what a shitty job you did on that dog !!!!!!!!!! you gave it a schnauzer face !!!! and that dog is not aggresive you just dont know how to handle it !
@obamasuckss NOT AGGRESSIVE? What do you call a dog that tries to bite a human, then? Oh wait, let me guess, "He's just scared"- I work at the vet's office and I hear that one all the time. It's a sham- aggressive is not the same as vicious- aggressive is when a dog goes to bite a human, period.
What would cause the do to be 'aggressive' in the first place? Is it because they are traumatised by other groomers, or is it something breed specific or even something else?
Iv seen one groomer on here where the puppy was screaming in fear, the man was very rough with the pup and thought it was funny. Im very glad the groomer wasnt in my country. Should we as owners watch the groomer at work before we concent to our dogs being groomed etc?
@PurdyBear1 Lots of groomers will act differently towards the dog when you're there watching them and a lot of them won't want you to be there through the full process. The best thing for trying out groomers is trial and error or asking around to see which person is content with which groomer.
@PurdyBear1 Sometimes it's not even the groomer who will cause the bad experience. Sometimes the dog is matted or not kept up properly with any grooming (ie nails) so it's a difficult time trying to groom the dog which can cause a bad experience for the dog. The best thing for you to do as a dog owner is to make sure you bring the dog in for a regular grooming every 3-8 weeks to maintain a happy and healthy dog and make the experience less trying for him!
The grooming shop I work in got most of its regulars from the other two local shops because a lot of the dogs were deemed aggressive (difficult? yes. Aggressive? no!). We are calm and playful with the dogs, never forcing and always building their trust. It's all in how you respect the dog (while staying in authority of course) We only have two or three 'aggressive' ones now that actually bite. The other groomers were harsh and angry. We love and build trust! WTG in doing a GREAT job with Buddy!
Well, nobody would be able to get my dog into grooming position with the leash and all that, so this doesn't help me, but it's certainly a good video for people whose aggressive dogs will permit being placed on the table to begin with.
@LoreleiMission you might be surprised in how your dog might react to someone ELSE putting him/her up on the table. Most dogs are not as difficult as their owners think they will be :)
@bestestmama Thank you for your reply. The dog had 10 years of physical abuse before we received it, and we'd heard a grooming shop had banned the dog. We've found many triggers that make him panic and attack. Last time I took him to the vet he bit me, scared the staff (he's 50 lbs) & we couldn't get a muzzle on him. The vet no longer has me bring him in. I go alone for diagnosis-by-description and pick up his meds. The vet used to groom him for us. Poor freaky doggie.
@LoreleiMission Incidentally the vet never groomed him while conscious. When the dog was asleep for his dental work, they would groom him at the same time.
@LoreleiMission That is SO sad :( If I had 10 yrs of abuse I would bite people too. I wouldnt trust ANYONE. Good for you for keeping him and giving him a chance at life that no one else would! (((HUG)))
As a groomer myself, I have to say I noticed one thing. You were really digging the teeth of your blade into his skin. Every shave tugged at his skin.. maybe not a good method if youre dealing with an aggressive dog.. might be one of the many reasons why he doesnt like be groomed. But, nice work!
@TheRandyPreston You are more then welcome to try to groom this dog with an iPhone taping it and see if your clippers appear to be tugging on him...I say this not in malice but simply fact that, when grooming this dog as aggressive as he is, you get what you get. You can view the other video's and see that clippers are always laid flat.
the comb in the beard is awesome never even thought of that totally coulda used this technique on a very very naughty 5 month old shih tzu today,( i work at petsmart). Dog bite me several times and drew blood. was sent home with face undone because of its attitude. definatley sent home training info home with pet parent..
What do you do when you are with a dog that does not submit this well when restrained? Here, he is good enough while you hold his beard, but how do you approach a dog that, for instance, struggles when you have his beard and are trying to scissor his head?
@lissamiss What you can't see in this video is the time is took to 'out last' the dog while holding his beard with the comb first and then slowly putting my hand under the comb and finally getting my hands on his beard (didn't have enough time for a You Tube video). I didn't do anything but be patient, and not let him win with bad manners. Once it was safe to hold the beard then it was safe enough to think about picking up my scissors, not before. Never endanger the dog!
Is it just an issue with his front feet that makes him aggressive. Even when you were clipping his body he seemed not too bothered. Have you tried a hammock style harness with him? Could be good for him, I know its helped me a lot with certain grumpy dogs and they can't get away which is such a help.
@cazkelly1986 Hammock or waist band nooses are dangerous, in my opinion as they can hurt the kidneys and other internal organs. He is aggressive because he has been allowed to win by other groomers who were afraid of him. This learned behaviour is now so instilled in this dog, he is a danger. This method makes it so that he never wins, but is never 'forced' into situations that make him even more dangerous to himself.
@lissamiss I have been fortunate that most dogs do submit to this technique. I never allow dogs to "win" a fight by stopping grooming. Then they learn that bad behaviour can stop the process and will be that much more dangerous next time!
@lissamiss hi im a dog groomer and some times it takes a while depending on bred and how stubborn the dog is lol ! i have actually been bitten and with a really mean stubborn dog that has just nearly missed my hand i put him on his back until a submission then that calms them down and they learn there not gonna get away with there behavior and alot of time i dont use a muzzle cause i really dont like to ! and u do it calmly and firm but your not being mean its letting the dog know whos boss
What are you trying to prove by not grooming this dog with a muzzle? The muzzle does not hurt the dog, it protects our hands from their mouths, and protects their mouths from biting something sharp like out scissors and clippers. Kudos on the head though, calming him down for that part is best.
@fluffykat1 This dog is so aggressive you cannot get a traditional muzzle on him and it makes him way worse to deal with. A good dog handler knows when you can push a point and when it's too dangerous for all involved to force the issue.
@msminnamouse Anyways, the dog calmed down once he learned that he wasn't getting hurt. All he needs is someone to feed him treats while being groomed and praised for good behavior and acceptance so he can build a calm and positive association to it. His owners needs to work on having him used to this in between actual groomings, but I do realize that owners rarely do what's recommended.
@msminnamouse most times with devices like Groomer's Helper you 'force' the issue which puts the dog on the defensive. I'm not saying that it doesn't work for others, but it just isn't my style.
@fluffykat1 you cant muzzle that dog anyway- it has a risk of it trachea collapsing because it falls under the list of breeds who are breathing challenged. she did the correct thing and secured the dogs head.
@fluffykat1 Certain breeds like this one should not be muzzled. Taking your time, having patients, and retraining the pet to love grooming rather than hate it is the key.
Why is this dog not wearing a muzzle?? Any dog that tries to bite me gets to either have their mouths tied shut or wear a nylon muzzle! It doesn't hurt them and spares me any painful bites!
my dog is just like this if not a lil more bad she had a groomer but he told me he couldn't do it no more becuz she was to bad does any one know were is a grooming place i can't take my dog i live in la
There's a tool out there called a groomers helper-it hooks to your arm so the dog cant spin-check it out-helps tremendously-best tool I ever bought!!!
Man, this is a great video. If I were a groomer I'd always try to get aggressive dogs because I am such a wannabe behaviorist.
