@goofwear1 When I run your installer, I only have the option to install to my D:\ drive and not my C:\ drive, and it does not allow me to change the install directory. Any ideas?
Im currently working on getting it to open other formats by default. Im working with some one via email on making changes and fixes . once i getting working on my machines Ill release a version 2.0 sorry EVERY ONE for late responses , i work over 40 hours a week ill try to get to all your questions asap
@goofwear1 i also want to make it default for everything, and i also use detail view, and there is no icon for it... apparently windows 7 doesn't let you change icons either... another thing to hate about it... can you make a small icon for it, or even just make it look like the detail view icon for jpegs... much appreciated.
How can I use this as the default thing to open files? When I try an select the executable for the default program it just takes me back to the previous screen by highlights nothing, and the new program doesn't appear.

im guessing you already noticed that this program has yet to be able to reach a certain frame rate for certain Gif images right? if you didn't notice, then i guess you know now lol. looking forward to progress with this, keep up the good work!
@InfernalOneShot shimgvw.dll error. , .. I think you need to right click the installer and run as admin , to install it, that way it can write the registry key . that tells it where to ind it and so on, i have it run a bat file that does this "regedit /s gif.reg
del gif.reg
del gif.bat "
it silently adds the registry key , then deletes the .reg file and then the .bat file from c:\ here is part of the key it adds.Document\shell\printto\command]
@pinkisshh click start, then run, and paste the line below in there and hit enter
regsvr32 "C:\shimgvw.dll"
are you running a 32x or 64x copy of windows, if 32 bit then right click on rundll32.exe and change compatibility to windows xp sp3, if 64 bit change it to vista NO service pack and get file here replace dotcom with .com in link below goofwear(dotcom)/windows/downloads/index.php?dir=64bit/ please let me know if it works
running Windows 7 at 64bit so I'm using it on Vista mode. all the gifs are running slower for me but it's bearable and this is the best I can find. thanks, bud!
This is, quite literally, exactly what I was looking for and it works brilliant! The genius who decided to remove Fax Viewer from Windows Seven shot themselves in the foot with that one. Thank you for bringing it back to us!
@JokuKakarot click link in descrription ""Update 6/1/2010 for 64bit users if you are tired of being asked "allow this program" every time you click a gif. Then go here download rundll32.exe to C:\ Then rigth click and change compatibility to Vista ""
@suppor7er You should not have to at all i think your antivirus or something like windows uac stopped the registry keep from being applied. you should be able to double click on any gif and have it open with the gif viewer.
Program works great! But windows 7 always asks me to allow it when I open it, with no option for "always allow this program". Any tips on how to stop this specifically this warning?
@TheOrangeFondler click link in descrription ""Update 6/1/2010 for 64bit users if you are tired of being asked "allow this program" every time you click a gif. Then go here download rundll32.exe to C:\ Then rigth click and change compatibility to Vista ""

@2theOmega disable norton and download and install it. i used " Bytessence Install Maker" remove (dot) bytessence(dot)com/bim.html to make it. norton's just complaining. check the comments on the video some one had the same problem as you. hope that helps
@Xbox360gamerJake No i am sorry , only a few gifs actually do that. this works the "SAME" as the xp picture and fax viewer. sorry for the late response I never log in
@Xbox360gamerJake Really they were? I'm very sorry about that. I don't know what to say , I have never really had a problem, just about 3 gifs i have had played slow. it might be windows and the compatibility mode. but I had to try different modes and i also tried it on 64 and 32 bit , and if its not set to the proper compatibility it wont even run the program
1blackboard the run.dll is in the c drive just sitting there . the installer should take care of all the stuff for you. you might need to right click and run as admin also it ads a registry key so when you right click our click a gif windows will use the gif viewer instead. please let me know out that fixes it. or your anti virus complains it happens to some one who had Norton
This is awesome and it works.. Just some thoughts: so basically, if I understand this correctly, it's a copy of the windows vista shimgvw.dll (Windows Picture and Fax Viewer Library), and a rundll32.exe to handle that dll (which compatibility is changed to vista, otherwise win7 wouldn't be able to run it?). How does win7 know it should use these files by default, and how is rundll.exe handled?? I don't get it at all, do I? Anyway, thanks for this awesome solution to win7's lame gif shortcoming..
@RavenholmHunter Hey , I don't blame you at all. Its impossible to trust people on the internet. but if you have a copy of xp you can go get the file your self. and but it in your c drive. and when you say change it to xp you mean the compatibility, or the file from xp
@TheKlimat yes. if you still have the installer. then right click and extract it to your desktop and in wordpad or notepad++ open the ".reg" file and change gif to jpg save it. and then double click the reg key to add it,. then doe the same and replace it to png.
@goofwear1 Seems since I messed with bmp and jpeg already, only the other registry files took effect for some reason...and then messing with everything, trying to get it all back to normal, now nothing but gifs will open with the Windows 7 gif viewer once more.
I think there's a bit more to reg hacking around the stuff here than it seems.

Hi, I've been trying to download this, but my Norton Security keeps deleting it before I have the chance to do anything, and I can't stop it. Help please?
@Kirakoda right click on Norton and disable it while you are downloading , then install the gif viewer and then right click and re enable norton. let me know if that works.
