  • shit........is one of the best moving on guitar XD i wanna do that....but is really hard x.x

  • wtf does homemade windmills have to do with this vid?

  • @l0rd0ct0d0rk his arm spins like a windmill to strum the guitar

  • @banga999 I mean at the end of the video, it popped up with homemade windmills, like the kind you put outside in the end. Watch it to the end, and you'll see what I'm saying.

  • @RastafariPoet This will answer your question, funny story too. very cool. watch?v=hrm2pnh30Uc

  • hes still got it

  • bloody hell.. how on Earth does he do that without losing his fingers 0_o

  • @CamShaft200 I have ALWAYS envied him for that. He has ghost fingers because he's a music god

  • it's fcking amazing, no matter how i' d try I can't make it =(

  • Anyone know when the windmill was created? Because I reconized Jimi Hendrix doing it at one of his earlier shows in london.

  • @RastafariPoet

it was created by pete townshend in the early days of the who... 63 or so.

  • Peter impaled his hand on the tremolo arm once! Didn't seem to put him off though!

I'm a female lead guitarist and i must say i tried to put the masculinity into windmilling that Peter does, but when i practise in front of the mirror, it doesn't look near as sexy as he does....oh well i tried!

  • i heard that townshend saw richards do it, asked him if he could, and richards said that he never even remembered windmilling.

  • @Strentanator Yeah, you're right, in the Who biography book 'Before i get old' Pete said that he saw Keith Richards do it but he said Keith just used to swing his hand from his elbow (like a mini-windmill lol) so Pete improved on the idea and did it from the shoulder which looks much better doesn't it?

  • Actually you are all almost right. Pete saw Keith doing it and asked him if he could use the move and Keith said that he was just warming up and that it wasn't a move so therefore it is Pete's

  • Here's the Wikipedia entry in case you doubt - " guitar windmills " - Made famous by The Who's guitarist Pete Townshend. [1] Townshend claimed he first saw it performed by Keith Richards, who was warming up before a concert. After the concert Pete asked Keith if he could use the move,

  • Well, as we all do undoubtedly know PETE is the "windmill." The one known for doing it, anyway. BUT, the windmill is not Pete's. He actually got it from Keith - yes, that Keith (Richards). He saw him do it, long ago, asked if he could "borrow" it and Keith said sure.

  • Actually, Keith Richards was just stretching, and he began sort of windmilling. That's where Pete got the idea.

  • LMFAO!

You people need to get a close up of "the windmill" in slo-mo.

He doesn't touch the strings with his right hand - he strums them with the free fingers of his left.

This has been fooling people for years and it's a classic piece of misdirection.

  • Haha you can't go wrong with some distortion and an A power chord!

  • I was at this show, Mohegan Sun in 2006. Epic show.

  • all the blood ppools in my hand when i try this, feels like its gonna burst

  • HOW OLD IS HE. HE IS

  • 63 years young...

  • now im tempted to put my amplifier on the highest volume and attempt the fabled windmill xD

  • Pete Townshend has the ONLY windmill.

  • ive tried windmilling upstroke but it seems easier do this downstroke, but im not sure if that is a legitamate way of windmilling???

    any thoughts?

  • If you attempt this, be prepared to bleed.

  • Yeah a lot of times townshend would lose a fingernail and his guitar would has spots of blood all over it.

  • yeah i saw that OUCH!

  • iv kindof got the hang of them now

but my guitar is coverd in blood and my finger/ thumb is fucked haahaha

    rock and roll tho

  • The windmill is actually a simple trick just don't be afraid thinking your gonna hurt your self pete did it like twenty times in a row the most i can do is 7.

  • This should be at least two sentences and there should be at least one comma.

  • Thank you for the correction nerd. Why don't you go do some algebra or something fag.

  • BEING SMART IS FAGGY

Nice message kid. Now, get back to work- McDonalds doesn't pay you to watch youtube videos.

  • Hahaha McDonalds good one but I'm actually a blues musician. And I wouldnt be talking because atleast I don't subscribe to porn channels on here and don't watch porn like you it's called getting a girlfriend something you will never have.

  • Hmm, defining the quality of character by the things you own and not who you are and how you act. I think it's time to grow up.

  • Your both dipshits

  • You're an idiot.

  • yes, I'm the idiot when you're the guy bitching about on youtube

  • I guess you didn't notice what I had done.

I used the word that you misspelled to insult you.

You, sir, have a different definition of bitching than I do.

  • I don't know how everyone else attempts the windmill but I always put the pick between my thumb and my first finger.

Then I use the rest of my fingers to slap against the strings.

I viewed one of windmills a while back and slowed it down frame by frame.

That's how he normally does it.

Yes, you do take skin off your fingers after you've done it multiple times just like Pete but that's rock and roll.

And best of all, kids and Who fans just love it.

  • i actually got rlly good at the windmill

  • i just cant do it. i always grate the skin of my fingers...

  • Yea me too! :0

  • use a fingerpick

  • @Theodoremuth i know your comment is a year old, but,, ever used a pick ? XD

  • dude he is the king of all moves including that the smashing of corse the spinning the bird poose all that sweet shit

  • The one move he is not king of is the playing with your teeth move that Jimi Hendrix did.

  • owned. While townshend was the king of destruction, and destruction is class, hendrix was the one who came up with tricks that no one else could actually do :O

  • townshend has the a trade mark on the windmill

  • If I had known about The Who when I was 15 I could have been at this concert! Damn it!Long Live Rock, Long Live The Who!

  • watch lewy windmills. its something like this

  • I'd love to be Rachel Fuller. Pete's my hero :D
