@mrduffy1100 don't be a fool. An arresting platform hook which slides down th runway which the aircraft could hook onto and then the platform is slowly brought to a hault. It not impossible.

@mrduffy1100 OR design equipment that doesn't fail. Its interesting fact that even thought things are high tech they can still fail. COmputers and electronical equipment is always fucking at some point.

@210482fmj always a trade off at some point though, planes as you know are complex, the main systems are often triplicate. The plane still has too make a profit, and so literally building it like a tank procludes making any money flying it in the first place.

poor maintenence,(which is a big big problem, especially in former Soviet aircraft), is usually the cause, parts wear out. Aeroflot is banned from Europe or restricted, or something.

@mrduffy1100 Unfortunatly crashes will always be a factor of aviation but you usually only get between 1 and 5 a year in commercial airliners and sometimes none at all

@berserker1776 tower did know the plane kept circulating around the airport for an hour then it dumped all its fuel while the runway was filled with special material designed for such landings
