Buck once said it was more important to play incredible rythmn rather than a incredible solo because ultimately it was more memorable....I remember seeing them at the 9:30 club pre Police tour..when Stipe still had long hair...one of the first bands I sung along with phonetically...an amazing band...and yes I have done gardening at night ;)

REM was the best band of the 1980's. In the 1990's they took a nose dive and became the cheesiest most pretentious MTV band. Even outdoing U2 and Sting.

love R.e.m.'s early stuff and i have murmur on cassette tape which i bought from a garage sale at a market where i live i think i was 15 when i got it im now 22 and still have it. Dead letter office is a good compact disc its got this song and others that are very rare to find ,a trip to the record store me thinks or ebay

yeah R.E.M is still releasing some great songs granted they arnt going to release as many but they do have a couple great new songs. i still love R.E.M as much as when they started becoming popular i love them and always will.

The irony is that REM represented the best of the underground music scene in the early 1980s as expressed in this 1983 performance, but the airheads dancing mindlessly don't even have a clue about REM and other bands that sounded like this back then. They're just there, whereas REM is doing something exciting. The saying goes that the more things change, the more they remain the same. It is just too bad that REM isn't this cool anymore.

REM is as cool as they were. The music sometimes isn't, but from every new album I can find atleast a few songs that truly are as great as great or better than the old REM stuff.

Ofc there are no new albums like Reckoning, for example, where ALL of the songs are good.
