I like Rush, there one of my favourite bands but I don't understand why Rush has to bash God, and Christianity in there music. For example: Faithless, Free Will, and this song Ghost of a Chance(which is a nice sounding song, I just don't agee with the lryics, just my opinion though). God is like the wind. You can feel it blow against your skin or see the reaction of it hitting the leaves on the trees. You have to WANT to believe ther is a God. Just a thought :)
@trenken Upload a video of you singing! I'd love to see how much better you are then geddy lee! :) He's old! What doo you expect if you don't like it go away! He's and extremely talented musician! Compared to most people he's a pretty good singer! You remind me of those mainstream critic's back when rush started who would judge them for the stupidest things like that! Just go away!
@trenken Hey, if you dislike them its okay, but don't critise him cuz of his vioce, everyone has a different voice range and additionally, he's old and you cannot expect him to sing like some other musicians that just came into the music industry. If you don't like hear him singing listen to some instrumentals like Yyz.
Geddy Lee may not have a naturally ear-pleasing voice, you definitely have to get used to it. But he does some very cool stuff vocally. I remember someone complaining about his voice cracking in snakes and arrows "bravest face"...except that was Geddy hitting high notes and then immediately going back down.
When the realm finds a key it drops into the labyrinth where the dark creatures come into the perception of older natures less enclined to reach out and oppose what does not oppose them! @ManOffTTC Except for Different Strings (Geddy) and he co-wrote Closer to the Heart with John Michael Talbot. Those are the only two I know off the top of my head that weren't all Neil.
@MrHypermoto And Tears (Geddy), Lessons (Alex), a few from Fly By Night and the entire first album. There's more, probably, but I can't think of them either.
@1nativeaustintexan That doesnt make sense... The fluids would extinguish the flame.

@wiegandhosting But that would get some of the "contents" on the tipper, which isn't fair. What you need to do is roll it off a cliff. That way the contents spill, but no innocent tippers get covered in contents.
@1968mjh I agree totally man. It took me watching the S&A DVD to remember listening to this song as a kid with my dad when we were driving it the car (I was born in '89). It's so awesome to hear it again, and with such a great performance at that. It just takes me back...
This is still to this day, one of my all time favorite 5 am songs. I know it may sound corny, but if you've ever fallen head over heels for a girl, take this song, get in your car, and go drive anywhere. When you see the sun start pooing up, start the song. Sit back, and enjoy it. If you want to go for song #2, put in the Scorpions "Send me an Angel." Some things you can't buy, like the memories of having that happen to me.
Rush is truly one the greatest progressive rock bands of all time. Such amazing talent from these 3 musicians. They have endured the test of time unlike bands of today. Thankful to have had their music to brighten up my life over the years.
Hey aclopez..., I really can't tell about any ejaculation in this solo by Alex. What I do know is that somwhere there is a girl having and orgasm listening to it.. I totally agree with you, he has in many of his recordings share with Neil and Geddy, the amazing blend of talent that erupts from Rush, for me they will be the greates band ever. They will have me always in a Rush for more. I love this guys...Long Live RUSH!!!
@Obelisk2290 This one really hits home hard with me, because at the ripe old/young age of 37 I was divorced from my 3rd legal husband. The first time I'd married I was 23 years old. Now, I'm 43 and although I would still like to have partnership which lasts for decades rather than weeks, months or a few years...for some reason there is "a difficulty"....but there's still the ghost of a chance...
my yonger brother back in the day(1975) said you need to check out this band they are awesome.... at first I didnt like them...they were very raw but obviously he had something/// rush has unique signature (as does every band) in every song... right afterand during the lyric state of grace.... that is their signature... go listen for it in just about every song...
@tamawashi76 Richard Chycki mixed this song for "Retrospective III". Check it out on my channel and listen to it in HD for what this song really sounds like.
U see how Alex isn't even looking at what he's playing?... mostly the solo I'm talking about. This man is all about feel, passion & emotion. He's often been underrated as a guitar player, but that's a serious oversight. All 3 of them are equally gr8. Any1 needing to check out his physical abilities should listen to his solo in Free Will, studio version 79. Then how he ended his solo in Tom Sawyer the next year... with 1 note..... no need for fast scales there.... he's awesome.......
@rush4ever1 wow.. that's awesome man.. i wish i could see them live.. honestly. im gonna see when they come back to Toronto. this is a once in a lifetime chance for me.. unless they keep touring. this is awesome, they're back and playing live as i type. im on a rush binge right now. enjoy the show lucky bastard!
I think Geddy's voice has gotten better and worse at the same time. He definitely can't sing some of the older songs like fly by night or something for nothing as well as he used to, but he can pull songs that were just okay and turn them into a greatest hit
Saw them on this tour at Red Rocks- the audience was a weird group, not really gelling if you get my drift, but when Rush did this song- we all became a family. The highlight of a very, very memorable show.
This song is amazing, it traduces what I feel about my girlfriend Fabiola, and the history of our relationship. Rush is and will be my "forward star" for all my life!
@ub3r2008 It's not you... they have no bad albums... Any real Rush fan who thinks they dislike a Rush album should seriously consider the possibility that they have been left behind..........
The reason for the chickens is to counter the ton of Barbie dolls -- or "chicks -- that Alex has in front him on stage. There are 3 rotisseries for obvious reasons.
@Moralvorstellung28 I'm 55, and have certainly been hearing them forever, but for some reason, this ( Roll The Bones ) was the only album of theirs I ever bought.......I think because of THIS particular song. The chickens confused me also........but then I've seen another of their performances where they had clothes driers running in the background.
@Moralvorstellung28 The chickens are in place of bass cabinets. Geddy uses a "head" straight into the PA these days. As a bassist I miss his cabinets.
@pajasper Thanks for the info. I'm a guitarist myself and I couldn't imagine running my amp head directly into the PA. The speakers from the PA or any monitor are completely different sounding from any guitar cabinet. I play through Marshall 1960 with Greenbacks cabinets. One could never duplicate that sound with a PA, whose speakers are LOUD and CLEAR, but offer no real tone. Anyway, I'm not a bassist, and I'm confident Geddy knows more about his particular sound then I would.
Rush, I've loved you for almost 20 years now. Neil's playing is beyond words, Alex's guitar skills are unmatched and Geddy's bass licks are some of the bests.
This video is proof though, that something is starting to slip. When Geddy lowered some octaves to sing their earlier works back in the 80's and 90's, it was understandable. But... it's a sad day when he doesn't even have the range he had back in the 80's, or even the 90's for that matter :(
Ok, idk about all of you, but when i watched this video, i saw proof that this band deserves a spot in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. I think this band's earned the right to be in the hall of fame more than most of the other artists in there.
@Grungeguy1991 i would disagree, not cause I don't think Rush is good...I think they are incredible, and that's precisely why I don't want them in there, amongst the majority of one hit wonder, joke musicians in there! :D
they need an album with all the songs only released on their compilations. It could have this, one little victory(live r30 and remix versions), earth shine remix, and others.
The spinning chickens on the stage were pretty funny. Great song, but Getty sounds a little horse on this performance. When they come to your town, Go!!!!
One of the things I respect in these guys is that, in this age of 'expanded' live bands, notably The Who and Floyd/Gilmour, RUSH is still three guys on stage making their music. I think some times Hugh Sime used to play 'offstage' keyboards like Geoff Nichols for Sabbath but I think here it's three guys kickin' ass!
I hnestly never got the hate for Roll The Bones. It's such a smooth, melodic album. And this song is a prime example of the musical and lyrical depth of that album. Just listen to that guitar riff... Alex's guitar seems to cry in this song.
@def2111 - Seriously, what drugs are you taking....you have got to be kidding me. Before you post on here or another video about RUSH do the following: 1. STOP taking the drugs so your brain can function properly. 2. LISTEN to their music...ALL OF IT. I am talking about going ALL THE WAY BACK TO THEIR FIRST ALBUM-RUSH and really LISTENING to it. Do this for EVERY ALBUM UP TO SNAKES AND ARROWS 3. Learn to freaking spell so you don't sound like an idiot! Finally, DON'T EVER POST AGAIN...IDIOT!
@diamond123100, Neil Peart started using DW Drums (which I think are the best sounding rock drums PERIOD) since 1996 when he started taking simplified drumming lessons from the great jazz drummer Freddie Gruber. At the same time, Rush recorded their "Test For Echo" album.
@diamond123100 ...very true ...if you notice, starting with the Vapor Trails tour (first DW kit) ....each tour the kit sounds better and better ......w/ S&A and Time Machine sounding best! He's really dailing in his sound with John at DW!
@metzilla For sure, I saw all those tours as well, the last being Time Machine at the Gorge. His drums sounded so thick and full, you could feel it in your chest. Just hearing Neil play that kit is worth the price of admission.
@MrHypermoto I was luck enough to be on Row-3 for the Snakes & Arrows Tour when it came to Austin,Texas. . .I was actually under and a bit behind the front-of-house speakers, so I was actually hearing Neil's drums from off the stage and not thru the PA. THAT was an experience in itself. . .And for the record, he apparently doesnt have that 3rd hand we've been looking for all this time. . . .drat ! ! !
@barnabas50 I agree!!! Roll the bones is a fantastic album! And Ghost of a chance and neurotica are one of the bests musics from Rush! Beautifull lyrics!!!
Wow!! I don't think I've listened to this for about 15 years. I thought it was a pretty average track from a below average (Rush average that is) album. But this performance is a thing of rare beauty. Scorching performances from all three of them, and Geddy's voice sounds so much richer these days. These guys have more talent in their little fingers than 99% of other "musicians" have in their entire overrated lives.
@1968mjh liked this comment, I agree with you that it was an average studio track, but they've obviously tweeked this to perfection over the years, going to see them next month, sad that it's not on the playlist, but one of many classics!
Alex Lifeson is such a smart player, he gives enough room for Geddy and Neil to shine and improvise, instead of ejaculating all over the songs......Alex's playing makes this band great!
@aclopezestrada - Right on! Alex Lifeson = totally underrated master. And anyone who considers him less than his peers is NOT listening, REALLY listening.
@aclopezestrada You are the only person I've ever heard say this haha. I can't say I don't agree, but most people I hear say the opposite, that Alex is too in the dark since Geddy plays bass, sings, and keyboards and Neil is like the God of drums, I almost feel bad for Alex Lifeson, he is just the guitar guy, but one of the best!
@aclopezestrada i think thats the reason why he's underated cause the bassist/singer kicks ass and the drummer and in many bands its the guitarist that get the limelight but they share it and its amazing
Neil Peart is the greateast drummer that I've ever heard. No other drummer can emote feelings through drumming like Neil can. When I listen to this song, I can hear how he supports the lyrics by the tempo and changes in his drum playing. He leads my heart to feel what he is trying to convey and I am filled with awe and amazement because he helps me to understand the message. Thank you, Neil. You are a gift to the soul !
The reason for the chickens is to counter the ton of Barbie dolls -- or "chicks -- that Alex has in front him on stage. There are 3 rotisseries for obvious reasons.
dcseminars 1 year ago
I'm afraid I don't understand the purpose of all those rotisserie chickens on the stage. Nice song though. I've been a fan since round '76.
Moralvorstellung28 1 year ago
@Moralvorstellung28 I'm 55, and have certainly been hearing them forever, but for some reason, this ( Roll The Bones ) was the only album of theirs I ever bought.......I think because of THIS particular song. The chickens confused me also........but then I've seen another of their performances where they had clothes driers running in the background.
195511SM 1 year ago
@Moralvorstellung28 The chickens are in place of bass cabinets. Geddy uses a "head" straight into the PA these days. As a bassist I miss his cabinets.
pajasper 1 year ago
@pajasper Thanks for the info. I'm a guitarist myself and I couldn't imagine running my amp head directly into the PA. The speakers from the PA or any monitor are completely different sounding from any guitar cabinet. I play through Marshall 1960 with Greenbacks cabinets. One could never duplicate that sound with a PA, whose speakers are LOUD and CLEAR, but offer no real tone. Anyway, I'm not a bassist, and I'm confident Geddy knows more about his particular sound then I would.
Moralvorstellung28 1 year ago
Damn that snare drum sounds sexy. Has just the perfect mix of depth and pop and attack and dynamics. I want one!
crowjr2 1 year ago
Rush, I've loved you for almost 20 years now. Neil's playing is beyond words, Alex's guitar skills are unmatched and Geddy's bass licks are some of the bests.
This video is proof though, that something is starting to slip. When Geddy lowered some octaves to sing their earlier works back in the 80's and 90's, it was understandable. But... it's a sad day when he doesn't even have the range he had back in the 80's, or even the 90's for that matter :(
NetBoy2112 1 year ago
Ok, idk about all of you, but when i watched this video, i saw proof that this band deserves a spot in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. I think this band's earned the right to be in the hall of fame more than most of the other artists in there.
Grungeguy1991 1 year ago

GregERobertson 1 year ago

Neils DW drums really shine on this recording! Awesome song.
diamond123100 1 year ago 8
@diamond123100, Neil Peart started using DW Drums (which I think are the best sounding rock drums PERIOD) since 1996 when he started taking simplified drumming lessons from the great jazz drummer Freddie Gruber. At the same time, Rush recorded their "Test For Echo" album.
MrPman851 10 months ago
@diamond123100 ...very true ...if you notice, starting with the Vapor Trails tour (first DW kit) ....each tour the kit sounds better and better ......w/ S&A and Time Machine sounding best! He's really dailing in his sound with John at DW!
metzilla 7 months ago
@metzilla For sure, I saw all those tours as well, the last being Time Machine at the Gorge. His drums sounded so thick and full, you could feel it in your chest. Just hearing Neil play that kit is worth the price of admission.
MrHypermoto 7 months ago
@MrHypermoto I was luck enough to be on Row-3 for the Snakes & Arrows Tour when it came to Austin,Texas. . .I was actually under and a bit behind the front-of-house speakers, so I was actually hearing Neil's drums from off the stage and not thru the PA. THAT was an experience in itself. . .And for the record, he apparently doesnt have that 3rd hand we've been looking for all this time. . . .drat ! ! !

MariBelli89 1 year ago
1968mjh 1 year ago 48
@1968mjh liked this comment, I agree with you that it was an average studio track, but they've obviously tweeked this to perfection over the years, going to see them next month, sad that it's not on the playlist, but one of many classics!

Alex Lifeson is such a smart player, he gives enough room for Geddy and Neil to shine and improvise, instead of ejaculating all over the songs......Alex's playing makes this band great!
aclopezestrada 1 year ago 82
@aclopezestrada Hah, "ejaculating" all over the songs. Nice choice of words, but pretty damn accurate.
Disembow1280 1 year ago 2
@aclopezestrada - Right on! Alex Lifeson = totally underrated master. And anyone who considers him less than his peers is NOT listening, REALLY listening.
SingularityComplex 1 year ago
@aclopezestrada In doing so he has created a style all of his own and has made a huge name for himself. Established guitar gods revere him.
countroshculla 1 year ago
@aclopezestrada You are the only person I've ever heard say this haha. I can't say I don't agree, but most people I hear say the opposite, that Alex is too in the dark since Geddy plays bass, sings, and keyboards and Neil is like the God of drums, I almost feel bad for Alex Lifeson, he is just the guitar guy, but one of the best!
