Sweet! I first heard this album on tape in college...1976! Fell in love with it...bought the LP...gave a copy to my Granddad...and have enjoyed it ever since. Of course Gordon Jenkins was a genius, too...all that great work with Sinatra and Nat King cole...some of my favorites. I hope each new generation can hear this...for the history lesson of the old tunes..and what a fantastic singer can do with them...thanks so much for posting!
I think Harry surprised a lot of people with his flawless delivery and modulation singing this timeless classic. It was arranged by Gordon Jenkins, Sinatra's arranger, and perfromed with the London Symphony Orchestra. What an incredible, naturally gifted musician he was. Raised by a single mum, he taught himself music while working as a bank johnny, and climbed to the very top of the tree. He died relatively young, but his legacy will out live we mere mortals.
In response to 2giggle24 "why keep throwing Einstein in there ...creepy. Personally I find Einstein's and Nilsson's genius a good match. I have read that this song was at least in part inspired by Einsteins discovery that time was relative as was mass etc. These were and still are troubling aspects of reality and this song was written to offer a consolation of sorts that at least something in life was unchangeable and not relativistic.
glen922 thanks to you for uploading a sweet rendition of perhaps the greatest love song of all time! More than enough said! This is the Nilsson i Miss, R I P Harry!
@packingone Nilsson wrote alot of great songs, but this one just happens to be an awesome cover...was written in 1931 by Herman Hupfield for the broadway show Everybody's Welcome ...

I have always loved Nilsson's music. But this is the first time that I listen to this remake. I guess it's true. "Only the good die young".

Bought this album when it came out way back when
Harry made me fall in love with these old classic songs
They were some of the best songs ever written
Others followed this trend of doing a cd of standards, but I always thought Harry was one of the best. This is a great, great album xo

@myblueroad Agree 100% with all you said about this album. Such wonderfully romatic and candle light music.

I have herd "As Time Go By" done by many good artist, never with the griping
softness and ease that Harry Nilsson brings, like no other before or since.
Thanks man.
