More from Oliver Mtukudzi...you may recognize this if you are a Bonnie Raitt fan. She is a big fan of Olivers and asked if she could cover it. its on one of her albums.. But you can't beat Oliver! One of the few songs that he sings in english. Sam the drummer is a cousin of my good friend Ian.
Thanks dubmomonga. It is wonderful to see and hear this great Zim icon live. Most of the the videos of his music posted on YouTube show only his pictures. I couldn't help joining in the singing and dancing. So infectious. So joyous. Although he is calling for help from Mwari he is not crying and wailing in his pleas but dancing and happy. A man infused with hope and optimism even when he is "feeling low". When we are down and low we should never abandon hope! Great lesson.
Hey Gimmo! what's up? I was there- AND- I have the DVD- At the beginning of the song BEFORE- the music He says- the song was re-done by her- MY bad- I just listened to the DVD- I THOUGHT -he said it was written- sounded similair-YOU ARE RIGHT!
Oliver and the boys were a blessing that morning...... He rid the forest of negativity-someone wrote in the bathroom stalls derrogative statements regarding our musical guests' to go home -leave Humboldt.....It was disgraceful to even see it. This was a very special moment during this performance... the song was written by Bonnie Raitte.
@SIDEWINDERable Bonnie Raitte what??? for your own information Oliver Mtukudzi is the one who composed this song. Bonnie sang it in (2002) after, by then oliver had already recorded this song in (1994) she even used the same style (beat).
@SIDEWINDERable Mtukudzi never lost track of his Christian roots. His early albums always included at least one gospel number. His uplifting 1994 prayer song ‘Hear Me Lord’ is a classic, later covered by Bonnie Raitt.
Beautiful music, love it.... but did anyone else notice the dancing Ewok at 4:27 ? Made my day.
