  • This guy seems kinda rigid

  • I used to train under situ whit rod before my dad became a sifu himself. Let me explain, sifu whitrod possess great internal power that would simply make a lot of professional fighters look ordinary. He used to dual years back and from my dads stories, take on opponents from different styles, including kick boxing and many others and come out on top. Also, he is a teacher in muay Thai, Indian style (kali) prob spelt wrong, shaolin, 5 animals and I think possibly bagwa (again prob spelt wrong) b

  • Enthralling demonstration, exactly why I took up this form of martial art!

  • I learned this. its pretty effective against normal punches, especially those from tkd n karate. but it depends of how the strong the person is, if they hv eperience if they hv the reflexes

  • Comment removed

  • Exelent demonstration, i am currenty studying at this school... oh and the "HackneyShark" needs to shutup about Paul

  • I dont see how legitimate it is to argue about "who would win" in a fight. For one thing, Tong Long is partially an "internal" system, so its impossible to guage the power behind the technique. Forms barely reflect the depth of any martial art. Some are more practical than others but every style has purpose and merit. I studied Tong Long and Ninpo Tai Jutsu for seventeen years, although I prefer the Chow style I respect what I have garnered from Ninjutsu as well. Its not the way, its the warrior

  • I'll echo what 2mba said. The Sue brothers and their early students had it goin' on. The great decline of Tong Long started in the 90's and what passes for it these days just makes me shake my head. I guess people need to make a buck some way though...

  • I started training with Sifu Guy & Sifu Dennis Sue in 1994. I continue to train with them to this day. Whilst the instructors have changed & students come & go, the training & intensity at the school hasn't. I think that it says alot for the school when over a quarter of the students I train with have been there near on ten years. I'm very greatful for the training that I receive from Sifu Guy Sue & the input that Sifu Dennis has had as well.

  • How much does this thing cost? it seems like a Martial Arts Training Machine Im going to get one to train my kung fu at home

  • sir, why do you have a krshna in the back? that indian not chinese, then.... i dont get it

  • This man teaches Indian Martial arts aswell.

  • Do u know paul?

  • No but i saw a website with the same man who teaches Varma Kalai.

  • about all your fighting about kickboxer would knock him out or not: who cares? we´re not gonna find out anyway. one thing though: a kickboxer might be fast and strong but from what i know about kickboxing they train for glove- ring fights but somebody who practises kung fu ( especially the original styles ) is able to kill within the blink of an eye! kickboxing is a sport! kung fu is 1. a weapon and 2. a meditative practise teaching mindfullness. but i still dont care whod win or not peace!

  • Well said, vayenaka. Finally, someone with a brain. I was only taking the piss, but people rise to it too easily. You can't really say one is better than the other. Peace 2 u 2.

  • depends what kind of kickboxing were talking about. If were talking bout Muay Thai, then no, its not a "sport" that is a deadly form of Kickboxing, no gloves involved.

  • @infrared567 dude muay thai isn't deadly... i did it for years, and yeah its fast and teaches you to take a punch if nothing else, but it still doesn't compare to something that's developed for killing and taking apart a human body.

  • @vayenaka agree totally, i myself have done both Muay Thai and Wing Chun and of the two, even though muay thai uses knees and elbows, its a sport... and kick boxing is just the watered down version of that. I've done wing chun now for 5yrs and through a friends brother who learns Henry Siu's version i am having my eyes opened to some shattering techniques, the whole premise of their style is to not put down, but DESTROY an opponent in 3 strikes. This style is lethal.

  • @1JZGTE666 yeah, I myself trained internal martial arts (southern styles and bagua zhang) with Sifu Rich Mooney (if the name rings a bell) and this guy totally rocked my world in terms of physical comprehension. he told me to throw a roundhouse at his face, hit my thie with a bent finger only and surprisingly my other leg ( the one i was standing on) collapsed after feeling a rush of extreme "electric" pain throughout my whole body...its really sick what you can do if you know some vital points

  • OK, if I can be serious for a minute... Don't think I'm disrespecting Kung-Fu. It's a fine and ancient art. And I have no doubt that Paul Whitrod is an excellent teacher. Against the average joe, he'd easily win. But he'd lose to a "kickboxer" or a boxer. No question.

  • hmm, he trains me, and no i dont think so.

  • I heard that paul whitrod was a phsyco when he was young, he had many full contact fights in his younger day against many masters, he held his own, never asked anyone to fight for him always done it on his own. as for leaving him to do another art etc, thats life.. cant retain everyone. and he beat many kick boxers in his younger day and was ready to fight in a cage fight only last year.. ah well, arm chair warriors always critise someone from the safty of thier home PC

  • I can criticise your spelling for a start. How old are you really? 8? If not then you're pretty damn thick.

  • Interesting. All looks very impressive to be sure, but I reckon a kickboxer would take him out.

  • ahh no. based of this demonstration alone, sure one would asume if that is all the style had to offer it would not be as strong as the defence/attack teachings of muai thai or kickboxing in general, however this is only a small glimps of a form from chow gar tong long, this man represents tong long for england and mybee the whole of uk (fairly high up on the totem pole). Youtube "henry sue" i think you'll find this style is a lot harder than you think.

  • So why do we never see Kung-Fu experts at a UFC or K1 tournament for example? Cos they'd lose to a kickboxer or grappler, and quickly. You know it's true, 'halitosis'. My friend trained under Paul Whitrod and he left to take up boxing!

  • HackneyShark pussy, do you do any form of Martial Arts, if you do tell me about it. You probably dont, and ur just an armchair warrior, leav the fighting to the fighters. Let me tell ou something about UFC it is not 'kickboxing' it is a MMA Mixed Martial Art if you didnt know tht, combined of all types of fighting including Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Wing Chun, and lots of others. Dont get it twisted, this guy will fuck you up.

  • Why are there so many thick shits on here? 'Don't get it twisted, this guy will fuck you up?' You're not even worth arguing with as you're obviously not very bright. And yes, a "kickboxer" would destroy you. Why did I even start this in the first place? Jesus.

  • A kick boxer, may or may not beat up a kung fu fighter, it all depends of the size weight height they are all advanteges/disadvantages. You havent got a clue my sofa warrior friend

  • Sofa warrior? Dearie me. Even your insults are lame. lol. What have we got another expert here? What did you do, watch The Karate Kid when you were twelve? Is there any chance of a healthy debate with someone who isn't a complete retard?

  • Shut your mouth, you have no idea. Do you do any form of martial arts?

  • A "kickboxer"? You know very little about martial arts. Your friend would appear to be in good company.

  • What are you, an expert? You know I'm right anyway. Not that this had anything to do with you in the first place, moron.

  • Yes, reading this thread, it's obvious- I'M the moron.

  • To answer some questions on Chow Gar and Paul Whitrod:

Paul Whitrod = excellent sifu of this style. One of the most respected in Chow Gar.

Not wearing shoes = traditional teaching is you 'grip' the floor with your toes. It strenghtens the stance.

MJED1978: 'Internal styles need to be loose?' = You show your' lack of knowledge with that comment. This 'stiffness' is a demonstration of shock power.

  • Comment removed

  • his stance was waaaaaaaaaaaaay off.

and his hand motions are too wide.

he left his weak spots prone in this form.

    he's no sifu.

  • TOPH SYTLE EARTH BENDING!!!

  • I like swords.

  • i have trained southern mantis in hk and some schools dont wear shoes and some do.......i don't think it matters...reminds me if u dont have something good to say then yeh dont say anything.

  • that bo gin (spearing fist) at the start his hopeless! youre fingers are far too far apart, meaning youre energy is shooting in 4 different directions, and you call yourself a sifu...........to truly be a sifu, you must be a 9th degree grandmaster in the tong long art.....

  • the only person that can "truly" be a sifu has to be a "9th degree grandmaster in the Tong Long art"? wow I feel sorry for every other style in existence then, apparently they don't have sifus. I guess everyone 8th degree and down can't teach kung fu anymore either.

and to some of the other people who cares if the guy is wearing shoes or not in the video, what a minor detail to dwell on

  • hmm kung fu didnt even have a a degree ranking system. as i remember.

  • you are correct.

To "036265" I can assure you Paul Whitrod

is a master in Chow Gar Tong Long.

I have never met him personally but I have met some of his students and their skills are excellent.

  • Degree's are a prussian (german) invention lmao. The japanese adopted degree's to black belt to copy germans. Japs are well known sellouts. I know pat moritas niece btw. He stopped talking to family after he got famous from happy days well past middle age.

  • Paul Whitrod is the practitioner immediately below grandmaster Ip Chee Keung in the Chow Gar lineage. He is the foremost practitioner of the art in the West, and among the finest martial artists in Britain.

He could also kill you in his sleep.- Fortunately, he is also known for being a nice guy!

  • in reference to what someone else said, where are your shoes? when you fight on the street you wont have time to take off your shoes. and your fingers are always apart. the energy will be let out everywhere.

  • is ther a combat exercise to proof the form. like some sort of two man free flow?

  • looking at some of his postures, i think southern mantis kung fu may have had a very pivotal role in the developement of okinawan karate. especially uechi ryu, which is supposedly tiger, crane, and dragon. but much of it looks like southern mantis.

  • You would be 100% correct. Check out the book Barefoot Zen. Also note that Wing Chun is a likely candidate for being related as well. Today's Shaolin was not yesterdays Shaolin. Remember it was burned to the ground and they mostly left for Taiwan.

  • and fukien. most northern shaolin is wushu based these days from what i hear (not that there's anyting wrong with that) wing chun, southern mantis, fukien white crane...many of these styles are related to each other. actually i'd say most of them.

  • Nice stuff. Thanks for posting. Good posture. your training shows.

  • This style is so intriguing.

    looks very practical.

  • ryuarashi are you talking about dim mak?

  • i like the other one were they use the index finger

  • Southern mantis has both internal and external techniques and no nobody stole his shoes.

  • kesmyaspol, your full of shit. You have apparently studied martial arts for 22 years yet you are only 19 what are trying to prove?

  • lolololololol

  • looks easy, but it's really hard. tried it but if you are not relaxed, no move really works. i only jumped around. its the footwork and coordination of hands, that make you really fast. respect to you, southernmantiskungfu

  • Thats fast.

Me trained with you briefly Mr W, in the Shaolin Temple UK, Islington, with Sifu Yeung Lan Jong (If Im spelling his name remotely near)

Good to see someone taking this skill onwards!

I understand Sifu Leung let to make films in Hong Kong??

  • Looks more external than northern mantis. Did someone steal his shoes?

  • I'm curious - how can a style "look more external"? All you will ever see are the external components - so how can you say unequivocally that his mind is not part of it, that integrations are not involved, and that the power is not generated through chansijin power?

  • Damn blackjamm! I did not know you really know your stuff. You must be a real good Martial artist.

I want to apologize for my rude behavior. As far as

styles. I studied wing chun, karate, escrima, muay thai, and jujutsu. 5 years each except jujutsu. 2 years and going on that style. Anyhow, i'm impressed by your words. Peace to you my fellow martial artist.

  • No worries. Nice range of styles.

  • Thank you. (:

  • Really now? Wing Chun, what is the first form called, what is the second form called, and what is the third form called. What are the two weapon forms and what is the ENGLISH translation of Wing Chun actually in Chinese? What is the English Translation of the styles from Chinese?

  • you do know there are 4 forms in wing tsung not 3

  • what is the third?

  • Aren't there five?

  • there are 6 in the most popular style (yip man) siu nim tao (little idea) chum kiu (seeking bridge) biu jee (shooting fingers) are empty hand. and there are two weapon forms, luk dim boon kwan (pole/staff) and bot jam do (butterfly swords)..but some lineages have more forms, like chee sim lineage has a '3 bows to buddha' form. and there is also the wooden dummy form mok yan jong i think its called

  • Actually many styles of Wing Tsun have even more than that. Just depends on the lineage. Don't forget the weapons.

  • why are you trying to put people on the spot by quizing them?

  • siu nim tao, chum kiu, biu jee. bot cham do, luk dim boon kwan. i was told it means beautiful springtime. and was originally pronounced ving tsun. however any moron with 10 minutes and the internet can figure this all out.

  • lol northern praying manis is what i do

  • Do you pray like a mantis?

  • Awesome
