I admire the Aztec, I love their culture, poetry, and music, but I'm not gonna pretend they were nice people who worshipped the Great Spirit like so many people (The Mexica Movement particularly) want to. They practiced human sacrifice, had an extremely stratified society, no notion of anything even close to democracy, no corpus of literature and philosophy (the vast majority of it written after the conquest)... Compare the Mexica to Greece or even the Maya and they don't come out of it well.
