The main point is i love to see the attitude or Hoogie and Popov..though they are rivals..they so respect each other and seeing them talking at the end of almost every swim/ finals shows that they share a respectable rivalry. Nowadays rivalry sometimes lurks at the verge of enmity..which is sad.

Van Den Hoogenband is no match for current breed of young swimmers. In the Beijing Olympics, he got "trashed" by Alain Bernard and Eamon Sullivan. Hoogenband's best time and world record is a far cry from the WR set by Eamon Sullivan and gold medallist Alain Bernard. Jason Lezak which came in 3rd in the 100m freestyle was also quicker than Van Den Hoogenband's previous WR.

Hoogenband participated in the Beijing Olympics hoping to retain his title but eventually finished out of the medal contention and didn't go onto the podium. He was a great swimmer in the past but he's now overshadowed by the emergence of a new force in Sullivan and Bernard. It's not only Hoogenband but former greats such as Popov as well.

Popov, Hoogie and Klim are great 100mfr swimmers and best of all....they are all quite close together.. and respecet one another....Hoogie and Popov are very good to each other.

However in the 2000 Games, its not Klim who had the last laugh...its Hoogie..coz the relay was raced earlier...Klim broke Popov WR in the relay...and few days after that, Hoogie broke that in the semi with the sub 48 and eventually won the final. The three of them are great.

Hi there...I don't want to argue, but I clearly see that Alexarder Popov didn't wear long trunks and cap. He swam in line three. Check minute 2:55 and you'll see. Also when they are swimming under water you can see that he is swimming with a regular swmming suit and no cap. Popov was good. He did not, but for me, he and Klim were very charismatic swimmers.

Michael Klim doesn't use a cap either, and he did the WR on this event (100 freestyle, 1st leg in the 4x100 relay) hehehe. Agree, Popov is an amazing swimmer but your facts are a little off.

I also liked Klim... both were great swimmers... ahh, and yes, I know Klim did the WR in the relay. He was awesome, and his underwater technique was excellent. It's a shame he was 4th in the 100 mts fresstyle. I would've loved seeing him in the podium.
