  • @punkrockerRHCP80

If you want it on CD, there's a 4 cd long box compilation floating out there from Universal of France's "essentials of cinema" series. Otherwise, I've seen the pictured ep floating around at places like Dusty Groove.

  • This is the music that I listen to on headphones while killing penguins with an ice pick.

  • c'est sublime !

  • shit yeah, serge.

  • I can see who alot of bands are influenced by, including portishead, air, broadcast, etc..

  • @LoUsIf not to mention alot of hip hop and dance acts

  • 2 ppl just can't stop listening to this song

  • which album is this off of?

  • @CkylevpHD i believe it was only released as a 7" with l'alouette

  • Why does this song remind me of Coldplay's "God Put A Smile Upon My Face.?"

  • @YiGo you're right , i agree with you :)

  • @YiGo

    Because they probably heard it...

  • I would like to have the sheet. If someone got it.

  • credit to the right genius, please... the composer, arranger and conductor of this piece is jean-claude vannier, and as so often, serge took the glory. serge was a poet, but these groovy sounds come from the mind of JCV

  • @doomboylow did JCV write the melodies, chords, song structure and orchestration to Serge's songs?

  • @GuitarMan1117a Jean-Claude VanDamme? The muscles from Brussels?

  • @GuitarMan1117a actually Jean-Claude Vannier only worked with Gainsbourg for about 2years in the early 70s (he is credited with the term "arrangements"), their fruitful (and last) collabaration being "Melody Nelson" in 1971 (his best album ever to me, with "l'homme a tete de chou") - what they did else is film music.

A lot of fans (me incl., & doomboylow i guess) regret their collaboration didn't go further - ego issues..."who's to credit" indeed

Anyway he often had some1 for "arrangements"

  • @occisMORT

    I think Vannier worked with him on "L'homme a la tete de chou" too;

along with Michel Colombier, it was G's best collaboration

  • credit to the right genius, please... the composer, arranger and conductor of this piece is jean-claude vannier, and as so of ten, serge took the glory. serge was a poet, but these grrovy sounds come from the mind of JCV

  • 1:26 - 1:53 !!

  • fantastique! :-)

  • ça calme .....

  • this stuff is ahead of its time.

Does anyone know if this track is available (and some others with Vannier) on any compilation or something please?

  • @BistouflyTheGreat

  • I didn't know this song, amazing!!! Gainsbourg/Vannier is the best thing i've ever heard in France O_o

  • Gainsbourg delivers the soundtrack of being Normal in this ill world.

  • Where can I get a copy of this on cd?

  • love it ^^

  • This is one of the best songs I've heard in months! Did Gainsbourg collab with JC Vannier on anything else?

  • @Rambo29 Vannier did the arrangements for Gainsbourg's 'Histoire de Melody Nelson' album. It's spectacular; I assure that you'll love it.

  • @meczacy HOT!

  • Nice little sample from those shimmering vibes effects, used on Heltah Skeltah's "Prowl". Damn this song has infinite sample possibilities

  • Ceci est très fodástico!

  • fantastic Vannier tune. One of the very best soundtrack musician in France.

  • Thank you Jean-Claude. That is great. I love Serge, but was he even in the studio for this one?

  • @bloozmonkey111Fuck that, I'm gonna go solve some mysteries to this.

  • @bloozmonkey111

    nice

  • Qui! this iscertainment Hype ! According to post associated with Monsieur Gainsbourg his collaborator J.C.Vannier was a major force in a number of S.G.'s productions!

  • can someone please tell me where I can get the extended 50 hour loop? Seriously, I could listen to this song over and over again for days.

  • @filmfanatic99 just burn it on a cd and play on "repeat"... ;) Serge etait un génie...

  • @filmfanatic99 It's only available in a week-long loop.

  • Incredible soundtrack, in its own league...

? Merci beaucoup !

  • oh mu FUCKIN god! get those MPC's ready!!

  • Way too baaad to be so short!

  • Me like! Haha! Smoke...

  • so damn funky

  • ...Like A Train !!! :)

  • What I meant by 'equal billing' is twofold. He was told his name would appear on the cover of MN, but the label or someone didn't respect that. Also, take 'La Horse' and strip it from its components: there's not much of a song underneath. It's the arrangement that take it to where it now stands, a definite Vannier piece. I don't see how Gainsbourg had anything to do with it really.

  • Vannier should receive equal billing, if you ask me. The piece would make any sense without the incredible arrangement. I could listen (and I did) to it all day.

  • Damn straight

  • This track is awesome.

Jean-Claude Vannier was at Serge's side when he wrote the best albums and tracks of his carrier (especially Melody Nelson). Nowadays, some journalists pretend that Jean-Claude Vannier was much more than an arranger for Serge, but a real composer... And that Serge gave him money to be the only one written on the record...

  • Vannier's work was probably more important than Serge was admitting, but less important than he's personally claiming. Because, franckly, without Gainsbourg, his work ain't that brilliant. So?

  • 'L'enfant assassin des mouches' is a very good album: though not to everyone's taste, even Gainsbourg fans. He did write fantastic songs for and with others (Nougaro, Fontaine) and composed the music for 'La ballade de MN', which is the centerpiece of the album, some might say.

  • @alcohalls That would be obvious. Gainsbourg never produced or wrote the arrangements for his records.

He never played instruments on it too. He would sit at the piano, writing lyrics and music. Not more.

Very talented lyricist and songwriter. But half of his talent comes from his arrangers (which at that moment, means also producer) :

    Alain Goraguer

    Michel Colombier

    Arthur Greenslade

    Jean-Claude Vannier

When you think of Gainsbourg in the 60's and early 70's, always remember those names.

  • @niceanddestroyed generally I think of arrangers as unsung heroes because they don't get the credit they deserve. that said, no arranger can make a banal song sound good. a good song starts with good melody and good lyrics and that's what Serge was a master of. besides, there was a video of him trying to give an arranger a picture of the kind of arrangement he wanted for his song on piano. it's not like he left it all to them.

  • @niceanddestroyed thats true of everybody though Tony Visconti did all the hard work for T-Rex and Bowie

  • @franiron True

  • Serge Gainsbourg, Genius Father;

    Charlotte Gainsbourg, Genius Daughter.

  • Génial!

  • I'm not sure but i think Justice may have sampled this song.

  • it does sound familiar

i just can't quite put my finger on it...

i have to go listen to my Cross record again...

  • new jack or maybe genesis at 1:45

  • serge era um gênio.

  • is it just me or did dr dre sample this for one of the versions of murder was the case, hmm

  • The Horse - Sound Directions??

  • and thats from 1970! it's such modern what a great artist
