  • Of what wood is your staff comprised ?

  • bamboo

  • two words. beautiful and spiritual. :)

  • i have 9mm comeon bro

  • lol before insult please demonstrate that you can do better. If u cant, please shut the fuck up

  • awsome skills... ppl who criticise hime should try atleast to swing the stick then u'll know how hard it is...

  • I am most interested in the tree with red leaves featured toward the end of this video. Can someone tell me the name of this tree? Must have it in my garden.

  • no martial arts date back earliest to africa and egypt

  • I read the recent comments above and quite please with the debates.

I train in many styles of ma, including, shoalin, san shuo, karate, tae kwon do, aikdo, mauy thai and kickboxing. From experience thought they are different styles are all have similarities!

So it's really hard to say where martial arts soley originated from, some say china, some india ever spectualtions of being from africa!

(of course kick boxing is modern so obviously out of the equation)

  • But sufficient to say I don't think a sole culture was responsible.

It's within human nature to defend ourselves.

And I believe in ancient history, countries have independently developed their own fighting system, and in historical events travelled and shared and swapped cultures and taken influences from another, some martial arts are even lost in time and history. Entire empires can be lost, so why not martial arts?

  • It's really hard to say where ma "originated" from, but I personally think India may have brought some aspects to china, China already having some aspects of their own learnt from that and developed to what is now the huge kung fu system. Coz these staff forms remind me alot of the shoalin staff styles, which they might have developed from this.

  • In respects I think all countries have their own martial arts in past and present, like the ancient greeks, persian all had their own fighting systems too.

It's within human nature to defend. It's just some systems survive through history and date well better than others leading them to be more well known and believe to be the first.

But what matters it's not who is the first, but who be an martial artist u must be open minded.

  • Thank you for speaking the truth about martial arts.

  • All Martial Arts originated in Himalayas. 5 groups were formed which migrated in ancient times. 1) East Asia 2) South Asia including India 3) West Asia 4) North Asia 5) Africa

  • actually martial arts began in china long before boddidharma or the shaolin ever came to the picture. It's even doubtful if Boddidharma even knew martial arts. He did taught the chinese monks breathing exercises and some form of yoga.

The Shaolin is overrated, they're not even that ancient to begin with. It's highly likely that the shaolin arts were brought in by ex-military men who became monks.

  • you might be rite, but look up the movie bodhidharma founder of shaolin kungfu on youtube. Interesting movie.

  • Shaolin Kung Fu are not the oldest. though they are highly rated, Shaolin Kung Fu was also said to be / related to indian martial art. Because shaolin temple really started kung fu practices with the came of Monk called... Datmo?

    Am i right?

  • no, bodhidharma

  • I like to see some Adithada clips. I heard it's similar to Muay Boran.

  • Yeap in Adithada they also use elbows and knees for striking an opponent. Lot of Indians think that they only have Kalaripayatt but in actual fact just about every state has their own martial art this may also depend what school of martial arts it is as well. I noticed many of the South East Asian styles seem quite similar to Indian martial arts than the Chinese system.

  • Are you Indian by any chance?

  • Nope Lankan the only martial arts I've done is taekwon do. I only recently discovered about three years ago that Indians have a long tradition of a structured martial arts stretching back for over 3000 years. Since then I've taken an interest in reading up on martial arts around South Asia.

  • adithada is a sri lankan martial art

ramnayanan is a story about an old epic battle that took place in sri lanka, and which is how tamils arrived in the north and the east of the country

adithada was brought to thailand laos and cambodia by a the tamil empire, cholas which also had presence in sri lanka

  • Adithada wasn't brought to thailand. Muay thai developed from Krabi Krabong/Muay Boran and was also heavily influenced by burmese boxing.

  • Sri Lankans are Indians just a different country like Pakistan and Bangladesh they were part of India and that's what counts. If your Hindu you know the story about ram so look at where they went.

  • I am trying to find out the most ancient martial art. Some pages says it is tai chi chuan or kalari. But somewhere it said kalari is 2000 years old and now you come with something 3000 years old.

  • I have heard many dates some say 5000, 4000, 1500 and 3000 many sources both outside and some gurus believe somewhere over 3000. This may sound suprising but considerinf Hindu mythology and even in Buddhist literature it does mention Siddhartha a practioner of martial arts. In Hindu literaure and statues depict both Kali and Shiva in fighting stances. The weapons they hold are similar to the ones used today.

  • To me it really dosn't which art is old all martial arts are to be respected. My advice here is rather than looking at one site video channel claiming 5000 years old or 2000 do a broader search most sites so far seems to agree that India reached martial art diversity at 3000 years.

  • By the way I also disagree that India is soley responsible for martial arts in my opinion it is human nature to defend wrestling being perhaps the earliest of fighting forms. Then later as new technology came up there arose a need to adapt martial arts to weapons such as swords and daggers. I would say though India seems to have influenced Eastern martial arts somewhat there is a movie on Boddhidharma in Chinese I recommend that you watch it.

  • Hi,narizp well I made it to the link you emailed over.I tried it the other week a couple of times and it didn't work. This looks interesting is it all a stick art or are there unarmed parts to it as well?

  • Silambam is a stick art and supposably originates on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu some 3500 years ago. You might like to search for (Thang Ta) on youtube. There should be at least five results. The sword and shield are pretty much the same as the ones used in Gatka and Kerala.

  • Correction Silambam can also have unarmed techniques to it as well. Really depends what school you get trained at. But it seems to me to emphasize greatly on how to master the staff normally made of bamboo.

  • if anbody want any more information about martial arts origines just leave me a comment

  • martial arts originated from india. but after the british raj most of the great secrets of their martial arts were lost. now only a few of the original martial arts still exist in india. people tend to assiociate martial art with china when it actual orginated from india. the chinese adopted it after they concoured indaia for over half a cenruary.

  • You mean the Mongols they only managed to conquer just beyond New Delhi and only had it breifly until Genghis Khans death after that India was ruled by the Mughals who established their rule in Afghanistan. South India was largely uneffected.

  • yea and after they the british conquered they almost wiped out indian martial art forever

  • I thought india only had their karibati

  • To Supmikey there are many different styles. Kalaripayattu or just Kalari means way of the warrior or battlefield. Styles of martial arts in the Indian Subcontinent include. Varma Kalai, Malla Yudda, Vajra Mushti, Gatka and Anampora/Angamporra plus many others depending on region. Most of the Northern Indian arts died out due to Arab invasion and colonial rule. However most of the weapons used in North and South bare similarities.

  • Here are some others if interested.

Adithada,Inbuan, Kuttu Varisai, Lathi, Thang-Ta,Malyutham, Mukna, Niyuddha-kride, Pehlwani,

Sarit Sarak, Varma Kalai, Bothati. I believe that Angamporra is from Sri Lanka if I'm wrong let me know.

  • Hey cheers.. i didn't know that at all

  • Angamporra is from Sri Lanka I found out a month ago.

  • Damn I wish I was South Indian and now I don't care for arab history.

  • Yeah! Lost Natya shastras!

  • very cool 4 stars just becouse of the first part were it a a circle in the scenter of the screen the rest was very cool

  • It's great . I love silambam. I 'am watching your videos couple of time in a day. It's amazing . Great to protect this wonderful art. Please post me some of your clips .

  • Five stars! awsome video I've never heard of this martial art before. Super cool.

    THE RED

  • Good reading about india. Opens a few eyes hinduwisdom dot info forward slash Hindu_Culture2

  • eveen blades of a ventilator are rotate slower than his stick

  • ha you got to be kidding me he was super slow and kept on doing the same thing.

but I dont know much about this art so i could be wrong

  • come on! it's just a metaphor

  • I suggest you watch the wrist and short arm action in the in close body positioning where he was changing the direction of the strikes.

They were quite unique and could be very effecitve even if used without a staff of some sort. Very reminiscent of closed fist cat kung fu styles.

  • no we're not chinks.

  • What fucks with the racism man, the guy isn't even chinese, he is Indian!

And what the fuck does skin colour and ethnicity have to do with this video!

Fuck off Rugiviet u racist cunt!

Good stuff btw, with the split kick between the trees, but whats with the editing tricker where they rewind footage of him jumping of a tree two make it look like he jumped 10 feet? :S

  • Great I want to see all indian martial arts in you tube...............

  • damn u.indians at least wash their hand after toilets .not like yellow skin people.

  • er whats this got to do with martial arts. you're a strange fellow

  • Illyong, what has smelling funny and looking dirty, to YOU got to do with martial arts. You're a strange fellow as well...

  • i've seen all ur vids u've posted here and i'm very impressed.

i'm in australia (tamil origin though) and have quite a bit of martial arts experience. but i really want to learn some south indian martial arts at some time. mainly silambam, adithada and kalari payattu

  • Oh, god.

  • Truly Amazing!

  • holy shit, thats amazing, i self taught myself the staff, i am not the good, but i am ok, great video.

  • I would assume silambam has the greatest, fastest, most impressive stickfighting skills..ever.

  • Good stuff, but don't ever assume is one skill is the best skill ever. There plenty of martial arts out there.

I've seen Faster stuff from Shoalin monks, where chinese martial arts orignated from India and wouldn't surprise me from this.

Modern wushu staff forms which originates from traditional kung fu, the Filipino stick and modern xma fighting all have great speed.

So just keep an open mind and never assume one is the best in the world of martial arts. A good martial artist embraces all!

  • Overall, "greatest, fastest, most impresive" comes from the PRACTITIONER not the STYLE!

Example: If you saw regular guy who had a few lesson to use the shaolin staff form, u might think that looks shit. But that doesn't mean the style is shit, check the monks, but that's coz they pracitce day to night. So it's all the practitioner the style only gives you a guideline.

  • Super! Can you please put some video without break in continuity --- this video is great. I thoroughly enjoyed it

  • silambam vazgha!
