You cannot look at him as a guitar player with a solo ability. He is just a song writer. Don't give him more credit then that. He doesn't do anything but play chords and sustain notes. There is nothing difficult about this and it doesn't require any real talent to do what he does. God you people are fucking tools.
@GhettoGinny It takes no real talent to do what he does? It takes more than talent. It's a God given gift that he can do what he does. He learned how to not over complicate things and make what's called music, instead of pointless shredding that anyone who can build muscle memory can do. The edge is a brilliant guitar player. To call him "just a songwriter" is stripping him of what he spent so many years working for. Apparently he's doing something right, his band packed out the rose bowl.
@GhettoGinny .... well it also doesnt take talent to type trhat into a keyboard, or call people tools lol even tho i agree, but he does have a pretty rare soul about it
god you nerds piss me off. EVERY video on this fucking website has people bitching at each other as if they're old married couples. seriously? get a life kids. "duhhh fuck you, rush is better than u2" "noooo ur a fag, rush sucks balls" what does that have to do with anything? grow up. i feel sorry for you guys, i really do.
But in the end, what can be said about Rush? Rather pseudo-artsy, caricature-ish lyrics (not to say U2 never had that problem but at least they produced some REAL beauty in their songs, Bono at least had a clear agenda, the preaching cunt that he is), and for the most part just a rather mediocre, run of the mill band. I don't think I've ever heard a Rush song that truly knocked my socks off in its brilliance and sadly that's why I can't liken to them.
@degree7 Maybe you are just musically ignorant and can't except the fact that Neil Peart is the greatest percussionist of all time. The stuff they play is out of this world and i am assuming you don't play an instrument, because if you did you would know how fucking hard it is to come up with music that is a 100th of what they made.
ALTHOUGH.... I will take back my argument about Moving Pictures, that album is at least moderately enjoyable for me. And maybe the debut, to a lesser extent. But my case remains, I'd much rather have a good U2 collection than a Rush one.
At the same time, I'm not a raging U2 fan. Anything from 1987 and onwards..... not doing it for me.
@degree7 1st off you're a dumbass, it would be Rush is terrible. 2nd you may not like Rush but Rush is the most talented band there is. I like U2 but Rush isn't selfish and sells there tickts for some dumbass price. Rush could kick U2 ass any day if there was a compitition with their instruments. Queer.
@degree7 Thats just fucking wrong. RushRules4 is right. Rush makes these guys look like amateurs. Well they make almost any band look like amatuers but these guys are pretty much noobs in comparison. The solo was really fucking average as well
What, you mean like 'Moving Pictures' and fucking 2112???
They're all technically proficient, but arguably the most boring and bland prog band ever to soil the 70s. They're like the shit stain on the toilet paper that Yes use to wipe their asses with.
Whereas U2, let's see, Boy, October, War, The Unforgettable Fire, all straight up classics.
@degree7 Rush's most recent albums like Vapor Trails and Snakes and Arrows sold huge and how was No Line On the Horizon? Rush has Permanent Waves, A Farewell to Kings, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, Roll the Bones, Test For Echo and Hemispheres. Thank you.
@Mrgyn why you thinks a ticket for a rock band has anything to do with the good of man, and to nit pick on something so trivial is the most hipocrtical statement you could ever come out with!
The good of man requires u2 to focus on bigger things, than someone in a very well off position bitching about a concert ticket. Don't reply becuase this bickering could continue on forever! You have your opinions and I have mine!
@Mrgyn U2 dont choose the price, the venue do or the promoters like MCD. Thats why all good band/solo artists have bad prices! And in my opinion U2 are one of thee greatest bands in history!
@Mrgyn stfu, 200 dollars, I would happily pay that to be lucky enough to witness this show live. Think of how much effort, and money that went into this show. And to say U2 are horrible....kinda shows you have no taste in music atall. Could 100,000+ people be wrong?
@fishqwer i know man:\ i had tickets to see them this MONDAY the 7th but it got cancelled and i have no dea when theyl make it up to us....... what a bummer
The thing about rolling stone everyone is that they geared their poll of the top 100 guitarists to satisfy the public. It's all about selling out...you'll never see a virtuoso guitarist who's in a solo group reach number 1 in a "Top Guitarists" poll simply because no one knows him/her.
The Edge is a great guitarist, his ability to play the guitar in a band context and melodic style are actually fairly decent..but nevertheless there are better...
He is the one with his own style, and i think it's unique. I saw It might get loud. Changed my opinion about the Edge. his is not the best guitarist but yeah. so what?
wow this guy is ranked the 24th greatest guitarist of all time by the rolling stone..... they said his guitar solos were simple but hypnotic but is was still expecting something better, i dont see how its better than david gilmour who's guitar solos are complicated and hypnotic(not to mention the live solos last more than 1 minute) and he was ranked 82
@jest392 Rolling stones is a cancerous bullshit on the music industry's brain, hope they go out of business REAL soon! I have seen kids that could run circles around The Edge, period....
@XionComrade Running Circles around him how? By "shredding" or in some other aspect of soloing? I do agree with you that The Edge isn't the greatest or most stimulating soloist, but that's because he probably doesn't spend that much time on it. In "It Might Get Loud" he talks about spending most of his time on sound and finding that unique quality for his guitar sound and perfecting it. The Edge's guitar parts are a lot more unique than most guitarists and a lot of people could learn from that.
one of my favourite solo's ever!

Gary Moore could have done better, strumming the guitar with his knob. The Edge is merely a pop star. No fuckin' guitarist. SHOITE!

@Bonzotriplets1
Why don't you give me some examples of some amazing percussion by Peart then?
Amazing rock drummers are Carl Palmer, Phil Collins, John Bonham, Stewart Copeland. I'm sorry I can't count Neil in the same league.

A shallow band makes for a shallow argument.
There's nothing more to be said, Rush are simply paper thin and BORING.
And to say I don't have the patience goes to show how presumptuous you are. I listen to progressive rock, and Rush are Bad progressive rock.
