What submissions are you talking about? Vaseline did not get St. Pierre the takedown, nor did they make him any better in stand up, and he did both effectively and repeatedly. Watching the fight the only time you can say the vasaline had a major effect is when Penn was trying to use his high guard, and I will admit that could have been a major defining factor during those exchanges, but it was only during the second round, and again we've seen St. Pierre do the same before.

I wouldn't call a guy soft who's won 19 out of 21 fights either, with notable wins over guys like BJ Penn and Matt Hughes. I agree that he's not the best fighter when compared with guys like Fedor or Anderson Silva or maybe Lyoto Machida, but I would say he's easily in the top 5 best mma fighters.
