Clair is the bomb. Tell it like it is. I love how as soon as Elvin started saying stupid things Cliff was holding his face like "Lord, please yank this boy's tongue before someone gets hurt."
Claire shows how to put someone in their rightful place without losing her dignity. No cursing, no name-calling. She gets to the point, lets him have it, then relaxes and lets the info take affect. She's a true class act. Too bad other shows think the character has to be in the gutter to get a point across.
This was when Elvin and Sondra mended their broken relationship. Clair disliked Elvin until he proposed to Sondra. Apparently,Elvin changed his viewpoint about men ruling women.
Oh, serve *him*. As in "serve your man"? Let me tell you something, Elvin. You see, I am not *serving* Dr. Huxtable, okay? That's the kind of thing that goes on in a restaurant. Now I am going to bring him a cup of coffee just like he brought me a cup of coffee this morning. And *that*, is what marriage is made of: give-and-take fifty-fifty. And if you don't get it together, and drop these macho attitudes, you're never gonna have anybody bringing you anything anywhere, any place, any time EVER.
What i love about elvin in these moments is that he played this chauvinistic character in such a way that he was still likeable. It takes a good actor to do that.
@witcherderrick Whitney Houston was originally gonna play Sondra, but she didn;t get the role due to her music career Whitney would have been a fierce Sandra
I was SO waiting for this moment ever since I first saw Elvin and his chauvanistic attitude. And when she goes "anywhere, anytime, anyplace" really quickly - that's just the skill of a fantastic actress!
This was one of my favorite Claire scenes from "The Cosby Show." I think I stood up and applauded when it first aired! LOL! Saving to my "80's TV moments" playlist :D
This is a lie, Her father and debbie allen's Father was one of the most successful Black Dentists in houton and her mother is a beautiful black woman.
You're so right preston.... It seems like whenever someone finds a Black woman of med complexion attractive they immediate embark on a fishing expedition in a desperate attempt to attribute the attractiveness to another ethnicity and it seems ANY non black ethnicity will do. Again it's sickening, ignorant, unintelligent and sooooo damn old..
@melloprod i agree. Its because she was so intelligent and funny and non-submissive. She was.... a cool person. I always thought she was the perfect match for bill cosby, that funny cool guy.
@smartkrh so true. Bill Cosby said the same thing. She never even got nominated for anything. Shows you how racist America still was in the 80s when this show was on. No matter, she doesn't need an award to know how great of an actress she is :)
That's not true. She was nominated twice for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the first and second seasons, but she didn't win. She lost out to Jane Curtin for KATE & ALLIE and Betty White for THE GOLDEN GIRLS.
@musicaltheatergeek79 Well that's what Cosby said. Perhaps he was more angry that she didn't win anything both times and that's still a testament to that time period.
Clair is funny when she gets upset. Poor Elvin, She should know his way of thinking was due to his upbringing. Not his fault if he wasn't up to date lol. Love this show it is so funny.
"And if you don't git it together, and drop these macho attitudes, you are nevah gonna have anybody bringing you anything, anywhere, any place, any time, EVAH!!!"
I LOVE Clair Huxtable....she was the first person I ever admired (other than my family)...I always wanted to be just like her(minus the 5 kids)...she's intelligent, beautiful, sassy and classy, perfect combo
