  • "He's like totally orsum!!! He'll like just totally present a like philosophical concept, LOL, sooooo kewl!!" Honey, you just made sure I never read Neal Stephenson...

  • i dont believe shes a fan.i,d prefer if she did a striptease..

  • His books serve the same role as sport and entertainment do for corporate employees, just like a passage from his book read.

  • Great passages! But I like Snow Crash and Diamond Age best.

  • Excellent passages!

  • i can't hear anything but her boobs.

    pg nr, plz?

  • I was always a fan of the passage from quicksilver after Issac and Daniel had been conducting the needle experiment. something along the lines "by the next morning Daniel knew more about the human eye than anyone who had ever lived, save Issac. The experiment could have been performed by anyone. Only one person had actually done it."

  • I meant the Anathem passage. He often gives me the willies when discussing race. Borderline TeaBagger shit. "Why can't all of our differences be ignored? Why is talking about race automatically racist?" The only people saying that are White, meaning they feel race shouldn't be important. Try telling that to the Irish or Chinese or whomever. Race matters and being proud of it isn't isolating; it's impowering. That is, as long as a White person doesn't feel challenged by it.

  • OMG I just dog-eared that passage myself. I've re-read it several times. Sad but brilliant.

  • "It don't give when i mash it!"

  • Cyberpunk!

  • My absolute favorite passage by Stephenson is from the Baroque cycle (though I can't remember which book exactly) when Jack rides towards Paris, but slowly loses his mind. The slow slip into the madness is amazingly orchestrated. Literally.

  • sometimes when i jerk off some shit leaks from my dirty aids hole - suck me , pm me for more, and im gay. wow, fuck you racist. heh ;) :D good video

  • me too

  • I have wood

  • It's great to see someone who loves this author as much as I do! I still often think about Anathem, and I read it soon after it came out - the philosophy in there is relevant to so many issues.

  • The Diamond Age is a book I keep coming back to. No, wait... Cryptonomicon.

  • The Diamond Age is a book I keep coming back to.

  • Wow, the anathem quote was one of my favorite passages too.

  • "The LIBERAL government told them as much"--when you follow liberalism, you find many contradictions and ideals that just don't work. Liberalism is an unworkable attitude. Only failure will follow. It is a warm and comfy place to be if it would work, but it has never worked in history, and it is not working now--look at Obama's plight.

  • @jmshaw357 -Look at bush's plight.

  • Hot baba.

  • @timbosforporn , you are partially right.

It's BECAUSE of people like you, people who jump to a conclusion about the speaker's intent, without all the facts, that she felt compelled to preface that quote.

Your comment reflects your racism. If a black character says it, no problem. If a white person says it, she's racist.

  • Thanks for your suggestion, I will definitely give it a try!

  • How can you be this detailed oriented and totally get it wrong about your biofilter for water? wow??????

  • Nice Wifebeater Tank Top :-)

  • I loved the second political quote enough to put Neal into my "Authors to purchase from" list. Thanks Lori.

  • gracias por el la recomendación, siempre e querido lee un buen libro pero nunca lo e comprado, ha, ,, algún día boya leer mi primer libro ha

  • My buddy loved Stephenson in high school. Maybe I should check him out.

  • I met this chick on the subway.

  • She said "problem" hahaha

    She also said "stick"

  • Olaf Stapledon....I say no more...but I will check this cat out that you love so much. Thanks for being so thoughtful!

  • you are a most curious entity, Lori....

  • Loved Snow Crash. His vision of a dystopia was so much more realistic than Orwell's or Huxley's.

  • Ok so...

The problem you have working in an office, is because you would need a position of significance?

If so, isn't that everybody's problem? To work towards that position?

I do need to start reading again, thanks.

  • i might check out the Diamond Age.. i'm in for an acid trip XD

  • 1:02 Hot Damn, I'm in love with the Librarian!

  • Hey! Lori its nice to see you hit the books again, last time you did, it was the reason I ended up on these You Tubes ,it was back in 2007 when you did [Tribute to Kurt Vonnegut] & I wanted to give you 5 stars ...bingo I had to create an account, its all your fault :-)

I think you may like a book called [Barbarians to Bureaucrats: Corporate Life Cycle Strategies] although it’s written a bit dry-ish for most ladies taste but you are not the most

You think you are cynical now? Just wait....

    Gaus

  • He is truly an amazing author and must be able to write in his sleep to be so prolific!

  • why is it when speak for an african amreican you sound mean

  • Diamond Age

    or

    A Young Ladies Primer,

Is one of the best books I've ever read. Shows for still remembering it.

  • I want to merry with you! I mean not precisely now, but you are the perfect woman. Smart, sharp and very beautiful

  • @ahuachapan2 Why wait? She's obviously a catch so propose now, don't let her get away.

  • on of my favorite books is The Transall Saga by Gary Paulsen

  • In a nutshell: For thousands of years people farmed and hunted their own food and built their own houses. They didn't need to pay anyone for anything to live of off what God gave. Then one day, a certain greedy individual wanted more power and wealth beyond what God provided. He made himself king and began to use violence and intimidation to threaten farmers to give him tribute or be killed. This was the beginning of government , "the system" or civilization or whatever you want to call it.

  • @kredit787 That's not even good fiction.

  • My summer project has been to read The Baroque Cycle. Great stuff! Crazy cool to hear The Resident talk about Stephenson :D

  • Some people can really wear glasses - yes, I can see Craig Ferguson saying you have the "naughty librarian" look going here. ^_^

  • cool.

  • Her shirt sucks.

  • @KillJesus Dick

  • Sounds groovy. I've always been interested in reading something by Stephenson but haven't had the balls to invest my time in one of his large books. You have persuaded me to give one a try. This video makes me happy.

  • please visit us at Saudi arabia !! I will be your host ; you will love it for sure . Please say yes

  • Keep your voice down in the library!

  • I've sold some copies of Anathem. The worst part of the job is that I'm surrounded by thousands of books at work, but we aren't allowed to read any of them.

  • Neal Stephenson? good choice. As a complete nerd, Snow Crash is my favorite.

  • Sounds like Mr. Stephenson is well acquainted with Frederick Taylor and his work, "The Principles of Scientific Management". I'll put Neal on the "to-do" list without a second to waste!

  • I love the part about the corporate jisms.

  • What I'm reading now:

The Rockefeller File, by Gary Allen.

It's all about the family that started America's biggest (and legal) mafia, that today continues in the form of the CFR and the banking cartel.

  • Snow Crash ftw!

  • There's no prescription lenses in those glasses, right Rez?

  • I just had a flash back to my childhood show "Reading Rainbow" . lol

  • will you read them to me as we fall asleep for the night?

  • Ah I love u resident! You're a woman of my heart (in a platonic sense ofcourse)

I love ur devotion to philosophy

  • Hello,Lori.

Reading is good, but trying to turn down the corner of a page on a kindle or some such reader, may void the warranty...

  • You are beautiful with your glasses on!

Best video in my book. Do this some more.

  • The outfit looks awesome! :3

  • I love Cryptonomicon.

  • You look so much prettier with glasses.

(sorry, that's a left-handed compliment, but I'll let it stand because it was my first thought when I watched this video) remember, only in Hollywood does wearing glasses make you ugly

  • I will. I already read Plato and Sokrates. Also interesting.

  • why mohamad rape his own aunt?

  • Lori what is this "Hey People" I thought all of us has been your friends for a while. lol Ok so you don't like us any more I understand. :-( I don't know whether to give you a thumbs up or down. Hmmmmm. Thumbs up for such a great video about a great Aurthur.:-) that is the way you spell Aurthur isn't it? my bad

  • Hi Lori,

thanks for picking up one of my favourite authors.

Currently I've read "Cryptonomicon" and started with the Baroque Cycle ("Quicksilver") in last years December.

Neal understands to blend fiction and facts.

One can learn a lot about history as well as getting acquainted with new ideas while he skilfully weaves in new ideas.

Sometimes I thought about how life would have been, if destiny took some other ways at some stage...

    Joe.

  • I can't even fathom reading a 3000 page book! Props to The Resident for being such a book fiend.

  • @chungdanield You just have to start. These books are so great, that they carry you away in a blink and you don't even realise, that it's 4 a.m. already.

    Trust me.

    Joe.

  • @joecounter Definitely know what you mean. I was always lost in a book or three probably until I got into college. Now I'm 22, and I've reduced my texual input to short web snippets and headlines. :(. Thanks Mr. Counter for the encouragement!

  • @chungdanield You are welcome, my friend.

But don't let your studies slip... :)

    Joe.

  • I boobmarked this video. Intelligent and informative absolutely sexy as well!

  • nice

  • He's been my favorite author since 1993. I'm so glad you made this video. You could talk about the Waterhouse family, the Shaftoe family across the books. Daniel Waterhouse and Jack Shaftoe are more real to me than my neighbors. You should caution people that they will need to keep a good dictionary close by.

  • sounds like a genieous :)

  • i love you

  • Snow Crash was a great book.

  • @Anom565 "POOR IMPULSE CONTROL" I still laugh about that.

  • @Anom565 It's awesome, love it.

  • I'll keep the name in mind.

  • Nice Library, ma'am. Thanks, Lori, I'll check him out.

  • The pushing up of the reading glasses was a special element in your presentation. I actually chuckled. It's a good moment. Read on! Books are such treasures. Peace!

  • @Twostones00 Yes, glasses = smart, listen to me, right? haha

  • @theresident You would look out of place in the library without the "librarian glasses".

  • I loved Cryptonomicon

And what's with people in this country--somehow they seem to have gotten it into their heads that they have the right to never be offended. If free speech and the free exchange of ideas are working properly, everyone is pretty much guaranteed to be offended by something eventually. And the narrower your views, the more likely it is to happen.

  • welcome to my library? that was cute, mote like "welcome to my chroma key"

  • @CombustTheChronic more like

  • Neal Stephenson brings a whole bunch of new angles that "regular" people don't see (or perhaps they do NOT want to see). And it should be that way: you and I want our children to live in a peaceful society. But we should also teach future generations WHY things came to be. "Why" is a powerful form of knowledge (and if you have seem the Merovingian's speech in the 2nd Matrix movie, you will know what I am talking about). The big problem is that our history is in the gray area...

  • ...between truth and lies, myths, false stories, religion, etc. And unless we finally get rid of all the BS that we have today, we are destined to be destroyed by ourselves (like many times before). Resident, I believe you are smart enough to know that the last passage that you read is half-true: it is probably true that there is a lot of injustice of many forms around the world. But what you must realize and come to understand is the hard-truth that took me years to accept:...

  • THE PEOPLE THEMSELVES, ULTIMATELY, CHOSE TO LIVE THE WAY THEY DO (with only a few exceptional people openly objecting to the "system", be it failures who blame others for their mistakes or honest people trying to come out on top...the latter are those written in history books). For example, when you think "Africa" you might think starving & poor people. However, you never question yourself, "why?", do you? (Remember the power of why). Find out the true reason as to why they got that way...

  • ...and it will shock you.

The point is...if you see someone hurting from a gunshot wound, don't immediately think he was getting robbed or assaulted. Chances are, he or she WAS the one doing the robbing or assaulting and the latter has been found to be the case nine times out of ten. That is why I have lost faith and respect on the US Constitution: it is, nowdays, nothing more than a piece of paper that should be used for the toilet. No one respects it, especially our so-called leaders.

  • Amazingly insightful quote about "stories".

  • A book?.... what the hell is that?!.... Must be some kind of 17th or 18th century technology.

  • @kenne210 Withour books man would still be in primitive states. So some respect to our paperback and hardback friends please!! I know you might have thousands of e-books., so do I, (i might have 100.000 pdfs last time I ckecked), but real books are real books.

  • @Neueregel I know... I was just giving Lori a hard time. XD

  • Comment removed
