Maybe I have such a misconception of scientology because most of us only see the publicized radicals that appear in every religion, but it seem to me there is something wrong with a religion who prohibits something so beneficial like psychological care for no good reason.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but everyone should take advantage of advances in medicine too. I admit to understanding very little of the finer aspects of scientology, but from what I have read on it (and I try to be objective), there seems to be no core belief, and no solid method of achieving anything. I'm a strong Christian; and Christianity, read objectively, sounds just as crazy as the next religion. So I simply follow the rules of the Bible and try to rely on faith.

I do agree to some extent that psychiatry doesn't have a great history. Electroshock Therapy and the old mental institutions... and these days dodgy drugs pushed on to people by legal drug dealers! Of course there is some good to psychiatry, e.g. some of them do believe in talking therapies.

Psychotherapy and talking therapies / CBT far outstrip psychiatry. Some meds ARE good... but psychiatry is still a very limited science. No-one can admit to understanding the human brain that well!

All I believe in is God and being a good person, the best you can be. I don't know if that makes me a Christian or not, but I don't care. @UveBeenGased Auditing is just a poor version of counselling... so it might have some benefits. However the techniques sound like they have psychologically harming side-effects... so therefore overall probably not good!

Scientology seems to have poor versions of everything:

* Auditing - poor / destructive version of counselling

* E-Meter - poorly made lie detector

* Dianetics - poorly written self help book

People would be better off seeing a counsellor and reading some Susan Jeffers ;)

Reviews on the original book were unanimous, it was considered a childish attempt at a "do it yourself talk therapy".

None of the claims of scientology have ever been proven, in fact the assumption is that the high rate of suicide inside the COS is due to the fact that the failure of the tech is blamed on the believer! Have you ever felt that??

I mean look at the Vatican.
