Going into that game, the Chicago Bears were 5-0. They averaged 31.2 points per game while their opponents averaged 7.2. They generated such a buzz that it spread out of the sports world. Time magazine glorified them and quoted a football expert declaring the Bears as a team without a weakness.
Green was wrong about the 2006 Bears. They were multi-dimensional. It's just that one of their dimensions had a bad habit of malfunctioning.
Sad that the first half of this game was arguably the highlight of Matt Leinert's NFL career. After this, it was into the abyss. I guess that comeback f__ked him up worse than people thought.
2:47 - WTF are you cheering about, Rex?! That the defense and Hester bailed your sorry ass out so spectacuarly? Sit down and shut up!
@23ThePerfectionist23 Lol sorry I don't focus on the past like you faggots do! I'm happy you lost the championship and got your heart's broke when BJ RAJI and SAM SHIELDS and the rest of the PACKERS ripped them out of your chests and beat you squared nosed faggots to move to the SUPER BOWL BITCH! @JDB1193 i find it sad yet funny that youre team sucks so bad that you have to root for another team to beat the bears. i feel sorry for you. hey maybe the cardinals will win the superbowl with kevin kolb....that was sarcasm if you couldnt tell
Your comment had no effect on me cus' my team won the superbowl dicksmoker. Did you not see in my response where I wrote "GO PACK GO!"?? @JDB1193 You don't focus on the past? "I'm happy you lost the championship and got your heart's broke when BJ RAJI and SAM SHIELDS and the rest of the PACKERS ripped them out of your chests and beat you squared nosed faggots to move to the SUPER BOWL BITCH!" - JDB1193. You're every bit as pathetic as the people you're attacking. How sad.
@soccer92489 It's never a good night to be a qb running on a mud-shit filled field and getting your ass kicked by the packers, vikings and lions twice a year! XD
@thegame2011able LOL wow u talk a big game cocksucker! But I can't take you seriously, because I didn't know swamp RATS (bears fans) had the capability to even talk! If it were up to me I would round all you faggot ass rats up into cages and put you into the back of my truck and drive you all to a filthy disgusting concentration camp and would neglect you faggots of air food and life! But better yet I would just burn you rats in giant ovens and then dance on your ashes! Nothing better than that!
The 1st Half of this game reminded me of the 1985 Monday Night Football Game at Miami, the Bears only loss that year. But in the 2nd Half, the Chicago Defense & Special teams (and Rackers missed FG at the end) bailed them out.
the 2000 ravens were pretty one-dimensional, and they won the Superbowl. However, nowadays it seems that if the team doesn't have a solid QB, they aren't going to win it all, which was proven by the bears in 2006, and Trent Dilfer wasn't bad, but he was still solid. Grossman's performance in the super bowl was atrocious, and the Bears D was no match for Peyton, Reggie, and Marvin. It still is possible to win a Superbowl with just a great D and not a terrible quarterback.
Dennis Green is a moron. That interview, where he says the 2006 Bears were one-dimensional (meaning all defense) was from after the season. Obviously a team that leads the league in scoring and makes the Super Bowl, and has the greatest special teams player of all time plus a special teams all-pro defender, is not one-dimensional. I think they were pretty well-rounded. They just didn't have a great QB. But Green is a moron. One-dimensional teams don't make the super bowl.
@cauchamar I agree with you that, overall in the 06 season, the Bears were not 1-dimensional. I say they were 3-dimensional - 1) Great Defense; 2) Pretty Good Offense (not great because of inconsistent at QB); 3) Great Special Teams (especially in Return Game). Fortunately for Chicago, they had 2 of the 3 for this MNF Game in Phoenix (that's what they needed to beat the Cardinals). Unfortunately for the Bears, only 2 of the 3 for the Super Bowl. They needed the 3rd to hope to beat the Colts.
@bballmale Indy-Tampa was a great comeback, just incredible to watch. But I disagree about it being the best. I give the Buffalo comeback on Houston in 92 the edge because it was in the playoffs and the bills went on to a Super Bowl berth.
I am a die hard bear fan but cardinals always had a rivalry back in the day of the Chicago Cardinals who where by the way the best in that era and then the Chicago Bears I root for the Cardinals when ever I get to see the game in New York
@MrMeljes2 Great point. I'm sure most people don't know that the Cardinal franchise had it's beginning in Chicago. As a matter of fact, their only 2 NFL Titles came when they were the Chicago Cardinals.
Dennis Green is incorrect (big surprise). The 2006 Bears were a multi-dimensional team. It's just that one of their dimensions had a nasty habit of malfunctioning when you least expected it.
Sad to think that the first half of this game was arguably the high point of Matt Leinert's NFL career. After this it was all downhill. Maybe losing short-circuted his brain or something.
i went to three games that year and i remember rex throwin bombs to berrian. they were no way one dimensional. up until the miami loss they were destroying everyone miami exposed the weakness of pretty much pressuring rex and making him make stupid plays. this comeback is definitely my 2nd fav moment of the year to devins return in the super bowl. great year for the bears
i went to three games that year and i remember rex throwin bombs to berrian. they were no way one dimensional. up until the miami loss they were destroying everyone miami exposed the weakness of pretty much pressuring rex and making him make stupid plays
Neil Rackers went to Illinois so perhaps he hooked it on purpose. (Even though he was from Missouri).
This game, interestingly, killed the Bears year. The end of Mike Brown meant the end of the Bears. The Bears got progressively worse against the run ( and the pass and it showed up most in the Super Bowl where Manning blew zone coverage and the Colts got their first TD by Wayne and the Colts ran all over the Bears. Tommie Harris missing hurt too.
One dimensional team? They just showed two dimensions in the comeback alone...defense and special teams. Dennis Green is an idiot. Plus pretty much the whole year a good running game by Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson (yes him too.)
Berrian and Muhsin were decent that year. So he was wrong on ALL counts.
that was the night I turned to the computer and thought, "Well...the bears just lost." And then I could hear the excitment in the announcer's voices and I ran...I bolted back to the computer. Holy shit, what an amazing game.
You know I feel bad for Leinhart. The Bears not only in-game, but actually killed his career. Think about it. After this game the poor bastard was never the same.
Where is the rest of the top 10? Also, I know it wasn't shown nationally, isn't on youtube, but I think the two miracle comebacks from 2001 might be even better.
How were the 2006 Bears One Dimensional????? Before that game they were beating people in the air, on the ground, with dominating Defense, great kick returns, perfect FG kicking by Robbie Gould. That doesn;t sound like a one dimensional team to me. On that night yes they were one dimensional (plus the Hester kick) by only scoring through Defense and it still beat a great all-around game from the Cardinals.
I will always remember this game cause I have family in Arizona and kept texting them. We got three minutes left!! But either way. I love the cardinals , and they are the original Chicago football team. So I wish they beat the Steelers. But yeah , Az has nothing on the Bears. Just an old Chicago team :)
Cardinals are the Chicago basically. I am a huge Bears fan but still wear and sport a Cardinals jersey cause they were in Chicago for the longest time.
The 2006 Bears where a 1 demensional team. That's what Green meant when he said "We are who we thought they were!" I never understood what he was sayin until now. II guess u do learn something new everyday.
I'm not a Bears fan, but I really like Cutler. Everyone puts the blame on him, but it's not his fault. Matt Forte is not really that good, and the offensive line sucks. If I was a Bears fan, I'd want Lovie and Angelo(GM) fired.
@urslasher54 no the whole team lost that one, especially defense letting Manning score easy touchdowns and bleed the clock with checkdowns for first downs. Plus Benson fumbled...
That was Probably Matt Leinarts best game as a pro. This was the game they had me thinking he would be a future pro bowler.Don't know what happened to him.The few games they he's played in the last few years. he looked like he regressed to something worst than a rookie.Hopefully he can get it together and show some of the promise he displayed in this game
@DirtyFaceCapon3 I thought that as well, but it seems like this one unbelievably surreal game(that as a Bears, I almost turned off several times) sent alot in motion.. it propelled the Bears, made Denny Green's firing inevitable, and seemingly cursed Matt Leinart.
Devin Hester did not become DEVIN Hester till after this guy.....so don't fault the AZ cardinals for kicking to him. This was his rookie season and only his second return for a TD up to that point
haha i like dennis green and i'm a bears fan i like how at the end he says me blowing up like that is a real good stress reliever. It's ok to blow up every once in a while it's good actually. You can't hold that shit in let it out
ill never forget honest to god laughing my ass of for about 5 mins after this game ended....i still get a chuckle everytime i think about it...GO BEARS
After the Dennis Green rant, and after the Bears beat the Saints to go to the Superbowl, you know what the headline in the Chicago Tribune was the next day?
i say that grossman is better then cutler, well they both suck but grossman is better, he got them to the super bowl, and cutler got them to win against the lions the worst team in the league
@DXRULZ4 No the defense and Devin Hester got them to the superbowl. Rex Grossman just made things more complicated for the offense. The only offense they had was running the ball to Thomas Jones, they couldn't trust Grossman to throw the ball because it was like playing Russian Roulette with 5 bullets. We saw at the end of the year how good Jay Cutler is against Minnesotta and Detroit, and it's a hell of a lot better than Grossman ever was.
imatreehuggawhoisnotabearsfan!!! hey man if u r a true bears fan than u would shut the fuck up!!!! and support the bears!!!! how about them bears d without urlacher? how about not starting d. armoashadu till wk 13 when all ALONG CUTLER WANTED HIM AS HIS #1 RECIEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW ABOUT MATT FORTE FUMBLING A COUPLE OF GAMES!!!!! DONT BLAME JAY FOR 4-5 LOSES BLAME THE TEAM!!!! MARTZ IS A GREAT MOVE! 2 GO ALONG WITH M. TICE !!!!!! THIS SEASON WE ARE GOING TO GO 12-4!!!! IMABEARHUGGER!!!
I'm a huge Bears fan, but it's really pointless to start talking about Cutler and Martz before the season.
Cutler was suppose to be our savior in the beginning of the season, and I understand that it's his first year in Chicago, but he blew 4 or 5 games for us.
yeah i agree even tho the o-line cost us some games (espicially orlando pace on that false start in the falcons snf game) cutler blew it up in the 49ers game, even hanie could've won that game
god i remember me being the only one awake and thinking of goin to bed but i said lets just see if they could get a turnover or two and get something going at the end of the third lol and they got more than a couple they were so fun to watch they have to have a deffese like that next year
No. It was a regular season game that made them 5-0. But, it was the game that gave them such momentum and confidence that got them to the Super Bowl.
THEY LOST THAT TITTLE NOW WE WERE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE NOW THEY SUCK! CARDINALS HAVE EARNED THE TITTLE OF NFC AND WE HAVE KURT TO HAHAH sry for braging you guys were good at the 2008 but we won and 2009 but we won again but you are a good team
@jsj85 i dont know if you forgot but last year in the superbowl who lost? o right that was the cardinals. same story. 2 similar teams so shut ur damn mouth
He was bad yes, BUT he actually has a better winning record ( and less picks) than Cutler. We need recievers, if we had that maybe he wouldn't have bombed as bad.
The Bears need a new O-Line, and an Offensive Coordinator that will actually draw up plays that work to Cutlers strengths [how many times do they have him roll out of the pocket?]. There just isn't much for Cutler to work with right now, so he doesn't have much of a chance at succeeding.
Its like when he was in Denver and they had a Defense that gave up tons of points and forced him to take too many risks so he wound up getting picked off a lot.
I remember waking up after napping, turning on the TV, and watching Mike Brown strut into the endzone on a fumble recovery TD....and I kept watching and waiting and DEVIN HESTER YOU ARE RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!! THEN IT WENT WIDE LEFT THE BEARS WIN THE BEARS WIN!!!!!
Next Day, I saw the rant. and I got the image in my head of a Bear wearing a Crown on its Ass. IF YOU WANNA CROWN EM THEN CROWN THEIR ASS!
man that was funny at the end coach wuz like ready to do this "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH thank u for coming
complete opposite yesterday our QB played great but our Defense couldnt stop shit and those refs didnt help things at all they wouldnt call anything the Cardinals did and they called every little thing the bears did
If they were who you thought they were..Then why did you kick it to Hester?? You had to know who he was??

@silenthatedyouth I KNO RIGHT LOL I REALLY THINK MATT LEINART IS A GOOD QB!
jordan23izballin 1 year ago
that was the night I turned to the computer and thought, "Well...the bears just lost." And then I could hear the excitment in the announcer's voices and I ran...I bolted back to the computer. Holy shit, what an amazing game.

this is what happens when you talk smack throughout the game, and think you;re the best and you;re not, but you're just a rookie
conspicuious 1 year ago
This is the only time i have ever seen ONE man take over a game like Urlacher did in this game. He was a fucking grizzly BEAR in this game
killemall1211 1 year ago
You know I feel bad for Leinhart. The Bears not only in-game, but actually killed his career. Think about it. After this game the poor bastard was never the same.
sastath 1 year ago
Where is the rest of the top 10? Also, I know it wasn't shown nationally, isn't on youtube, but I think the two miracle comebacks from 2001 might be even better.

How were the 2006 Bears One Dimensional????? Before that game they were beating people in the air, on the ground, with dominating Defense, great kick returns, perfect FG kicking by Robbie Gould. That doesn;t sound like a one dimensional team to me. On that night yes they were one dimensional (plus the Hester kick) by only scoring through Defense and it still beat a great all-around game from the Cardinals.
JZ2001JC 1 year ago
I will always remember this game cause I have family in Arizona and kept texting them. We got three minutes left!! But either way. I love the cardinals , and they are the original Chicago football team. So I wish they beat the Steelers. But yeah , Az has nothing on the Bears. Just an old Chicago team :)

god DAMN rex sounds like a beast when he was at the line of scrimmage ... at the end on the sideline also!

Cardinals are the Chicago basically. I am a huge Bears fan but still wear and sport a Cardinals jersey cause they were in Chicago for the longest time.
Chumpster1981 1 year ago
The 2006 Bears where a 1 demensional team. That's what Green meant when he said "We are who we thought they were!" I never understood what he was sayin until now. II guess u do learn something new everyday.

I'm not a Bears fan, but I really like Cutler. Everyone puts the blame on him, but it's not his fault. Matt Forte is not really that good, and the offensive line sucks. If I was a Bears fan, I'd want Lovie and Angelo(GM) fired.
TheBallingSuperstar 1 year ago
Rex Grossman lost the Super Bowl for the Bears.
urslasher54 1 year ago
@urslasher54 no the whole team lost that one, especially defense letting Manning score easy touchdowns and bleed the clock with checkdowns for first downs. Plus Benson fumbled...
JakeTSnake7 1 year ago
@JakeTSnake7
Well that is true, but Rexy did pretty awful.
urslasher54 1 year ago
Im a HUGE Bears fan, and thank GOD that we got rid of ron turner. now that the offense is fixed, we need to STOP running the COVER 2 defense!
TheSoccerdawg 1 year ago
That was Probably Matt Leinarts best game as a pro. This was the game they had me thinking he would be a future pro bowler.Don't know what happened to him.The few games they he's played in the last few years. he looked like he regressed to something worst than a rookie.Hopefully he can get it together and show some of the promise he displayed in this game
DirtyFaceCapon3 1 year ago
@DirtyFaceCapon3 I thought that as well, but it seems like this one unbelievably surreal game(that as a Bears, I almost turned off several times) sent alot in motion.. it propelled the Bears, made Denny Green's firing inevitable, and seemingly cursed Matt Leinart.

@jojopuppyfish who cares if that was only
His 2nd. He still got the record for most TDs by a rookie KR
XXawsomedude 1 year ago
@XXawsomedude The guy in the video about asks "Why would they kick to him?"
Because AZ didn't know what Devin Hester was capable of.
jojopuppyfish 1 year ago
Devin Hester did not become DEVIN Hester till after this guy.....so don't fault the AZ cardinals for kicking to him. This was his rookie season and only his second return for a TD up to that point
jojopuppyfish 1 year ago 2
haha i like dennis green and i'm a bears fan i like how at the end he says me blowing up like that is a real good stress reliever. It's ok to blow up every once in a while it's good actually. You can't hold that shit in let it out

TillICollapze 1 year ago
i say that grossman is better then cutler, well they both suck but grossman is better, he got them to the super bowl, and cutler got them to win against the lions the worst team in the league
DXRULZ4 1 year ago
@DXRULZ4 No the defense and Devin Hester got them to the superbowl. Rex Grossman just made things more complicated for the offense. The only offense they had was running the ball to Thomas Jones, they couldn't trust Grossman to throw the ball because it was like playing Russian Roulette with 5 bullets. We saw at the end of the year how good Jay Cutler is against Minnesotta and Detroit, and it's a hell of a lot better than Grossman ever was.
TillICollapze 1 year ago
@TillICollapze thank you cutler is an amazing qb he just needs time to get use to that offense. and better receivers

HOW ABOUT MATT FORTE FUMBLING A COUPLE OF GAMES!!!!! DONT BLAME JAY FOR 4-5 LOSES BLAME THE TEAM!!!! MARTZ IS A GREAT MOVE! 2 GO ALONG WITH M. TICE !!!!!! THIS SEASON WE ARE GOING TO GO 12-4!!!! IMABEARHUGGER!!!
wedontneedpigs 1 year ago
I'm a huge Bears fan, but it's really pointless to start talking about Cutler and Martz before the season.
Cutler was suppose to be our savior in the beginning of the season, and I understand that it's his first year in Chicago, but he blew 4 or 5 games for us.
imatreehugga 1 year ago
yeah i agree even tho the o-line cost us some games (espicially orlando pace on that false start in the falcons snf game) cutler blew it up in the 49ers game, even hanie could've won that game

Was that the game for the superbowl?

No. It was a regular season game that made them 5-0. But, it was the game that gave them such momentum and confidence that got them to the Super Bowl.
Coganboy 2 years ago 7
@Coganboy They went 6-0 . And it was huge too because they beat the "old" Chicago team.. The Chicago Cardinals.

@jsj85 i dont know if you forgot but last year in the superbowl who lost? o right that was the cardinals. same story. 2 similar teams so shut ur damn mouth
gunnahappen1908 2 years ago
"They have a quarterback so bad, and we're going to beat you anyway!"
That sums it up perfectly. That defense did the impossible. That game, to me, is like a Super Bowl victory in terms of how they did it.
Coganboy 2 years ago
dude you guys suck now we cardinals fans are cool ad be a good sport or i will be braging ok thank you

Uh dude. I'm not a Bears fan, so the joke is on you dude. I just respect what that defense did.
Coganboy 2 years ago
man rex is a piece of shit i am so glad he is off the bears
hiv2481 2 years ago
He was bad yes, BUT he actually has a better winning record ( and less picks) than Cutler. We need recievers, if we had that maybe he wouldn't have bombed as bad.
majestik815 2 years ago
The Bears need a new O-Line, and an Offensive Coordinator that will actually draw up plays that work to Cutlers strengths [how many times do they have him roll out of the pocket?]. There just isn't much for Cutler to work with right now, so he doesn't have much of a chance at succeeding.
Its like when he was in Denver and they had a Defense that gave up tons of points and forced him to take too many risks so he wound up getting picked off a lot.
JoeCB1991 2 years ago 2
sry for busting your bubble but we beat them to times badly its true we have earned the tittle ^W^

is he better than cutler? LOL

Well they got their revenge. Still I agree with Beardownchitown hope their f*cking plane crashes back to that stinkhole in the desert.
WTF is the point of electing a president from Chicago if we can't have our teams wins? Cmon Obama call in an air strike or something!
