This song reminds me of my childhood. This was my family's band. My dad and mom both shared their love for it and this song imparticular floods back thousands of heart-felt memories. Wow I am literally crying. I haven't heard U2 in SOOO long. Oh my God I am so emotional yet so happy. <3 <3 <3 :')
@xTigerEditing Man, I feel for you. U2 was my aunt's favorite band and she died this past week. I am saddened every time I hear every song because I remember she's gone.
no its about ireland were U2 is from cause no streets need names were everyone knows were there going and they no were they have been when most of the families that live there have been there for hundreds of years....
@g8rsk8r2000 You idiot, it's not LITERALLY about street names. God I get so annoyed with non-deep people. (btw I AM deep and people like me think of your comment as what-the-hell). :*
@XeetX2 the song is about new york numbered street and avenues!!
its from joshua tree which references Americana throughout and the freedom usa offers.
ireland in the 80's was a very different place to what is today, due to the troubles of terrorism and occupation. the us must of been a liberating experience for lads who'd grown up in ireland during 70's and 80's.
No one's probably gonna read this, but I’ll say it anyway cuz I feel at least 1 person will. I'm a young designer and graffiti artist, I know there's a million out there but I feel like my art has a unique individual style.
If you just take a min and give me a chance I'll make you a believer. I would love nothing more than to have a loyal following on youtube. If anyone who reads this could press the "THUMBS UP" others will see it. Just a simple button push will make a huge difference.

@xTigerEditing I know the feeling. This was my Step-dad's favorite song. Every time i hear it i cry because it not only reminds me that he's gone, but this is also the song we played at his funeral. @heliwithH I wouldn't say that, They definately changed their sound, but I don't think they lost their originality until the new millenium. I mean sure some parts of Zoorapa and Pop were questionable but there were also many great tracks on both albums and they turned out to be two of the most original albums ever made. And I mean come on man Achtung baby was amazing!
One night while my mom was in college, she went to the bar, where she met a musician-looking guy. He asked her for a metaphor for heaven - she replied that her grandfather, my great grandfather, had always called it "Where the streets have no names". A month or two later, FA-BAM! This song came out.
Because the last two posts are mildly confused....U2's success and involvement with Ethiopia were foretold to Bono by that girl and their manager and secretary were involved in calls in 1984 and letters Anne, the secretary held were dated and sealed from May to Nov. 1984. One contained the photo of Adinew. THEN came Geldof's call, BandAid, LiveAid, and Bono and his wife lived in Ethiopia in an orphage one month in 1985. A later miracle in 1990's involved me, Mother Theresa, an icon, Africa again
U2, takes, (or in the 80s took) their religion seriously. Bono & Clayton almost left the band over the incongruity of their religion and the rock n roll lifestyle. Not to say they are the hell and damnation type christians but rather the peace and love type. "Bloody Sunday" is about stopping the religious violence in Northern Ireland and makes specific reference to Jesus as do some of their other songs. That said, :In the name of Love" is about MLK and references his assasination in Memphis.
@BreathCtrlPlay No, its definitely "sunlight" in every version I've heard. If you check the official lyrics on U2.com (where I got these ones from), it says sunlight.
There is nothing overtly Christian about this song. period. I agree that it's very spiritually driven, as are a lot of things for Bono and The Edge, but the lyrics make no specific appeal to christianity. The fact that some of the members of the band were raised Christian, and still recognize their faith in no way means that U2 is a 'Christian band'. Jimmy Page had a passing interest in the occult, but that doesn't mean Zeppelin was a satanic band...
@guitarguru72 i get what you are saying. however, in a ton of their songs they have meanings behind the lyrics that are chritian. like in vertigo, it says your love is teaching me how to kneel, meaning how to pray.
The coversations I have witnessed over the years, here on youtube make me laugh a little. Kiwinil, I agree with your comment. Loverofmusic702, go "fuk" yourself
These guys are great!!! I love them and give them oodles of credit for not only giving us such awesome music, but for being the humanitarians' they are! Bravo guys and thank you!!!!!
who would dislike this??!?!?
