This is called being smart not lucky.....so many are dead today because they panic and don't know how to think their way out of danger....all the guy did was steer in the direction his tires was going and that saved him.
I didnt see any oil on the road, but nice control of the car, i honestly would have driving into every car on the road, and barrel rolled off the side if it was me! lol.
Note to self: Do not drive 90 miles an hour on slick tires. (Or 150 kph on slick tyres, if you please.) I have spun out twice in my life at speeds like that. Once I was going over the hill from San Jose CA, USA to Santa Cruz. There was a semi approaching fast. (Sorry, I do not know the Brit word for semi.) I straightened the car out a second before it whizzed past. That certainly focuses ones attention. I drove at about 30 mph for the rest of the trip, watching the rear view mirror.
pretty good save nice reflexs, poor skills though all he did was put it on the stops and hope for the best, if he would have had some skills he wouldnt have over corrected twice and cause 2 unneccasary skids.
@CODEEmx527 Easier said than done, because one cannot be sure whether the car is going to stick coming out of the correction or spin out again. If you over-correct a little, at least you will be losing some momentum to side-slip either way it goes.
notice how he pulled over at the end, he either had to change his shorts, or catch his breath, or both. I would have pulled over to, right about then it's time to just chill out compose yourself maybe kiss the pavement
That was a damn nice save. In America, we'd go "Ehh" and throw our hands in the air....well, I wouldn't, the people who spend all their time eating McDonalds and Burger King will :P
Awesome skills ! it's actually refreshing to see some one else on the road that is actually capable of keeping control of their vehicle in a situation like that. Not just scream and slam on the brakes.
When I do this kind of spin out in like Gran Turismo 5, I do the same reaction, but the car is never facing the correct forward position like he ended up.
Haha, I would've thought the Audi Quattro AWD system would've helped a bit more. Is it possible that RWD would've been significantly harder to control in the same situation?
@KYCHICKIE32 1) Are you jealous you can't do that? 2) You get into a situation like that and come out with a nice, ONE PIECE car 3) Go fast, break the speedometer as long as you know your car and have total control over it it's all it matters 4) Wrong place to insult.
The driver reacts awesome chilled, he does everything right, look how he thinks about a downshift at 0:48, but he knew he has enoug torque and rev to rule it out. very nice, respect from a test driver to you :)
I work in a test facility from audi in germany. I assure you that if your car is already drifting, ESP is a real bad thing. Slow driving in winter -> ESP on, all else ESP off.
sometimes, when theres enoug room on the tasttrack and I (provocated) begin to drift I switch off ESP and you can feel it in your "ass" that handling gets much better. because when you steer right to left etc, the amount of torque needed to keep wheels spinning varies so that esp can never rule it out
@poopinsink I'm not attacking, but why would you mention the tire for anything other than it's ability to roll oil back onto the road surface?
This obviously had very little to do with the tire and nearly everything to do with the driver. It wasn't pretty, but he held it and gave the car what it needed to get back under control. -Human supercomputer.
Not taking anything away from the driver OFC, was not my intent on the reply, just saying this would have been FAR harder a recover without the ESP system.
Ehhh.... it works fine on my 01' A6 4.2L..... We live in upstate NY, and have plenty of opportunity to "test" the ESP on ice ;-) You can actually feel it changing braking pressure levels to the different tires on the lake in slides. Perhaps it does shit its pants at first, but the system took over at some point, I assure you.
@ThePowerranger112 no way man, traction and esp are set to stop the car ever getting that far, over oil or fluid there is so little grip the TC and ESP just shit themselves it actually makes it harder to catch the car. similar effect on ice.
Tiene toda la pinta de ser una patinada por hielo en la parte sombría de ese corte de la montaña tan vertical, y en el letrero luminoso del principio debía poner alerta por pavimento deslizante. No se donde esta la proeza.
nice. i did that in my truck on the ice a week ago. unluckily the front end was overly attracted to the light pole :( i wish i coulda pulled that off!

Nice Reflects!!!! I wouldn't be sitting there on the side of the road for very long, you know someone else isn't going to react as quickly as he did. He's good but you know he shit himself during that! lol
@jellytree1 what are you on about a set up? if it was a set up he would have pulled the hand brake to get the back sliding like that or floored it to get it sliding like that but the engine sound was constant. no matter what you say thats great driving skills right there
Wow the same thing happened to me a while ago. I was cut off by someone going FORTY miles an hour on the highway (I was going ~80). I braked hard and turned at the same time which caused my 98 Ford Taurus to fishtail (I don't think I got as much angle as this guy did). I came about and inch close to the concrete barrier. I bet this guy was scared shit-less like I was lol.
