  • God this lady is dumb!

  • this kind of technical skill actually translates into listenable music. alot of other people who do solos and shit you cant listen to it like seriously. this has a classical element to it which is nice

  • Tom's reaction when she calls him a DJ is priceless..

  • @thatsperverse haha i know right? live PA acts HAAATE being called DJ's

  • its funny, they didn't show a single thing this man was capably of creating...wasn't this around the same time as ultra visitor...wtf BBC..

  • Thank you so much for this upload

  • Sure, there are better interviewers out there... There are plenty who are worse though... Not sure why you all are giving her so much flak.

I find it interesting that Thom Yorke is into Squarepusher. Oh what a wonderful world.

  • The interviewer's a naive idiot. I'm just glad Squarepusher, Thom Yorke, and Andre 3000 were there to keep it awesome!

  • SQUAREPUSHER AND ANDRE 3000!!!! IT MUST HAPPEN!!!!

  • Imagine Squarepusher on bass, Benn Jordan on guitar & Morgan ågren on drums.

  • @Kafe420

    genius

  • 3:33 DDDAAAAMN! So right! "who says what a bass guitar is used for..." Great way to say it!

  • when she was on about how he plays the bass... fuck me what a noob that bitch is.

  • she wants him to finger her so much

  • @BlessureK Mhmmmmm hahahah

  • This bitch interviewing him (just kidding ;-)) is fucking brilliant. She is natural, she is intelligent, she asks all the right question - Tom is responding because she is engaging him appropriately. I think she is great. Top woman.

  • Why did they let that pub burned ignorant knacker interview him.

  • "if you gave it to a monkey" ... LOL

  • he should mention aphex twin aswell next time

  • That blonde woman looks like a genius, was it Lauren Laverne?

  • Shes such an annoying cunt

  • @saysaysaywhatyousay Yeah, she is. But she's cute as a button!

  • hooray for england

  • yes, this girl is blonde.

  • She is abusing the word DJ'ing.... No wait, she is abusing the word Squarepusher by calling him a DJ!

  • wonder what would happen if les claypool picked up a drum machine instead of turning into a Crustie ..

  • Tom Jenkinson's fingers could snap a grown man's neck

    keep up the good work

  • @cocks308 Yes, but he would struggle to snap a young man's neck.

  • she looks like shiiiiiiit!!!eye balls are about to fall off

  • Wholy shit, Andre 3000.

  • lauren laverne - hugely annoying, massive, massive cunt.

  • andre 3000 ain't good enough for squarepusher

  • @oosthakker ill be nice about this an jus say.....why cuz hes a rapper

  • Andre 3000 and Squarepusher, what happened to that idea?

  • @bstmanversusskeletor he realised it was a hideous idea immediately and pretended otherwise because he was under the spotlight. then he went right ahead and forgot about it minutes later.

  • Tom seems more open than Richard (Aphex Twin) with collaboration. He's just doing music the way he wants to, since he was trained classically on his own, he's mad talented to play the bass like a guitar though. Music doesn't always have to have rules.

  • @dilps yes it does, music ALWAYS has to have rules. What you mean is music does not have to be performed conventionally. there has never been a note played by anyone, ever, that didn't have some sort of thinking behind it - in this case, previously acquired technique and a good deal of either pre-determined or spontaneous formulation - and therefore adhere to a regulatory principle of some variety, alternatively known as a RULE.

  • Work with Andre 3000!

  • Comment removed

  • wow and I just thought he was a talented electronic music producer, I was going to say IDM producer but calling it intelligent dance music is the most idiotic genre naming ever....talk about elitism.

  • Seems like a nice chap.

  • so good that his playing frightens me a little

  • this guy is awesome..

  • I have a new line-up for my "dream band". Although I'm not sure who'd be able to do vocals, I now want Fredrick Thorendahl on leads/rhythm, maybe John 5 for rhythm/leads, Squarepusher for bass (sorry Les Claypool), and Thomas Haake for drums.....I'd be lucky if my eardrums didn't erupt with joy!!!

    -Oz

  • @Ozlanthos obviously thom yorke to do the vocals,I mean not because he says something in the video but hes just so fucking amazing, almost freddy mercury but for my taste a beautifuller(?)style...THOM YORKE IS THE BEST...and radiohead of course

  • @3kekseund1loch Thom York is a talentless hack and can suck a bag of dicks.

  • @mollyjeorgensen right....

  • @mollyjeorgensen why do you find him to be talentless? and what is hackneyed about what he does?

  • @SendInTheChickens Honestly, I find all his work derivative and simplistic (i.e., simplistic without any sense of artistic 'minimalism'). Now, he's not third-order derivative (like, for example, Coldplay who bites Thom Yorke at every step), but nevertheless he's still not doing anything really creative. The more vulgar statement is strictly political; I've been pretty pissed since they started asking for handouts with "In Rainbows," as if they need or deserve more than they already have...

  • @mollyjeorgensen i'm sorry, who's asking for handouts? you lost me.

  • @SendInTheChickens I was referring to the album's "pay-what-you-want" marketing gimmick...

  • @mollyjeorgensen wanting to be paid for something you have poured your heart and soul into that intrinsically has value in both an artistic and commercial sense is asking for handouts?

  • @mollyjeorgensen thom yorke, talentless? you are obviously living in a different dimension to the rest of us...

  • I hate seeing music interviewers getting attacked on YouTube. It seems like they can never "get it right". Deadmau5 fans are the worst as they accuse anyone who interviews him of being "a know-nothing faggot" (mostly because they're so on Deadmau5's dick they get jealous that someone else is sharing a room with him). It happens a lot, although I'd have to agree on this occasion.. "A DJ"? "Strong fingers"? Do some fucking research love and ask SquarePusher some IDM-orientated questions..

  • Before 4:45 I was like "shut up useless bitch"

    After 4:45 I was like :O

  • "a dj and you play an insterument" omgfg he reacted so positively hes a nice guy i would punch her.

  • It was all downhill when he picked up the bass.

  • @djvartan the bass was the best part, much more impressive than any electronic music ive ever heard

  • @otherside65 you just like the performance better than the composition then.

  • @djvartan .....wat

  • Can anyone tell me what the track is that Tom's performing at the beginning of the video please

  • @gazp1234 Its hello miaow from Hello everthing. Check out the modern bass guitar from the same album...

  • @gazp1234 Hello Meow from Hello Everything. the first track on the album

  • i have so many questions for tom...tons better than this idiot did...

  • Lauren Laverne is a terrible interviewer. She asked Mani whilst he was sitting with Bobby Gillespie if he was gonna get the Stone Roses back together, wtf? like asking a dude sitting with his new wife if he is interested in getting back with his ex...totally retarded.

  • @vunderground1 I would love to smash her in the face with a hammer. She should fuck off back to being in shit indie bands from the 90's.

  • Yeah, sounds alright mate... sounds a bit like Goldie!

  • @eViLegion Legend!

  • Comment removed

  • do YOOU know squarepusher???

  • What the fuck did Thom Yorke say? I can't understand :(

  • @vanillOUT i quite fancied it. i don't know why. i heard you got squarepusher. i'm like, "i'm on that. You've got squarepusher, I'm going to do it too."

  • According to Drowned In Sound the collaboration is still on

  • TOMMMMMMM JJJJEEEEEENNNNKKKKIIIIINNNNSSSSSS

  • This bitch doesn't have a clue.

  • Awesome artist but LOL why did his bass solo suck so bad?

  • @SuperTechnoLaser hes basically playing classical guitar on a bass

    sooooo not easy

  • @SuperTechnoLaser how did his bass solo suck?

  • very true. squarepusher is a mad man genius. A tripped out Jaco pastorius.

  • Isn't there something very Lemmy-Esque in the way he uses the Bass? Don't know too much about it myself, maybe actual bassists could confirm this? Just something about watching the way he plays reminds me of seeing lemmy on TV explaining how they came up with the riff for Ace Of Spades.

  • Squarepusher is the fucking man. He should record with Andre 3000 lol.

  • square pusher's later music kinda sucks compared to music is one rotted note

  • i fucking chop my hands off just to have a session with Tom and Richard ~.~

  • @olive1913

that would be cool. you could hit the bass drum with your head then.

  • the girl interviewing him has got way too much make-up in her face.

anyway, it was nice listening to this...

  • I just read an article saying Andre 3000 just has contacted him. It took awhile...

  • square pusher is a hack bass player. i could kill him

  • @SessileNomad you bet right fudge pusher

  • "You play it like a guitar"

    What a fucking insult.

  • squarepusher! amazing, yet humble! not like richard d james...

  • I'd actually dig hearin Andre 3000 and squarepusher collab... what would there not be to like about that album! damn....when

I watched interview I checked right away just

to make sure I hadn't missed it somehow.

  • Screw u bumblepuss..... The guy rarely does interviews so I'm sure there's a reason he did this, pretty unprententious interview and I'd rather talk to someone that was curious and chilled than some loser trying to talk squarepusher like they're on the same cloud.

  • "You're a DJ"... "You must have really strong fingers"... How the did this clueless fuck get an interview with Tom?

  • That review had such potential, why do they always just give the job of the interviewer to idiots that are good looking and know nothing of what they are interviewing? Ahhhh.

  • @ElectronicIntervals 1:35 "Cause your a DJ"........ Cringe

  • @LucaBoulders Ahaha, it really is the only word that runs through my mind when I watch that. Well of course except for "Awe" when I look at the genius that is Squarepusher himself!

  • @ElectronicIntervals because the goal of the interviewer isn't to geek out and scare the guest. It's a TV program. They have to keep it light. Besides, I think his bass solo work at the end speaks for itself.

  • @ElectronicIntervals : she is the protagonist to which the average monkey can relate.

  • @ElectronicIntervals : she is the protagonist to which the average monkey can relate.

  • thanx tom/ (towards the micro): "no problem @ all"

  • him slappa da bass man!

  • Simply recoculous.

  • I would fucking LOVE to hear something between Andre and Squarepusher

  • @RadTheCowboy Andre can fuck off

  • Who gives a fart what Andre 3K thinks? By all means let Squarepusher reduce Outkast to smouldering rubble though, the sooner the better actually...

P.S. He moves his hands around a lot, eh?

  • andre 3000 rules even more now that he knows who squarepusher is.

  • Yes because it's much better to be a talentless hack punk rocker. 'Punk' is the most strict and rule-laden kind of music which completely goes against what it is supposed to represent. Artists like Tom Jenkins impose NO RULES on what they want to create, and that is more punk than anything with three chords and a drug problem.

  • @ninjabachelor well said man

  • @ninjabachelor - you Sir are a blessing on Youtube. Your post is dead on correct. Thank you.

  • @ninjabachelor

very true. squarepusher is a mad man genius. A tripped out Jaco pastorius.

  • @7Theistic

Squarepusher: Jaco Pastorious fighting with a drum machine whilst falling down a straircase.

  • @duckmonsterX

I'd pay to see that happen. That'd make excellent television.

  • @ninjabachelor thats exactly what i think

  • you are talking about attitude or music?

  • @ninjabachelor you are talking about music or attitude?

  • @ninjabachelor Like most generalisations, you do realise that's bollocks. Yes a lot of punk is strict and rigid, if not turgid but the same could be said most of the things that make up a genre. The gems stray far from the beaten track. Refused's Shape of Punk to Come was pretty much a send up to jazz and Ink and Dagger's Self Titled would have been the soundtrack for a psychadelic Western film if they were around in the 70's.

  • @molly0000000s And when the Refused album came out no-one bought it, because it was something different to the norm of punk, so thanks for proving my point.

  • @ninjabachelor Well its known as the hardcore album. Besides, it's irrelevent if people digged it, it is what it is. Far beyond what people expected. End of story.

  • @ninjabachelor Wow, your inability to grasp the socio and polotical contexts of a certain type of music is astounding. Have you even heard of Fugazi? Or Minor Threat? Or The Replacements? Or Sonic Youth? Fucking hell...

  • @ninjabachelor 83 thumbs up for the wrong name... TOM JENKINSON!!!

  • @ninjabachelor dude, that is not completely true - early punk was free from rules. it was only as it started to become a movement that people began to lay down the framework for what could be considered punk, and what was "selling out". and as far as squarepusher imposing no rules is concerned, he contradicts that statement in this very interview, describing himself as halfway between anarchy (the monkey) and cliché (the mainstream music industry). you don't get that good without some rules.

  • the uk blows

  • Imagine this: A Squarepusher and steve Vai/Joe Satriani collaboration... virtuosos from 2 very different genres. I'd love to see it personally.

  • whoa, they cut out the word "god" 2:18

  • @precinctful - my dad had a fight in 1964 with Jimmy Saville when he was working as a DJ in Belle Vue. And, btw, I wasn't lying... ww w.kameli.net/~raimu/electrascope/

  • I love how he makes her seem so stupid even when he dumbs down what he's saying so she can understand.

  • Its like punk never happened..... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Colin Greenwood used to be a fan of my old band and brought the rest of Radiohead to see us at the Oxford Zodiac in '98 (supporting Mansun).

  • @TelboyD My dad worked with a bloke who knew an Ice Cream Van driver who had a fight with David Bowies brother.

  • Thom Yorke's a fan of squarepusher...... seriously most of the celebritys today would KILL to have Thom Yorke as their fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lozzatolli he is a little bit chubby here but i wouldnt call him fat. its more good living

  • @eViLegion then suddenly squarepusher rapes her violently. 4 months later she is pregnant with a robot baby and dies giving birth to it. it malfunctions. back home, squarepusher hears the news , scratches his bill bailey whiskers and composes another song.

  • why are they cutting out the word god?

    Pretty pathetic..

I'd love to see him collaborate with Andre 3000 though

  • Andre 3000 compliments this squarepusher and says he wants to work and learn from him and the racist comments about Andre are that Dre would steal his music and that he can't speak English. I guess a black man can't win no matter what.

  • @gregsie74 yeah I'm writing you back from a month ago since you never replied directly to me I never saw this. I'm "on" about exactly what I said. Other posters said Dre would try to steal his music and he couldn't speak English. All the while Andre is complimenting this dude and they stil gotta say shit about him just cuz he's black.

  • woah! who made that bass?!! looks like scott french style, but it's not..

  • Comment removed

  • Squarepusher and Doria Concept should get together - now that would be a SICK live show!!!

  • like the project way more after seeing the guy behind it :)

  • Squarepusher beats Aphex Twin by a LONG shot

  • @willpreeview most Squarepusher is childish and quirky. Aphex Twin has a completely different vibe. You can really only compare their production techniques :/

  • @RuneMasterJon Squarepushers music makes you question life at a deep emotional level, his childish music as you say criticizes your own childish acceptance of 'normality'. Aphex Twin is a label you show off to your friends to be accepted. Aphex Twin is for posers. Squarepusher wins.

  • @gregsie74 you definitely lose...

  • @willpreeview Have you listened to druqks? its a gem of an album. I enjoy both artists though. I think I'd be more likely to play squarepusher if my mother was hanging around, I don't think she'd appreciate aphex's acid techno.

  • He went to my school :^)

  • i want to slap her pussy

  • Fingers of magic.

  • Man is a genius

  • Strong fingers thats what the girls like

  • She is Lauren Laverne who was the singer out of Kenicke

  • Is that Bill Bailey's younger brother??

  • man the chick interviewing is not bad!

  • show me what he be doin on dem computas over there!

  • that girls must have sucked a lot of dicks to be working on th bbc as a reporter... shes soooo damn stupid... i mean, "you have strong fingers??!!" what a fuck?!!

  • It's a joke you dolt. It's called charm, something you're obviously not familiar with.

  • She was the singer of Mint Royale and is fiiit

  • @naisindamission You have a foul mind.

  • "You are a dj"...... Omg ...

  • I don't remember this in Part Troll!

  • i remember when i first saw this interview and was in awe that Andre 3000 wanted to work with Tom. Still wicked sick.

  • probably the best living bassist in the world

  • @kaini Ehh I wouldn't agree man. As much as I love Squarepusher and appreciate his musical and technical skill, he does lack a certain something in my opinion. Still, hats off, he has to be one of the best bassists I can think of.

  • certainly the most original and inventive.

  • @kaini have u heard of stanley clarke?,victor wooten?,marcus miller?,eberhard weber?..just to nasme a few. ...as to ur statement. ...hardly!

  • typos aside.

  • This is like if you sat down with fucking Beethoven. Genius is an understatement.

  • Who would have thought a member of Outkast would have been a 'Pusher fan?
