Horowitz 's playing shows he knows Mozart. As the other guy ssaid, Horowit'z articulation made a big difference . The orchestra 's playing is excellent too, though not as vivacious as the pianist.
It sounds as if he is thumping a lot in the left hand. I had to stop listening. It could be the recording. When it is loud the sound seams to overload the microphone. I think the recording level needs to be reduced.
Don't know. But I can tell you it is a Deutsche Grammophon CD 423 287-2, from 1987. I love to put it in the boombox of my 1963 Fod Galaxy convertible and blast it as I drive down the uncultured byways of LA where idiots roam but I hope to edicate them.
can you imagine. Mozart just imagined this hard classical music on his head without any instrument in front of him, and then he just wrote it. what a GENIUS composer...
Talking about trying this piece myself, I would have to practice a lot!:) This piece is not easy for me at all! The reason why I "criticize" (well you said so right?) this genius was that I love this concerto, and have listened to a variety of versions by different pianists. Horowitz's is not my favorite, but anyway, I love him a lot!
I did not say he would play Beethoven "pianissimo" like you have assumed. In my opinion, Horowitz is a great master, I love him and admire the way he interprets romantic music. There are days when I spend hours listening to his recordings of Chopin's works. His technique and emotion are beyond comparison.
However, what I mean was that I would love it much more if he plays some certain chords more lightly, eg. at 1:31. For this piece I prefer the version of Pletnev's.

I guess if her were playing Beethoven you would say he is a bit too "pianissimo"! How easily we are to criticize-try playing this yourself and see how well you can play it!
I cannot stop watching this video! The song is very graceful and his playing is just incredible. Would his hand movements have to do anything with the "Mozart Effect" or is it
Horowitz had a way of making the piano sound like an orchestra. His sound was beyond belief as was his musical flow.I was fortunate enough to have seen him live one time, and it was easily the finest concert in my lifetime. To just refer to him as a poet of the piano does not do him justice. Bravo!
jaaj, sorry Cleopatra11, I didn't mean of course what I wrote; i meant that it was A unique characteristic of Mozart's music, did't mean of course that it was the only characteristic
jaja, that's the thing about mozart's music, it makes all the people around happy and make them just have agood time, that's the UNIQUE characteristic in mozart's music, and it's proved here
does anybody know where i can get the sheet music for this ???

but mozart has had a very very good ear, he transcripted a 6 voice mottetto just listening to it :)

True- but if you look closely at pure facts, you'll figure that he probably had about 160 IQ.

Because this is the video for a studio recording. You don't really play the dynamics the same way.

I love Horowitz but... I think he is more suitable to the Romantic era than the Classical era. This is a bit too "forte" for Mozart.

I think this is Horowitz's last concerto recording. Clearly having the time of his life with conductor Guilini whom he knew he could work with.
