  • I'm a big George Shearing fan ... having collected his albums at flea markets, thrift stores, and garage sales.

  • @motorbiker63 Thanks for your comments and for viewing.

  • That is wonderful. Mr Shearing did a wonderful arrangement. I remember seeing him for years as a child and teen at Mondavi and Paul Masson jazz concerts.

  • Thanks for viewing and your kind comments.

  • I love Shearing's arrangement of Amazing Grace. The harmonies towards the end are just extravagant. Thank you for your interpretation. This small collection of American hymn tunes by Shearing is "amazing" and well worth the effort.

  • Certainly agree.

Greetings to you in MI from NJ.

  • i did not know that george shearing wrote that arrangement

  • Yes. Thanks for v iewing.

  • Nice but the background chord patch could have been louder behind your nice right hand solo. Great job!

  • Thanks for your comments and for viewing.

  • A wonderful interpretation of the piece - I especially enjoyed listening to the last 2 verses, where the accompaniment was taking the melody to new places - the chords and progressions were exquisite!

  • Thank you for viewing and your kind comments. Of course we have the genius of George Shearing to thank for this wonderful setting.

Greetings to you in the UK from NJ, USA.

  • This is an excellent interpretation of this piece. What solo stop are you using at the beginning?

  • Thank you.

    Great I - 8' Trompette and 8' Rohr Flöte.

  • After having play this piece 150+ times,

I like your take on the piece.

I must say I have never heard a zymbelstern used in the third " movement" of the piece.

  • The use of the zimbelstern for one of the variations was solely my choice for the sake of variety. Thanks for viewing and your comments.

  • good idea on your part

    bravo

  • Frederick Swan performs Amazing Grace on an organ in Hawaii that segways into, "O God, our help in ages past". It has a bagpipe stop. I figure it also has a midi controller as its the only way I can think that he would be able to pull off the key combination in the end. I know there are keyboard couplers but he presses a cord on one keyboard and in rapid succession it actives 4 more cords of different voices at 1/2 steps each. He does the same thing in L.A. but slower. Probably no midi.

  • this is the best version of amazing grace that i have seen in youtube

  • Thank you for your kind comments and for viewing.

  • I enjoyed your approach to this arrangement. I believe it was in 1992 at the AGO convention in Atlanta that I heard Organist, David Higgs perform There Is a Happy Land and Amazing Grace by George Shearing. I purchased the book(to my knowledge only 1 book of Shearing's organ arrgs)and have learned several but the Amazing Grace is probably my favorite. Great playing!

  • Thanks for viewing and your comments.

  • thanks for sharing your beautiful gift and one of my favorite songs which has always given me strength and hope...

  • WHAT THIS LEFT SIDE BUTTON FOR?

  • The white somewhat oval button on the left console cheek is the Zimbelstern on/off control.

  • Beautiful! Where can I get a copy of the music for this? I'm an organist at Friedens United Church of Christ in Sumneytown, PA and a jazz pianist and Shearing is one of my all-time favorites. I had no idea he did this lovely setting of Amazing Grace. You did a marvelous job on it and I've enjoyed some of your other videos with the timpanist.
