That was outstanding!! Beautiful playing and that kit sounds incredible! That is so refreshing to hear a guy play like that.....Classy, tasteful, drumming!!!! Krupa would be proud!
This guy is very very good and I respect him. However, Steve Taddeo gets closer to Gene's greatness. I knew Gene Krupa and he was the kindest, nicest person you would ever want to meet! I was really lucky. I miss him.
Thanks for you comments. If your lucky enough to have a "POPS" that also plays drums, you are blessed!!! I hope you both have a chance to duet together, Say hello for me !! AvB
thanks. you stopped me in my tracks with "lucky enough" comment. that was awesome. yeah, he has a '60 Gretsch Silver Sparkle. but i can't find a floor tom that matches. thanks again. i have noticed that "traditional grip" really lets you do some sick stuff. love it!
Why is this often refered to as 'old form/style' drumming I wonder. This is just 'a' style of drumming, one of which I have to say is highly stylised and whats more, not the least bit easy to get correct .This guy plays this style as well as anyone I have ever seen. One question. Are they calf heads being played here? They certainly sound like it.I play the same kit except in BDP finish plus calf heads throughout , aluminium cloud early 40's era.Best drums ever produced by a mile.More please!
Those are all calf skin heads except the snare which is Aquarian vintage. The calf heads are all ORIGINAL with Radio King logo!! If you have any, wash them iin warm soapy water -cool rinse water let dry some and finish drying on the drum shell. When totally dry ,rub small amount of leather fat into the playing surface.Thats how they stay playable and dont crack after 50 years!!The KRUPA stye took years of study, In the Gene Krupa Story,Musical play some 35 original charts.
Holy Smoke!! I saw this guy in concert with his swing orchestra and he blew the roof off the place!!! Its the closest living demo of Gene Krupa possible. .......Check him out!!
nice job........nice vintage slings too! I like how your playing that old form of drumming....it's good for other drummers to see how Krupa played back in the day. thanks Pete.

Great Radio Kings and a great drummer.A wonderful recreation of Genes playing during the late 30's early 40's.

Being a Krupa fan and knowing his sound, this is just another sloppy amatuer. Do i have to play the drums to be able to hear drums?
