Wrapping the strings over the tailpiece does not lesson the tension on the strings. Tuning to pitch requires the same tension on the string to bring it in tune. By wrapping the strings it does 3 things, 1) you can drop the stop bar down to the body which will creat more sustain 2) more string length = less effort to bend 3) less degree of angle from saddle to stop bar. Or, machine (purchase) spacers for under the saddle mounting bolts for solid contact to the body = more sustain.
What's going on with the saddles? Are those GraphTec on the top three strings and steel on the bottom 3? I'd actually thought of trying that once (best of both worlds) but talked myself out of it :(
@nikgottheblues nah, no he wouldnt. joe's a full on guitar nerd. he'd just be stoaked someone digs his guitar enough to buy it. we talked about it when i met him briefly. he seems to really get a kick out of the idea that he even has a sig. really humble guy, he wouldnt be bothered at all.
@Savatage420 That's how Joe does it, strings over the tailpiece. By doing this it lessens the tension on the strings and makes 11 gage strings feel like 10 gage strings and makes bending the strings a bit easier. He got the idea from Jimmy Page and Billy Gibbons.
@blitzistephens The strings over the bridge do nothing to improve sustain. It only relieves the tension on the strings. Sustain come from the type of strings being used. Larger gauge strings boost volume and sustain. The thicker the string is, the thicker the tone is. That's why Joe uses 11 gage strings, but thanks for the info.
Billy Gibbons? Damn, he uses .008s with a .007 high E, so thats extra light strings on a shorter scale, plus top wrapping, damn, there must be zero tension on his strings.
It's sick how he captures the Beauty of the guitar without adding a Curly, Flamed, Quilted, AAA Maple top on it. It just has a normal maple top or it is just pure mahogany!
That burst looks beautiful with the hardware (Pickup rings, pups covers, knobs, washer, toggle cap, tuners, T.o.M, Tailpiece...)
"R" might stand for "rhythm" and "T" for treble. Usually Burstbuckers are paired with a low output neck and moderate output bridge. Unless this guitar comes with coil tap.
Maybe it stands for Rhythm and Treble?

No, he's right. Rhythm and treble. Well done that man.

Jonwsm 1 month ago
I believe r is rhythm, as in the neck pickup, and t is treble, the bridge pickup haha

On the Gibson humbuckers; the R = Rhytm and the T = Treble. Refering to the togle switch position

@MannyBlue65 it does lessen the tension, but it definitely doesn't make it feel like a whole string gauge down.
It's a pretty subtle difference...

@MannyBlue65 how does it lessen tension?
Guitardude81597 4 months ago
@MannyBlue65 Also increases contact with the body and makes for better sustain and tone.
