  • Reminds me of the drum n bass dance scene in the 90s if you aint drenched in sweat you aint doin it right!!

  • This inspires me :) I've always wanted to learn how to swing dance, now I want to even more!!

  • What is that move called at 2:52? I see a lot of partners do that during these showdowns.

  • @king140 The Dolphin? The Whale? Why does it need to have a name?

  • 14 DISlikes !?!? WTF !?!?

  • 0:43

  • For those who have commented on other Lindy videos about being sloppy should pay attention to the couple at 1:21 and 2:59. Incredible footwork.

  • 0:56 oh snap!

  • At 2:19, was he intending to do that? or was that accidental, cuz if that was an accident, he pulled it off verry well haha

  • it wasn't the last partner dance to exist in pop culture.

there was also: "the bop", steppin', and detroit ballroom...

  • @cheiktroure Pretty much all of those (and Carolina Shag and DC Hand Dancing) are all variations on East Coast Swing. I'll admit they are unique styles, just how West Coast Swing is an offshoot of Lindy Hop, and deserve to get recognized with their respective names, I wouldn't necessarily call them new dances. More like "evolved" dances.

That being said, these dances didn't have the same popularity as the swing dances of the 30s and 40s.

  • I want dance to Swing Dancing!

  • I want to do this

  • @serbfree swing dancing is mostly rooted in black culture. especially stuff like this. but yeah. woo white people!

  • Swing Dancing in general was definitly the last popular partnered (lead and follow) dance to exist in pop culture. There's been some argument that "The Twist" craze was the start of solo dancing in pop culture. Suddenly you could do a dance without taking any lessons or having any dance ability.

Swing dancing was also lost as pop music trends changed to R&B and Rock n' Roll. Although die-hards kept dancing Lindy, and it became West Coast Swing, it was generally lost on the public.

  • Lindy Hop is actually the fusion of african and european dancing. The dance originated in Harlem in the 1920s and the innovators of the dance were mostly black, but race wasn't an issue for the original Lindy Hoppers. The Savoy Ballroom, the home of happy feet, was not segregated, and blacks and whites danced with each other freely.

I will admit, though, that it's sad that this dance isn't embraced more by African Americans, but there are world class teachers that aren't in this video.

  • Love this. Crazy wicked.

  • F*** ME! I LOVE this!!!! :-D

  • Damned !! I luv it sooo sooo sooo much, whish i could do it as u guys !!!

  • which couple won this event?

  • todd and naomi, starting at 2.58. that footwork KILLS me!!

  • @maddygoboom Completely agree, The whole thing is cool and worth a couple of watches, but that footwork is the reason I've spent HOURS watching this video. Also the no-hand pancake at 1:28

  • Don't ever remove this, it's guaranteed to make me smile, whatever my mood. Brilliant!!

  • This is Art !!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing, i wish i could do half that stuff

  • that was awsome, the girls were so light and can jump like that, so cool OuO

  • Loved it!

I think the best pair was the guy with the red shirt/ girl purple shirt

    <3

  • Nick and Ria are awesome, huh?

  • wOw!

    I love Swing Dancing!!

  • Don't you mean . . .

    I love LINDY HOP?!

  • Nel wey!

Yo amo el fast swing dance!

    :)

  • who won? I bet it was either Naomi and Todd, or Nick Willams and Ria. Skye might have had a chance if he hadn't messed up his one aerial.

  • FYI... that's Dan Newsome, not Skye.

  • That's not Skye, find the medium tempo video from the same year and you'll see him. That's Dan Newsome.

  • i don't tire to wacth this video.. amazing

  • im a kid, and this is very interestin to me...but a move that would be cool, if they stand on top of there partner and act like that surfin them or sumth XD

  • I love it.

  • Please I would like to know where I could find this version of White Heat-by Wolverine Big band-album, year...Thanks

  • I don't think they ever recorded it. I do know the recorded a smokin' version of Jumpin' at the Woodside.

  • what song is this?

  • The song is a version of "White Heat" originally by Jimmie Lunceford.

  • I wish I could dance like that.

  • That move at 2:25 is worth copying. Not that I would ever copy anything. ;)

  • I know nothing about this, have never even taken a Lindy lesson, but if synchronization and mirroring between partners is a top priority, the couple at 3:00 was most impressive to me. And I've never seen feet move that fast on a dance floor. If I were judging, not knowing anything about what to look for, those two factors would tip the scale for me in their favor.

  • Competitions are based on the 3 T's: Timing, Technique, and Teamwork. There are also important aspects of showmanship and musicality that are critical to pushing one couple to first place over the others.

  • The Couple that starts at 1:56, SIMPLY THE BEST ONE!!!!

  • wow the guy in the red shirt messed up badddd

  • sorry can u tell me the name of the song? :)

  • I just found it!!! It's White Heat by Jimmy Lunceford!

  • wooow here in my little italian city they dont' teach swing dance :( that's a mess

  • I do feel like dancing!!! where can I learn to dance like that???

  • pease give me the name of the song or band

  • wow. that was great! almost as good as '06

  • That's F'IN AWESOMEEEE!!!!

  • bloody fantastic!!!!!!!! :)

  • 'effin brilliant!

  • brilliant !

  • If any of you ULHS dancers are in the Florida Keys, you need to come dance to our band!! We'll wear you out...

  • Awesome!!!!

  • To slow it needs speeding up a little.

  • hahahaha

    i said that myself

although, orange shirt man, and red shirt girl have REALLY fast feet - 3:00

  • All that enjoyment, and not a drink in sight! amazing!

  • What band is that playing?

  • this year was the Wolverine Big Band

  • oh how i love to swing dance!

  • woo hoo!

  • AWESOME

  • One word: Ouch.

    Two words: Friggin awesome.

  • Swing is plain fun ! And it's music from 70 years ago, guys!... Amazing, amazing!

  • that makes me wanna dance "SWING"..........

  • wow that looks hard. i know it is well of course it is but yeah

  • impressive all that jitter bug shit is tuff to learn. More of a east coast swing man myself.

  • At 2:34-2:36 The girl punches the guy. Is that a dance move? Or did she get mad at him? He looked pretty distraught. I am concerned....

  • She didn't punch him. He tried to do an aerial and something went wrong, that's why he looked distraught.

  • i think it was a mistake :)

  • mind blown

  • The men all look like they are on some serious heroin lol

  • whats thats songs name

  • Awesome.

  • That's freaking awesome. Soooo fast!

  • todd and naomi are the couple with the pants and if you watch carefully at 1:30 you can see her do pancake without using her hands on the ground.

  • Amazing!!

  • Sorry to tell Skunkman but swing dancing and savoy style lindy hop was around and doing this a loooong time before hip hop and breakdancing.

  • i think skunkman was just saying that the way people take turns showing what they can do in a circle like that is the original idea that was later borrowed by hip hop and breakdancers

  • gclott65

the couple with the girl in black pants with out a doubt are the best.the first couple not bad either.I would all so like to know who won.

  • lol THATis great. I prefer the footwork of the couple with the pants (girl with red shirt) to the fancy swings of the others.. :D

  • wow

  • divertidamente fantastico!

  • Oh, man. I wanna go to UHLS so bad some day.

Viva Minnesota and the rock stars who are awesome enough to start a comp when the others suck!

  • What is the song the band is playing?

  • Crazy and awesome!

  • Who won? All the couples are amazing, the first couple and the secong last couple are my favourite.

  • It looks like it was just a jam circle. That's the original form of a Hip-Hop/Breakdance Circle. They just jump in and show their shit. Btw, those aren't routines, they're making it up as they go along!

Swing dancers of the world - unite!

  • incredible. I will dance like that one day!!!

  • wow

  • Unbelievable! The footwork from the couple with the pants (girl in red shirt) is mind blowing!
