at work...they have been my favorite since 1982...

  • I love the change of pace as the song leads into the chorus.... makes this song great!

  • Best Ever!

  • I'm surprised someone hasn't made a homemade video of this song, with scenes from the original "The Nutty Professor".

---OR,better still, scenes from the rarely-seen Oliver Reed film "Dr. Heckyll And Mr. Hype".

  • I loved this song as a kid but now...not as much. Although I love Men at Work and Colin Hay. I do love the intro, where is that from? I also love the chorus...maybe I still love this song, who knows????

  • i thought his name is colin haigh ?

  • Hahahahahahhahahahahahaha

  • I like the big harmonica in the beginning lol.

  • reminds me of the good times

  • great 80's tune.....

  • He loves the world......except for all the people!

    Classic!

  • Maybe the best song of Men At Work?

  • Tough one. Hard Luck Story,It's A Mistake and Maria are all contenders. A four way tie perhaps?

  • It is right what you say, are the best that gave Australia

  • great song...

  • to me this is their best song! brilliant!

  • Lindos,simplismente lindos os clipes deles,princinalmente Overkill e Down Under :D

Gosto demais de vocês,pena que chegou ao fim :(

  • I love when Aussies make fun of Americans.

  • Excellent 80's song, and this video is awesomely weird.

  • Awesome. ^_^

  • next to overkill one of thier best.

  • One of the best track from the 1983 Cargo album

  • Love the way the music swings men at work all the way

  • I'm Dr. Heckyll & Mr Jive

  • Cargo was almost as good as the first one. Good times the 80s.

  • Dude whats wrong with just Dr. Heckell & Mr. Jive?

  • lolol

Um dos meus clipes favoritos do Men at Work.

  • What other songs followed after this?

  • I love this song and remember this video. I wish MTV still showed videos...

  • Amazing, fabulous, fantastic,

    extraordinary

I love this song and this video

  • lol at 2:28 his glasses flew off

  • thanks

  • like the 80's. back in the days that mtv's got stories to tell. nice song. thanks for posting

  • wow 1982. man i remeber when this was a new video!!!

  • Okay... I'll try my best to identify the problems I have noticed with this video that I have not noticed in any of my previous uploads.

At 0:32 we see a shot of a house and as the camera moves away from the house to focus on the man playing the large harmonica, pay close attention to how the picture appears to be shakey - even a little jumpy. There is no smooth moving motion from house to musician. The picture looks a little shakey. I do not notice this problem on the force I got this from.

  • *I do not notice this problem on the source I got this video clip from*

Even the beginning of the actual video clip (after the initial Countdown introduction) where Colin Hay is walking down the street, appears to flow in a frame by frame motion - much like a cartoon in slow motion.

  • 0:39 is another great example: Just look at the motion of the video. I swear, I see a frame by frame motion.

5:41 also has what I see as an obvious fault. At this time, there is a sample of Little Heroes' 'One Perfect Day', but have a look at the scene where the man stacks two cards on top of a House-Of-Cards model! It appears to be in slow motion. It's weird and very annoying.

I don't believe it has anything to do with the surplus samples I have added to this video.

  • I have noticed the same problem on my latest upload on nzoz1977 (Little River Band's 'Home On A Monday' video clip). The picture seems to be going by a frame by frame motion which I have never encountered in my previous uploads.

If anybody has an answer to the problem or can identify this problem, please let me know. It's driving me crazy and making me hesitant to put more stuff up.

  • It looks good to me. Way better quality on here than the VH1 clip back in 1995.

  • why is the motion of this video really bad? It's like a frame by frame movement.

  • Seems fine to me. Great vid! =^[.]^=

  • Really? Th reason why I ask is because I found the same thing with my last upload of Little River Band's 'Home On A Monday' vide on my nzoz1977 account. The motion of the video didn't flow - seemed to look more like a frame by frame look. The video samples at the end of this video are even worse!

No other videos seem to be doing this except the last year I uploaded.

  • I've noticed that YT is simply buggy as hell, lately. I watch a LOT of vids, and there are frequent comments of vids being unwatchable at all, even though I can watch them when I bring them up. Or, I attempt to watch a vid in my subscriptions queue, and get a "This video is no longer available" message, even though it is there when I try later. Often, of late, when I am watching a vid which has completed loading, it simply STOPS, and I have to refresh and watch from the start, again. ='[.]'=

  • that's probably it then... thank you!

  • it looks just fine nzoz, it is like he said 'buggy'.....tending more towards AFU especially with all WMG shit being taken off.

  • thanks Phil... I was just wondering if it is the same as my previous upload 'Be Good Johnny'.

  • Nice! This song is AWESOME!
