  • This movie was really amazing. The fact that the sisters were suicidal exhibitionist really makes the plot darker than it seems, and you can see why their neighbors(the boys) were fascinated with not only their beauty and grace, but their thoughts and antics. Truly a modern classic, and a wonderful adapt from the novel.

  • the second song starting at around 1:10 is Fatboy Slim - Right here Right now

  • You see I have no time to read books any more because the amount of Internet reading is too much. If I can remember a film it was probably having something to do with its quality being above average. The Virgin Mary has hope 4 you too! ;-)

  • Ugh....this movie was a mess....this is my opinion but the movie was dumb.....

  • It certainly was memorable and well-made but the word that comes to mind for the narrative is not "good"—I'd rather say, "disturbing". I would have liked Sofia to go into more detail about how the girls got so emotionally disturbed. It was implied this was somehow due to their Baptist(?) upbringing but we never get to go enough into the reasons why in my mind.

  • @laughlane Actually, they're Catholic in the novel, not that being Catholic or religious makes people suicidal! Hey, I'm a hardcore Marian Catholic and rather cynical yet I don't want to commit suicide! I have hope in the Virgin Mary :-).

  • @philipmarie1854 lol virgin mary.

  • Great Movie ! a modern classic ! It was clear that Kirsten Dunst was destined to became a great actress ! It wasn´t a surprise to me when she won the 2011 Cannes Golden Palm for best actress for Von Trier´s Melancholia. And Sofia Coppola is really a very talented director.

  • @Paradox586 the girls wanted theboys to see them dead because they knew that the boys had been spying on them and were curious about there secret lives. they wanted to make the boys regret trying to weasel there way into there lives, and because the girls were obiously messed up they thougt letting the boys see them dead was the best way to do it.

  • Sweet Kirsten Dunst, Parker lucky guy take her from her father

  • This was a good movie and it was captured very well, yet it was incredibly saddening when the girls died, . . . just as the boys came. 2 Questions 1) why did the girls let the boys suffer seeing them dead and 2) why did the family think secluding the girls from everything and everyone they loved, thinking it would help them recover?

  • @Paradox586

Some people might not have seen the movie yet and you're pretty much giving the ending away.

  • Obviously MosheLaw you have never read the book or have never learned literary criticism in your life.

  • best movie ever. all of it it so mysterious and creepy, and the girls just seem to be a couple steps ahead of everybody throughout.

  • never seen this movie an realy want 2 watch soooo if u have it can u pls pls pls upload it 4 us thank you :) xxx

  • what is song at 1:16 ??

  • The girls ended thier lifes for 3 obvious reasons. #1 The little sisters death. #2 Thier parents were religous freaks who were waaaaaaaay to over-protective & #3 It seemed like nobody cared when Cecilla died. Everyone went about their normal everyday lives other than the boys. Who I believed truly cared for them. But they were too emotionally damaged to see it. I think Lux deeply loved trip & him fucking her & ditching her On Prom night shattered her. & was the breaking point for all 4 sisters!

  • @RockMegaBarbie i also think they were a bit delusional and thought that if they killed themselves something......like amazing would happen. Im not good at explaining, but maybe they thought they would transcend to heaven like the virgin mary. They were always carrying around those mary cards and they gave them (or 1. cant remember) to the boys and also cecilia was holding one in the bath tub. I think they romanticised death, and it was part of their whole fantasy (other wordly) kind of thinking

  • @missyxxmischa Yes. very true. I agree. Also I DEEPLY BELIEVE if one sister was sad or hurt about something, all the sisters felt the pain with her. They were just too codependent on eachother. If one died. All had to go too.

  • @RockMegaBarbie ooer i never thought about how codependent they were on each other. Thats really interesting. Never realised how true thatwas in the movie until you said it.

  • @missyxxmischa Yea. Basically they couldn't go on or live healthy without on another. They all were already a bit off. The suicide of the younger sister lead to a downward spiral of self loathing & melancholia.

  • what is the name of the song playing at the end of the trailer?

  • @sszlucky056 right here right now by Fatboy slim is the song at the end of the trailer

  • where is hayden? i dont see him..

  • @Ashley101VideoBlogs he plays Joe Hill Conley, one of the boys who takes Bonnie to homecoming. He says he'll call her back, but he never does. He isn't part of the main group of boys who narrate the film.

  • Pleaase someone gives em the title of thz first song and the second

  • @smileybaby14 what's the movie about ?

  • If you haven't read the book you're missing out!!!

  • stone fox.

  • totally didn't know hayden christensen was in this movie

  • i wont lie, i didnt understand this movie.

  • "three girls put their own lives in jeapordy" a clip taken from the scene where they protect Cecilia's tree, "they'll all be gone by next year" referring to the trees. The trees are the perfect metaphor "none of this would have happened if the ships hadn't brought the fungus" Cecilia's death was the fungus that spread to the other girls and ended up killing them.

  • To be honest, it looks like a stupid movie. Hopefully they die in the end and do the the world's gene pool, a favour.

  • was this like an 80s movie?

  • @CamAngel96 no it came out in 1999! :)

  • I wish I knew the song they used around 1:45. I love it.

  • can someone tell me the name of the song that starts at 1:14 pleasee

  • @MegsGrant Fatboy Slim- Right Here Right Now

  • The book is better.

  • Beautifully Tragic.

  • Get over yourself. My comment wasn't THAT bad. Sophia really is a little priviledged crap. Written AND directed by... Phuleeze...AND she is only 14 and a half or so... AND I've never raped and pillaged. You're probably offended by the swipe at Italians of which I am one so... AND I don't think Sopia would be offended by the dead pussy comment as in the film as I recall there is a reference to smelly pussy, so really now blue guitar dude.

  • Fucking awesome film

  • This movie was great. I couldn't eliminate the memorys about this movies for a few days. and Kirsten was so attractive actually.

  • If you liked the movie, you'll love the book. Seriously, it's fantastic.

And no they didn't kill themselves because their parents locked them up. They killed themselves because they couldn't stand to live in a world with so many increasing flaws.

  • oh man, i really want to see this now. my friend saw the movie and is currently reading the book. she recommend i watch the trailer to see if id be interested. it looks like a good movie.

  • Thats what you get for being a fucking stupid spoiled bitch..

  • @EnergyDog23 Uh wrong, try actually watching the movie or...gasp....reading the book.

  • @EnergyDog23 dude thats not even right wat u said! i know for people who comitted suicide and if i had herd u say this i would have beat u untill u were bloody! dude thats not even funny cool or even a smart comment< u just made ureself look like a stupid spioled bitch! suicide is no fucking joke ENERGY DOG23 yeah DOG! U fuckin prick its actually a chemical in your brian that causes depression and suicidle thoughts its no bullshut so shut ure fucking mouth! u self ritchuss egotistic ass hole!

  • I love this movie so much. One of my favorites of all time.

  • i didn't understand this movie

  • omg wat da hell! this movie is serioulsy mind fuck its so sad =[

  • i love this movie soo much <3333333333333

  • maybe someone could recommend films like this? :)

  • Love the song 'Your my playground love'. from this movie

  • I want to see this...I read the book

  • Good film

  • I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT'S GOING ON!?

  • Danny Devito?! SOOO WATCHING THIS

  • I understand why some people might not like this, it does not provide any answers and the audience is left wondering. But as an audience we're only allowed glimpses of the lives of the girls and we only see it through the neighbourhood boys and flashbacks of present day story telling. Suicide is endless and sometimes when it happens, people don't get explanations as to the "why it happened". We're only left wondering and as the boys put it; putting together random pieces of the puzzle.

  • Right Here Right Now by Fatboy Slim

  • why can i only find this movie in french?

  • the music in the second half of this trailer seems like it's conveying it as a suspense movie, or action. that's not what sofia was going for at all. this film is a gorgeous piece of human emotion.

  • what is the music at the end?

  • @MegsGrant Right here Right now by moby

  • @luvspencersjersey thankssssss :))

  • im still reading this and cant wait to finish so i can watch the movie

  • What the frick is this even about?

  • @annierism 5 teenage sisters who all kill themselves and the bros that want to bone them

  • I really want to say that I liked this movie, but I didn't get it, at all.

  • @raulsmadrid Which is exactly why it would never appeal to mainstream audiences. They can't understand it even though it isn't difficult to grasp it at all.

  • @ilovetati91 well could you try to explain it to me, I am really trying to consider my self "not mainstream audience" but this kind of ruins it.

  • 1:20 whats the song called

  • @killfromgrave Right Here Right Now By Fat Boy Slim

  • what is the last song thats played?

  • @jvcdvc60 Right Here, Right Now by Fatboy Slim

  • Excuse me, WRITTEN BY Sofia Coppola? That's just scandalous to allow a credit like that with no mention of the novel by Jeffrey Eugenides. That's simply wrong.

  • @joyegreg The script was written by Sofia....that's what "written by" means in the film industry.

  • @ilovetati91 It should be "adapted by."

  • Dead pussy is still dead pussy. I don't care how you dress it up. Sophia is a sucker punch...all toppings with no meat. No pun intended, kiddies. The worst example of what the Italian race have to offer. Form w/no content.

  • @StevenCarinci Your comment is a disgusting disgrace. I cannot wait until the Creator rectifies the corruption that sin imposed upon humankind resulting in dross such as yourself. Sadly, there are many filthy-minded and foul-mouthed monsters who spew their perverted mentality on YouTube. You may or may not be aware of how mysogynic and creepy your comment is. You'd probably be a sadistic Nazi, given the chance, just to have the power and freedom to rape and pillage. Do the world a favor: Exit.

  • omg i love this movie!

  • man I did suck being a 13 year girl....thank god I am way past that...

  • the trailer is better than the actual movie

  • incredible film. So heartaching.

  • so... what's it about?

  • @kamile257 No one knows why that's the point of the story.

  • whats the song you hearing from 1:43 ??? please help me!!

  • @rockim92 Fat Boy Slim-Right Here Right Now

  • SPOILERS - The movie was beautiful, but I don't see the girl's reasoning behind communicating with the boys and choosing to kill themselves that night.

  • but the best stories have no motive

and linnger on , fascinating you, you always wonder about them

    those are the best stoires

  • @hippychicka I agree completely. But this movie doesn't do it for me. I'm not sure why. I might need to watch it again and figure out why I don't like it. Watch Elephant.

  • you should read the book. much better and

    for sure dude

  • whats the song?

  • @liersz The first song is Playground Love by Air the second song is Right Here, Right Now by FatboySlim

  • song?

  • the trailer looks awesome so i bought the DVD, only I've been put off watching it because I loved the book so much.... Gonna watch it tonight though - hope it goes well! :)

  • The end of this trailer is pretty misleading as to what the actual movie is like.

  • i want to know the song in the final part .

  • @Flyonleaf

    its by fat boy slim.

i think its called "Right here, right now"

  • "They'll all be gone by next year..."

  • @GayGeisha That's a refrence to the Elm trees not the girls that quote was misleading

  • beautiful music by AIR

  • that movie sucked so fucking bad.

  • the book is good too, i agree with the comment written here about parents not controlling their kids and letting them learn for themselves and experience life, im 22 now but my dad was like that all throughout my teens and i still resent him for the strict restrictions he put on me and my sisters, probably why im quite a free spirit now in regards to sex and life in general...

  • that movie is amazing, you can feel their slavery watching it.

  • and no, of course, it never gets to be that simple. For many of us, life and all its relatationships tend to get in the way of that. :)

  • I have never seen this movie. I want to know more about actual virgin suicides that have been documented. The definition I've read, thus far, is that a virgin suicide only occurs when the person wants to kill themself without any reason other than curiousity and the need to know, not that they are depressed or overwhelmed. Just a simple intellectual curiosity that cannot be satiated without the actual experience.

  • Is this a true story?

  • @TheMisteriousA No it's a fiction debut novel by Jeffrey Euginides.

  • okay.. i fkken wanna watch this!

  • Such a magic movie.

  • i saw the movie and read the book. both is amazing. new favorites ;)

  • @Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum : Is the book any good? I heard the movie outshines the novel.. Let me know because I was contemplating buying it.

  • Comment removed

  • I saw The Virgin Suicides - it's great film with very good actors and actress, amazing story, lovely and wonderful pictures and music..''Just like life''..i love films with a great story..like this :)

  • @ThaBauce what does justin bieber have to do with anything?

  • I haven't seen the film, but loved the book. Sofia Coppolla is a wonderful director, Lost in Translation is one of the best movies I have ever seen. But, I'm not liking the look of this. I'm sure this is just a badly put together trailer, and that the actual movie is good.

  • What in the hell? I have a high tolerance and understanding of object'd art, and I can't even fathom this.

  • very good film and....

    she is soooooo cute XD

  • What's the song that starts at 01:15 ?

  • @ilovecharmedXx Right here, Right now - Fatboy Slim

  • weird.

I have no idea what this movie is about, even looking at the trailer.

    A virgin commits suicide?

  • @leafclash

It's about four sisters, or maybe it's five... who all commit suicide. The little sister does it first, and then a few weeks or months later the others follow. It's weird, but I thought it was a very good film. Kind of scary.

  • song at 0:55?

  • @XxBarbyChanxX sounds like one of the songs Air composed for this movie

  • @XxBarbyChanxX Air - The word "hurricane"

  • @MPCephei thanks!

  • IF anyone is interesting in the song that sound in this video is ''Right Here, RIght Now'' by Fatboy Slim. ^^

  • how can i watch this does anyone know on the net? please reply!

  • GREAT!!MASTERPIECE :)

  • @kamile257 they commited suicide because their parents were to strict on them. They locked them up in the house. Wouldn't let them talk on the phone..they had to sneak and talk on the phone. They wouldn't let them date, hang out with friends...eventually they took them out of school to isolate them from the rest of the world. They did let them have freedom after the first sister killed herself, but when the Kirsten had sex with that guy..they locked them in the house for good. Sad movie!!!

  • Her boyfriend left her after sex

  • just watching that trailer gave me goosebumps. i have to see this movie.

  • This film is soo soo amazing!

    i love it
