at least he does something instead of just standing there like a robot when your name gets introduced, which is actually entertaining to watch. but he does have a funny face no doubt about that.

Well....thats life .the new will replace the old. The main point is i love to see the attitude or Hoogie and Popov..though they are rivals..they so respect each other and seeing them talking at the end of almost every swim/ finals shows that they share a respectable rivalry. Nowadays rivalry sometimes lurks at the verge of enmity..which is sad.
Van Den Hoogenband is no match for current breed of young swimmers. In the Beijing Olympics, he got "trashed" by Alain Bernard and Eamon Sullivan. Hoogenband's best time and world record is a far cry from the WR set by Eamon Sullivan and gold medallist Alain Bernard. Jason Lezak which came in 3rd in the 100m freestyle was also quicker than Van Den Hoogenband's previous WR.
You must be a 12 year old kid resorting to this sort of low-class response. Some day there will be a new generation of swimmers surpassing Sullivan or Bernard's performance but what I have written are facts and nobody can deny that. Hoogenband is clearly out of contention in this new era of young generation sensations like Bernard and Sullivan. The verdict is clear from everyone to judge, and you are an idiot to contradict that.
JA! do you think you're very clever by saying the obvious you retard? of course Hoogie's prime passed thats why he retired genius, i wonder how did you reach such a state of clarity?. Do you know the definition of ignorance, its somebody whit a smartass attitude but in reality doesnt know SHIT, like yourself
You are spewing nonsense again which is so synonymous with your style. Again your response proves nothing but nonsensical crude remarks. It is obvious you cannot accept the fact that Hoogenband is outclassed by a field of new generation swimmers. You are stupid not to realize that you have agreed with my point in Hoogenband's prime has passed and is now retired. That is because he cannot match the new breed of swimmers anymore. Hoogenband has said this himself in an interview after the Olympics
Hoogenband participated in the Beijing Olympics hoping to retain his title but eventually finished out of the medal contention and didn't go onto the podium. He was a great swimmer in the past but he's now overshadowed by the emergence of a new force in Sullivan and Bernard. It's not only Hoogenband but former greats such as Popov as well.
I still don't understand what is your problem here in showing inconsistency in your remarks. You actually contradict yourself in your own statement.
Popov, Hoogie and Klim are great 100mfr swimmers and best of all....they are all quite close together.. and respecet one another....Hoogie and Popov are very good to each other.
However in the 2000 Games, its not Klim who had the last laugh...its Hoogie..coz the relay was raced earlier...Klim broke Popov WR in the relay...and few days after that, Hoogie broke that in the semi with the sub 48 and eventually won the final. The three of them are great.
carlitos1009 you need to watch the video again. Popov wore the same type pants Hall did and also wore a cap. Yes, he is great, but your facts were off.
man you wrong, at this olympic games popov did not wear long legs suit. he was wearing normal swim suit and no cap. So go ahead and watch video again.
Man....if u look earlier in the video, when they introduce the swimmer, u can see that Popov is not on long trunk...miles of skins on those thighs...!!!
Hi there...I don't want to argue, but I clearly see that Alexarder Popov didn't wear long trunks and cap. He swam in line three. Check minute 2:55 and you'll see. Also when they are swimming under water you can see that he is swimming with a regular swmming suit and no cap. Popov was good. He did not, but for me, he and Klim were very charismatic swimmers.
Michael Klim doesn't use a cap either, and he did the WR on this event (100 freestyle, 1st leg in the 4x100 relay) hehehe. Agree, Popov is an amazing swimmer but your facts are a little off.
I also liked Klim... both were great swimmers... ahh, and yes, I know Klim did the WR in the relay. He was awesome, and his underwater technique was excellent. It's a shame he was 4th in the 100 mts fresstyle. I would've loved seeing him in the podium.

clearly no cap and no long trunks on Popov. Just freeze it at 2:55 and Lane 3 swimmer is clearly a capless Popov.
