This band is brilliant, live or on record. Probably Britain's best Blues/Rock band ever. Catch them when you can. I was introduced to them in 1972 and have worn out two copies of SPLIT on vinyl! I keep going back to it. Thanks SWELLTECHNO (and anyone else) for enabling others to hear T S McPhee and the band.
I saw them on a prog package tour 2008. He was mesmerising, and really delivered a unique form of guitar artistry. he seemed to go into his own world - which ironically made the show more entertaining.
I think it's to do with the synth bit at the beginning, I've seen them in Doncaster twice. Absolutely awesome, I even got to have a go on Dave Andeson's bass.
@MrRogersjon Tony did play it live a few years ago - for a time the set featured Split parts 1to 4 play together in sequence. I think that changed when they got a new Bass player in. Sadly, as far as I know, there's no live recording of Split 3, but it sounded brilliant live (it's my favourite of the 4 parts as well, so I might be biased) :D
If you listen to the lyrics carefully it tells quite a sad/lonely story. I think the song is either about someone going mad or someone coming down of a serious drugs high!
I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. McPhee, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.
The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.

" If I was sane and knew what life was about..."
Can't imagine any new band writing such depth of lyric these days.
It's all gone dumb-shaped.
