Frankly I wouldn't mind seeing the empire break up. We would all get a government more in line with our values in each region and we could drop the burden of being the world's policeman and fighting everybody else's battles for them. As a Southerner I would immediately advocate we reform the Southern states in a loose confederation as the Founders intended but keep some of the limitations on government found in the Confederate Constitution.
Nullification should be tried before resorting to extreme measure of secession. If we nullified unconstitutional laws we could protect our liberties while staying together as a nation.
We wouldn't even have to be think about secession if the federal government respected the constitutional rights of the states and the people, in particular those protected by Amendments IX and X.
We are Americans. We pledge loyalty to no Government. We are loyal to the people. I don't even fly an American flag because I am not it's property. I fly the rebel flag because it stands for being free and doing what's right, not what's good for your Government.

All we really need is to reduce the federal gov. by 90% & get our state sovrenty back. that would be better than secession. We should be the United (soverin) States of America. 99% of all laws should be state laws, so that if you do not like the laws in your state, you can move to another state. Federal law leaves the 49% minority with no choices.
The economic crisis is only temporary if those in power take the proper steps to fix it (namely by getting the hell out of the way). If they enact policies that will prolong the crisis, deepen it, and tax us to death at the same time, all the while completely ignoring states' rights, then secession is a much better option for those who actually care about the Constitution.
I do agree that the federal governments actions to solve the economy have hastened more debt causing more problems and lead me to call for them to cease their operations and let the economy fix itself. secession though only furthers debt given the fact so much of the economy is tied up nationally, if states were left alone to solve state debts we would go nowhere even faster. Secession is an extreme measure, and a right that every government in the US should lock away in an iron box and put that box under guard. It is a measure of last resort, the people's trump card to balance out the government's power. The Founding Fathers may have given birth to this nation out of secession, but they did not found it just so it could crumble away into a patchwork of tiny states.
I personaly think every state has the right to break away, but now would be the worst ever time with the war on terror hotter then ever and russia and china slowy building up we would be a sitting duck. The constitution is meaningless to the federal government. The big cities tell the rest of us what to do and how to live. The end may come sooner than everyone thinks. A country fails not by social issues. It fails because the economy collapses. The federal government only had three responsibilities, regulate the currency, negotiate trade agreements and defend the borders. They can't do any of those things. I predict if unemployment reaches 10-12% states will start to break away.

I'm a Northerner who believes the South had the right to secede. Remember, a few Northern states wanted to secede also but were afraid to because of their proximity.

Some are... maybe not an entire population... maybe everyone doesn't get to eat steak. States that control the food supply could possibly be self-sustained. I think people need to be careful with using "socialism" as a catch all term for all bad governments. There is a vast difference between Social Democracy and totalitarian Communism. There have also been plenty of horrible governments that were not remotely socialistic. People need to be cautious of any authoritarian government, not just socialist ones.
On another point, socialism is not always authoritarian. Fire departments, public schools, and public libraries are all facets of socialism.
The things you mention, such as fire departments and free public libraries, are only socialist in the incarnations you're familiar with. It's as if you suggest that nobody would be around to fight fires in the absence of coercive government. Around here, we have volunteer fire departments and there are even contract fire and rescue services.
But all socialism is inherently authoritarian. Socialism compels people to pay for it, if it's funded voluntarily it's not socialist.
Well socialism/communism is suppose to be where the people run the show. Not capitalist elites. Not centralized authoritarian governments. That's what socialism/communism originally was. Nowadays, it is used to describe nations who rely on centralized governments to get everything done. Even with that, it is not always a bad thing. Finland and Sweden for example are socialist countries but the standard of living, education system, and health care is top quality.
Socialism always requires some sort of central planning, which always leads to a ridiculously large and overpowering State. Economic calculation is impossible which is why socialism always fails, there is no real pricing system and resources are never allocated properly and investment is always distorted.
Many of our Southern organizations are rife with Confederate symbolism on their web pages and call for a free Southern nation. Note that I didn''t say restoration of the Confederacy. These organizations host many of our Southern elite as members. Note I didn''t say Confederate Statesmen or women.
Who are the "elite?"" They are men that have, by hook or crook, attained "success" in life.
I urge you to read everything you can about the organizations you hold membership in. If that organization doesn''t espouse the restoration of the Confederacy, withdraw from that organization because it is rigged to maintain the status quo and act as a relief valve for the union. If the organization advocates Southern Nationalism, it is advocating for a carbon copy of the union or worse.
First, their intent appears to be to stop, foil, confuse and confound any effort to restore a Southern Nation in Dixie called the CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA (CSA) and create as much dissension as possible among the various Confederate organizations. Their stated desire is to create for themselves a Southern Nation in Dixie they call the Confederation of Southern States (CSS) which will be similar to that Federalist government in Washington, D.C. only with a Southern flavor.
I advocate for a southern nation consisting of the 13 original colonies and in addition all confederate territories. But I believe in limited government. Or no government, just an understanding within communities.
I would say try to reclaim your country first and if that doesn't work, then i guess there won't be a much better solution. But a lot of people are waking up and this process will keep accelerating so it's still possible to get the US back on the right track.
But let's say you do separate and the rest of the US keeps going down this globalist/totalitarian path do you think they'll leave you alone?

Frankly I wouldn't mind seeing the empire break up. We would all get a government more in line with our values in each region and we could drop the burden of being the world's policeman and fighting everybody else's battles for them. As a Southerner I would immediately advocate we reform the Southern states in a loose confederation as the Founders intended but keep some of the limitations on government found in the Confederate Constitution.

The gov't we have right now to be honest for the most part is ok, yes there are some major changes that need to be made like regulating the banks and getting tariffs and also raising taxes on the rich.

I agree there are more bigger problems but one way or another you have to have a fairly strong government. A weak gov't is pointless and can't even protect it's people.
That's one of the big reasons the articles of confederation were done away with and the Constitution replaced it.

I do agree that the federal governments actions to solve the economy have hastened more debt causing more problems and lead me to call for them to cease their operations and let the economy fix itself. secession though only furthers debt given the fact so much of the economy is tied up nationally, if states were left alone to solve state debts we would go nowhere even faster. I'm with you that the Feds violation of the Constitution is wrong but I would call for impeachment before secession.

I don't think so. Yankee was what the Dutch called English colonials in the 1600s, to dub them Land Pirates. Also, to say they weren't recognized.. it took an extremely bloody war for the thirteen colonies to be recongized as independant countries.
Also, America was not universally hated until we started messing with other people's shit. The South was against all of this in up until the late 1970s.

Oh i see your a fan of ron paul, yeah i met him at our GOP convention convention in my district and i read his book. The campign he ran for congress was almost criminal, two days before the primary memebers from his campign were aressted for destroying and takeing yard signs from his oppenent. Secession is an extreme measure, and a right that every government in the US should lock away in an iron box and put that box under guard. It is a measure of last resort, the people's trump card to balance out the government's power. The Founding Fathers may have given birth to this nation out of secession, but they did not found it just so it could crumble away into a patchwork of tiny states.

The constitution is meaningless to the federal government. The big cities tell the rest of us what to do and how to live. The end may come sooner than everyone thinks. A country fails not by social issues. It fails because the economy collapses. The federal government only had three responsibilities, regulate the currency, negotiate trade agreements and defend the borders. They can't do any of those things. I predict if unemployment reaches 10-12% states will start to break away.

This is a very good video. And your observations are very cogent I think. Democracy, even a republican form of government might have an upper limit. How do you have a polis with billions of people? How do you have a multi-cultural polis? I don't guess many people today give much thought to the fact that the prototype of democracy we are taught we came from was only a city-state.

I only think Secession would work if there was still freedom of movement and trade between the US states. Maybe the US could split up and become more like the EU. An organisation with individual parties but under an organisation that allowed freedom of movement and trade between the parties.

People who say that are basing it off of food and clean water, and raw materials needs to actually SUSTAIN human life... not improve the quality of life. Oil improves the quality of life. That is a good point but the point of my argument was... no one area has enough resourses to be truely be "sustainable". It's an empty phrase. And yes, oil can be concidered a luxury BUT... you do need it to transport food and stuff. It is rather important to sustain life also.

you don't necessarily need oil to transport food... but it's the most effective way, by far. I was just pointing out that some states are capable of sustaining basic needs. That's just true. Some are... maybe not an entire population... maybe everyone doesn't get to eat steak. States that control the food supply could possibly be self-sustained. Just not everyone will get to be sustained.

It would be very hard to take over a country with strong state militias; each would need to be fought and defeated to conquer the North American continent.
I always thought the South should have been able to secede. Perhaps we would not now have this overgrown criminal government we have.
And perhaps there will be many secessions due to secession because of economics.

This is all intellectual argument. There ia ZERO chance of any successionist movement gaining any credibility, especially at the State level. None of those people want to torpedo their own careers.
As for the mounting movement away from conservatism, it is obvious the electorate will not look away from the big party, big power political machinery of the two parties. Combine that with everyone's instinct to just keep their heads down, get to work, and survive - what you've got is no change.

I think people need to be careful with using "socialism" as a catch all term for all bad governments. There is a vast difference between Social Democracy and totalitarian Communism. There have also been plenty of horrible governments that were not remotely socialistic. People need to be cautious of any authoritarian government, not just socialist ones.
On another point, socialism is not always authoritarian. Fire departments, public schools, and public libraries are all facets of socialism.

The things you mention, such as fire departments and free public libraries, are only socialist in the incarnations you're familiar with. It's as if you suggest that nobody would be around to fight fires in the absence of coercive government. Around here, we have volunteer fire departments and there are even contract fire and rescue services.
But all socialism is inherently authoritarian. Socialism compels people to pay for it, if it's funded voluntarily it's not socialist.

Well socialism/communism is suppose to be where the people run the show. Not capitalist elites. Not centralized authoritarian governments. That's what socialism/communism originally was. Nowadays, it is used to describe nations who rely on centralized governments to get everything done. Even with that, it is not always a bad thing. Finland and Sweden for example are socialist countries but the standard of living, education system, and health care is top quality.

Socialism always requires some sort of central planning, which always leads to a ridiculously large and overpowering State. Economic calculation is impossible which is why socialism always fails, there is no real pricing system and resources are never allocated properly and investment is always distorted.

If that organization doesn''t espouse the restoration of the Confederacy, withdraw from that organization because it is rigged to maintain the status quo and act as a relief valve for the union. I would say try to reclaim your country first and if that doesn't work, then i guess there won't be a much better solution. But a lot of people are waking up and this process will keep accelerating so it's still possible to get the US back on the right track.
