@hammaerst Aristocracy? Johnston doesn't belong to the aristocracy. There is not aristocracy in Canada. Even in the U.K., the Lords have very few actual powers and live in the countryside, and play a largely decorative function. For example, getting together the community for Church services, or for afternoon soccer and cricket matches etc.
@somberlight The Governor-General is kind of like a Ambassador from the Queen to act on her behalf within her realms outside of the UK as Her Majesty cant be in several places at once. The whole G.G. being de-facto Head of State is more a modern invention to give something of a positive illusion that the realms are self-governing and seperate. Most of the time this is largely the case as theres VERY little the Governor-General cant do in his role as Her Majesty's permanent deputy in the Realm.
Lord Haper the Douche used the Gov general to shut down our democratic process when they threatened to oust him.
The Gov general and its power is proof that we not free from British rule. If the Rep of the queen has the power to shut down the democratic process then we are not a democracy and all these fools are treasonous.
Harper should have had his head put on a pike for his treasonous acts. Electronic voting can never be trusted nor can the fools it elects.
@geebus80 Canada has been separated from British parliament since 1982. The Governor General is Her Majesty's The Queen of Canada's representative. The Queen of Canada is a separate institution. You are correct though we aren't a democracy and we never have been. Canada is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. Power rests in Parliament not directly in the people.
Actually, the Gov General is kind of like the US President. He's a figurehead and he signs bills into law. That's also really all the President does in the US, he just is more involved in the day to day stuff.
In the US they basically combined the positions of the Prime Minister with the Speaker of the House.
@SWilliamJackson This is not quite the understanding I have of the US presidency. It is probably true that much of the day-to-day miniature of Government is left to his closest officers (Chief of Staff etc.) but this I imagine would be more that his responsibilities are so vast that he simply wouldn't have time to get involved in such matters.
@revolver188 No our Prime Minister isn't our President. A President is someone who signs laws (IE is Head of State). Our Head of State is the Queen represented by the Governor General. So, he is the equivalent of a President just not democratically elected. A Prime Minister is head of government. They make and pass bill but they DO NOT sign laws into existence. The Head of State (our Governor General and President in other countries) can take any bill and veto it. A Prime Minister CAN'T.
What does he think about the collapse of the economy? Globalization? The North American Perimeter? The police violence on protestors during the G20? Bombing Libya? The lack of information on what our military is doing in Libya? The lack of information on ANYTHING that the Harper Government is doing in the name of Canada!
Canada's arch nemesis? Shouldn't be a difficult question to answer. North Korea. It's like living in 1984. Surely he wouldn't "offend" anyone by saying that.

David Lloyd Johnston isn't a real ruler, as he is appointed by his lesser.
Stephen Harper isn't a real Prime Minister either. Only a politicial who likes to get elected.

@somberlight No, the Governor General is the representative of the Queen. The closest we have to a president is the prime minister.
