  • My teacher played this song

  • how did i get here from call of duty blackopps moon zombies

  • my teacher plays these videos before every chapter. I love my history teacher.

    .

  • I LOVE THIS BAND!

  • this song has been stuck in my head for the past week, and yet, i actually liked it.....:)

  • i really like this video but it just does not get out your head

  • My favorite by far, love the beat!!!

  • My favorite by far, love the beat!!!

  • Constantine changed everything to the worse.

    ps: what persecutions to cristians???

  • @GODDIONYSUS The ones he stopped? Before his rule, Diocletian was one of the worst Emperors to the Christians. They were used as torches to light up banquets, hung to crosses, thrown into colosseums with lions for spectator sport. Constantine ended all of that by making Christianity a tolerated religion - it became the official religion of the Roman Empire under Theodosius. But it was because of Constantine that it actually became accepted, because before him, /nobody/ liked it. He did good.

  • @dragontorch14 Cristians may suffered some prosecutions, but when they took the control of the Roman Empire they caused tremendous massacres to ethnicities, paganists and muslims.

Also the dark age is result of cristianity, remember Galileo and inquisition.

Creation of church was politics and nothing more.

  • @GODDIONYSUS First of all, get rid of the term "Dark Ages". It's no longer appropriate. Secondly, Christianity did not cause the Medieval Period. Learn your history, please, then come back and argue with me.

  • @dragontorch14 Easy, mr Crusader! Do not kill me because i do not agree with your politicians (sorry i meant priests). Lowiness please!

  • @GODDIONYSUS Politicians/Priests? Try facts. The "Dark Ages" don't exist - that's an imposition applied to the period 476-1400 from the Renaissance and Enlightenment period that says more about their conception of history than actual facts.

  • @dragontorch14 Your god does not exist as well, it is just some rumors in bible, but do not take it personally.

  • @GODDIONYSUS The fact you're assuming I'm Christian is hilarious, actually. Thanks for the laugh.

Just because I don't malign the Church with the paintbrush of "evil" doesn't make me a Christian. I just study history.

  • @dragontorch14 Yeah I believe you!

  • Good to hear!

  • @dragontorch14 Peace!

    ps: I study history too.

  • @GODDIONYSUS ... apparently not...

  • @dragontorch14 I agree. Not "your history"

  • @GODDIONYSUS What history then?

  • @dragontorch14 The history of inquisition and many more

  • Was I supposed to use 3-D glasses to watch this?

  • I heard this familiar tune on Get Him to the Greek during the drunken fighting scene and I had no idea where I heard it! So I looked up all the songs from the movie and then realized I heard Come On Eileen the tune when I saw your video! My AP Art History teacher loves you BTW.

  • Bill & Ted would've LOVED this.

  • when it says a saint to byzantines it means he saved the leftover romans and made the byzantine empire, if anyone was wondering

  • im not trying to correct them im just trying to help explain, not that anyone asked.

  • @JoeyandJD Well, actually, it means more directly that he is officially listed as a saint by the Greek Orthodox Church (and most other Easter churches).

  • this song is awesome! my social studies teacher showed us this and now i cant get it out of my head

  • Great job

  • Have been researching more about Constantine and was shocked to find out he killed his son and his wife :(

  • @Weisse29 That's what happens when you're the emperor's wife and may or may not have been fooling around with your stepson. :)

  • @historyteachers And may or may not have been plotting with the stepson to murder the Emperor and take the throne.

  • @Weisse29 Still...not a terrible record for a Roman emperor ;)

  • @Weisse29 his wife tricked him into killing his son since she was his second wife and wanted her sons to be the heir to the throne which sadly happened and when he found out he had her killed would u like it if your wife killed your son for Ambition

  • Have been researching more about Constantine and was shocked to find out he killed his son and his wife :(

  • Explains things soo clearly :) just a shame it doesn't go in depth into the Historiography :P

  • this is the ONLY way to study for history finals, thank you so much for your amazing videos!!! :)

  • Seems like an a++++ assignment for school!

  • You are beautiful and you have created something amazing. Marry me and stuff. :)

  • Nice song

  • She says Anarchy like it's a bad thing...giggle

  • Absolutely love these songs. My favs are this one (constantine),french revolution, beowulf, martin luther & William the conquerer. Can't stop replaying them. How about a song for Matilda (empress Matilda) and Clothilde?

I so want to change my career and work in some way with history (esp.Medieval) any ideas? Thank you :)

  • i love these videos!!! it's so much better than using a book to study for the apwh national!

  • Thank you so much for making these videos! The French Revolution one is catchier than the plague, but it helped me study for my French Rev test and learn more about my heritage. It even had my very French great grandmother humming it after a few minutes.

  • bravo Mr H.istory, you got skills

  • Wow! Great idea!

  • These videos are brilliant! So catchy and educational at the same time. Thank you :)

  • Just found these videos......brilliant. Thanks!

  • My class loves theese videos soooo much!! Thanks, we actually have some fun in school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :)

  • Not sure if this or 'Charlemagne' is the catchiest. These videos are so well done - a history lesson in three or four minutes. Professional quality, as accurate as any historical perspective can be.

  • @KJ4565455 Thank you for your kind words! We try :)

  • It was Horatius at the bridge. (Although Constantine, in fact, also fought a great battle at a Tiber bridge outside Rome. It was the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312 that made him master of the West.)

  • Yay!!! i watched this and i aced my test on this!!!!

  • Ok, what unappreicative dumbass hit "dislike" for this amazing masterpiece?

  • @ptomaugust

    Perhaps it was Maxentius.

  • @HaecceitasQuidditas Touche. You got me there.

  • You should do Cincinnatus on the bridge

  • Make a CD!

  • I like this way better than the original version.

  • I hate it when software just cuts you off without warning.

As I was saying, as a person, Constantine remains something of an enigma. A very good treatment is Dorothy L. Sayer’s play, “The Emperor Constantine”, in which the known history, ancient legends, and some plausible speculation are combined for a lengthy, but ultimately stunning piece of theatre.

  • As to “Istanbul not Constantinople now”—by the way, that song goes back to 1953 and was originally recorded by the Four Lads—this song, like most of Mrs. B’s, is written in the Historic Present, so “now” means AD 313 or so.

  • @NJMerlin yes! thank you! Someone who gets it!

  • @historyteachers As Count Danilo said to Hanna Glawari, "Ach, man tut was man kann."

Ever consider tackling something by the Corrs? I think several of their songs would suit your fach.

  • @historyteachers I like users that answer back to the questions of the viewers

  • Lots of early Christians were baptized on their deathbeds. The idea had gotten around that, since baptism involved the forgiveness of your sins, if you sinned /after/ you were baptized, you were toast. It took the Church ages to knock that one on the head.

Constantine’s attachment to the Unconquered Sun comes from earlier in his career. It is generally suspected that it was as close to public Christianity as he dared come at that point.

But, as a person, Constantine remains something of an

  • just a nerds point, he was a sole emperor so you cant say that the wst was in anarchy. Great job however!

  • This video rocks! Constantine was, however, not such a good Christian... Devoted of the pagan religion of the Sun Invictus, which glorified the Emperor's own image and only was baptized a Christian in his dying bed.

  • this issssss so funny and good

  • I think you should do a vid about the 5 Good Emperors.

  • ... when christians were no longer persecuted... but now all other 'non-conform' religions are... lol. LOVE your vidoes!! I'm going to share them with my other history-buff friends.. (ie., my SCA friends) :-D

  • Don't forget how to play that Fiddle, Mr H.... I don't want this should scare you, but rumor has it her next song will use the music from "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" !!!... (I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist the tease!) Good song to use for Faust, though! Great video!

  • Istanbul was Constantinople

    Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople

Been a long time gone, Constantinople

Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

You are great. Just continue that way. :)

  • thanks cuz of this song i aced my social studies test

  • @KEVINSAWESOME1 these are my favorite types of comments! Glad we could help!

  • Comment removed

  • I heard about your vids on As It Happens, a radio show on CBC! I shared them with some of our history teachers. Too bad YouTube is blocked by our school board. My grade 12 French class LOVED the French Revolution Vid.

  • When did they start calling the Byzantine Empire? I know why it's called that, but is it a modern thing, or what?

  • @badboysRhawt22 I think it was something that started in the last century or so. Maybe in the 1800s. I think it started as an attempt to give more credit to western europe, by western historians. But that's just what I've heard. Since we prefer the date of the late 5th century as the end of Rome instead of accepting the eastern empire.

  • I love your stuff! I have been watching the videos all morning and wish i had the ideas and tallent to pull this kind of stuff through. very inspiring! You're an inspiration to history teachers all over! Keep up the good work!

  • I could have used these videos to study for my western civ final!

  • I (and They Might Be Giants) do have one point of rebuttal - It's Istanbul, Not Constantinople *lol*

  • I love your stuff. :-)

  • ... I can't think of an expletive that accurately sums up my shock and awe: Nova Roma was Byzantium! Incredibly good; as a pop musician and history buff I love this - as a confirmed pessimist I'm amazed to find it exists.

    Thanks!

  • This stuff rocks!

  • Are these songs available for download? Lol. I like a lot of these better than the originals, this one included.

  • @badboysRhawt22 Thanks- we are working on that- building a site, etc.

  • I'm a history major in college, and I can really appreciate these parodies, keep it up!!

  • @randommeezie Constantine was afraid of his empire collapsing because of the whole jesus fad (news spreads slow back in the day), so he got some people in the panel and instead of fight and killing whoever talks about the j-man and his talks, he decided to change things a fair bit to suit the crowd so that money is saved and people are delusionally happy. thus roman catholoism.

  • I think this is my favorite. Canterbury Tales is a very close second. Congratulations on finding a way to hopefully get children interested in history. SO MUCH more enjoyable than the mnemonic devices that have been around forever. Most impressive, very creative!! Keep up the great work.

  • This version is definitely better, and catchy

  • Excellent!

  • Well done! Congrats from the "12 Byzantine Rulers" guys!

  • Weird. But somehow wonderful.

  • WIN

  • I too am falling in deepest smit with her...

  • OK, I think I'm in love with Mrs B :-)

  • you lot rock, awesome....just awesome

  • did you know that constantine was responsible for creating roman catholicism? the changed christianity became many killers' and massacres' inspiration.

  • @VWYL900802 To say that Constantine I created Roman Catholicism is like saying that Elizabeth I created the United States. It would be less wrong, though still wrong, to say that Constantine created Greek Orthodoxy.

  • @NJMerlin constantine is roman. thus, ROMAN catholic. he wouldn't have created the greek orthodox. and no, you're analogy on the whole Elizabeth thing is wrong, her dynasty was far too early for the revolution.

  • @VWYL900802 "Constantine is roman. thus, ROMAN catholic." If you think that is a rational argument, I doubt there is anything that can be done for you, but I'll give it a try. Here are a couple of hints: What world-famous city was renamed for Constantine? Where is it? What was it called before Constantine?

  • Educational music ftw!

  • Awesome!

  • If this is some project that actual history teachers whipped together, than i applaud you.

    It is thunderous.

  • Thanks! Yes, we are "actual" history teachers and we just roll like that...please watch the rest of our videos! My personal fav is "Elizabeth"...Mrs. B

  • @historyteachers

I can see why, but do not sell this one short.
