I remember my dad telling me a story were this guy was driving along a road in through the woods until he stopped & saw a hitchhiker & picked him up & drove on it was until then that the driver turned to offer this hitchhiker a cigarette but he was gone...

i see this when it first aired in the uk, i was on,ly around 8 or 9 at the time, still remember it to this day, strange but true is what got me intrested in paranormal tv shows, have to say was one of my fav shows ever, should not of been calcelled

I don't really believe it. What would compel a cop to just leave the station with a stranger who appears to be psychotic, in the middle of the night? A normal cop would simply tell him to get the fuck out, as there was no law broken and ghosts are clearly outside police competence or interest.

And let's just sayt his wasn't your typical cop. OK, now why would he drive behind the man and not ride with him in his car or drive IN FRONTof him to be 100% certain there is no foul play.

@dharmanova Not really. If a person say that they picked up women that just disepeared, for a cop it can mean she jumped out or got murdered or that the guy is drunk and trying to fool the cop. But he have to investigate it. So driving his own car behind the man is quite normal, and to experience and see a door open and close by itself while you see the person driving with both hands on the wheel is quite strange.

Hitch hiker ghost stories were all the rage in the 1960's and the 1970's, almost every remote town had one. The next generation "grew up" a bit and stopped making up these campfire fables. That's why you hardly ever hear about them any more. They were all fabrications to begin with. Urban Myths and Legands, nothing more.

One could argue that he was not fully awake and had incorporated the sound of the car door into a dream or dreamed the initial sound with those that followed.
