I first discovered this song on a silly compilation called "Music For Vampires". It was a hidden track. I apologise to any Bauhaus fans out there, but the song made me laugh my balls off. I found the lyrics overly dramatic and whiny and Peter Murphy's vocals were perhaps the worst he'd ever recorded. He sounds drunk. Bauhaus has some great music, but this one is self-pitying proto-Emo Goth cheese.
jest coś takiego w tym utworze,coś co sprawia że chcę odejść.coś co powoduje u mnie pragnienie śmierci.jest piękny i smutny.to dzieło.i wokal i pianino i tekst.wszystko to sprawia że mam ochotę odejść
This takes me back a quarter of a century to my time with my first girlfriend - forever snowy,cold,happy,bitter-sweet and the promise of eternal happiness! - thank you x
This is such a wonderful song; it was on the B-side of the 12" single of Telegram Sam with another great song called Rosegarden funeral of sores;p Bauhaus fans will of course be familiar with it.
This was the first song I had ever heard with a "swear word" in it. I had a friend back in high school who was big time into Bauhaus and I remember hearing this song for the first time back in the late 80s and I was like, "Dude, did he just say shit." Man, the innocence of those days.
"That is another of your odd notions," said the Prefect, who had the fashion of calling everything 'odd' that was beyond his comprehension, and thus lived amid an absolute legion of 'oddities'
i'm just wondering, don'tr get pissed or anything, but what genre is this? people say it's goth some others say darkwave and some say punk..what is it?
@lalamouse77 The lead singer is considered the god-father of goth music. Goth isn't really a stereotype when it comes to music if that is why you though he would get pissed. Goth is just the music, and people who listen to it are "goths". Stereotypes is when you see someone who appears goth and doesn't listen to goth music. Then their just posers to us.
None of those. It pre-dates Goth and certainly darkwave though both labels have been applied after the fact. Really Goth didn't exist really until Bands like Fields of the Nephilm. Some describe it as Art House punk but I think that is an oxymoron. It is certainly post-punk. It is a period that is difficult to categorize with labels. Their contemporaries of stature were Magazine and Joy Division who also fail to be nailed down. I just like to think of it as experimental alternative

@lalamouse77 bauhaus are a goth rock, post punk band, but stylistically this cannot really be classified as goth rock. When i first heard this (ipod was on shuffle) I thought i knew the voice but couldn't quite guess who were the artist(s).
I was pleasantly surprised when i saw bauhaus.
Just like when you heard helter skelter by the beatles for the first time!
@danzig5 You are so so right in that comment - those who are drawn to this song aren't here for music as we immediately scan the comment'sand are transported to a time free of the crassness of the internet, electronic communications and the viral nature of this age- here is to all those who speak the spirit of crowds - much love x
@danzig5 you know how describe this, its amazing we are sync. If I will must to take some humans to start a new evolution of course you and Peter Murphy will be included
It came to mind when I was listening to Sugar by She Wants Revenge...
Both great bands, but I'm here in order to praise Bauhaus who are much bigger band in terms of reign and influence on others, and timeless also. They make timeless music!
My funeral song will be hollow hills. if i had this played at my funeral my parents would understand the irony. My mam would weep every time she heard this and tell me to turn if off. my dad well 20,000 miles a way and still that ain`t far enough.
I would give this four stars. I like it. If anyone gives you shit, you can tell them you at least have enough balls to experiment, unlike some people.
True art, sadly lacking in music these days. Anyone that feels this is a funny song or overly dramatic doesn't know art. You're forgiven.
