Can someone answer me something. Is resident evil 3 set before Resident Evil 2? I can't remember. The reason I ask is at 8:40 in this video when Clair goes down them steps outside of the police station there is a zombie who is wearing a yellow vest and green pants. This looks a lot like the guy who was killed by Nemesis when you first get to the police station in RE3. So am guessing RE3 is set before RE2?
@ocelot20 The guy killed was Brad Vickers, the same dude who piloted the Helicopter in RE1... and left the STARS team to fend for themselves at the Spencer Mansion. =/
Resident Evil 2 occurs in the middle of RE3, specifically a day after Jill is infected with a virus at the Clock Tower after fighting Nemesis, and two days before she awakens after Carlos administers the vaccine to her. I hope that makes sense.
@KeijiDragon Thanks after watching this video I dug out my old Resident Evil 3 Psone disk and started to play it on my PS3. That is when I noticed Zombie brad and came back here to ask.
N64 = characters are more blocky (less polygons), parts of the backgrounds were cut to make them smaller in size (to fit in the cartridge, example...Kendo shop cutscene, near the door the background was cut in like 30%), colors look washed out (because they dropped the quality of the images), sound isnt very clear, FMVs are very compressed,
PS1 = models are pixelate
DC = colors are too bright, makes the background looks very strange, backgrounds also compressed to fit GD
@chinesinha Actually characters are LESS blocky in the N64 version because of AA, and some backgrounds are hi-res because of expansion pak support (added RAM). FMVs are obviously washed out but the same can't be said of actual gameplay.
@boxing2289nymx A/V cables (the ones with white, red, and yellow)? Try eBay. Easy to find and use since the SNES, N64, and GameCube consoles use them.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new album 'Unhinged' which is inspired by great games such as the Resident Evil series. You can stream or download the full album for free on my youtube channel!
@Kdarkov It's optional. But, off the top of my head as I type this, I frankly don't know the precise noticeable benefits the E-Pak gives to the game aside from the increased resolution.
@gamerboylover I think it's "uncompressing" time rather than "loading" time in this instance. The game is 6 to 7 times smaller in file size on N64 than on PS1 after all (try compressing a 2CD game into a 64 MB cartridge without any loss in quality... the N64 is a true achievement given the size constraints of the cartridge format).
Also... the music uses higher sample rate sound on N64 than on PS1... go figure.
@Kafei2006 The original PS1 version of Resident Evil 2 had a lot of redundant data used in the two discs. The easy thing that Angel Studios did to bring RE2 to the N64 was to remove all the duplicate music, background, FMV files and re-chain all the essential data together to run on a single medium. The conversion is still impressive, giving the extra features added to this port, but it is definitely possible that Resident Evil 2 could still run and be played efficiently as a one-disc PS1 game.
@gamerboylover if you start thinking that 2cd's, which are like around 1.3GB, PSX original game, are reduced to 64mb, the N64 cartridge, to me this is a great invention ever, seen, the N64 is better, graphically, the videos that matter, if not the gameplay
@SilvaTone2203 If you favor the exclusive stuff like the item randomizer, violence adjuster, instant loading times, costumes, controller options, go right ahead. Be sure not to spend more than $10 on it though. Any more than that is a rip-off.
If you want to experience RE2 for the first time ever, however, I suggest seeking out the PSone, Sega Dreamcast, or Gamecube versions. Since they feature much better quality in music and FMVs, you'll get a better presentation that way.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new electronic album “Sub-Zero” which is heavily influenced by the world of Resident Evil and the music of Masami Ueda and other RE composers. If you're interested you can listen to the full album on my youtube channel, as well as download the album for free!
@MangakaBladi N64 has better graphics and sound than PS1, PS1 is 32 bit N64 is, as you might have noticed, 64 bit. STFU u don't know anything 'bout hardware and games obiously.
@Elijahsfat3 Lots of compression on the videos and voice files. Oh, and the game isn't that big, it's just two PlayStation CDs worth of redundant data in a 64MB cartridge. The keyword is redundant. The two discs released on PS1, mostly just have extraneous data of each other, except for the different voice data, some different FMVs, and that's what I remember. The point is that, it was probably made easier to bring to N64, partly by just deleting the duplicate stuff.
@Elijahsfat3 It was most likely for marketing back when this game was released. Multi-disc CD games were once all the rage back in the late 90's, especially if the platform was PlayStation. There's actually a good discussion about this particular subject at The Horror Is Alive forums under the topic name "Resident Evil 2 - Nintendo 64 version" that I made last year. Pretty informative, too. Check it out.
@ARIETGXXX You don't seem to know "Shadow Man" and "Conker's Bad Fur Day" then. "Shadowman" even has professional german dub. I didn't know N64 can handle videos like this.
