  • @goofwear1 When I run your installer, I only have the option to install to my D:\ drive and not my C:\ drive, and it does not allow me to change the install directory. Any ideas?

  • This really work!! Coool!

  • Any way to open up multiple instances of your viewer at once?

  • @goofwear1 its ok i fixed it.

  • It lags on some images..

  • Im currently working on getting it to open other formats by default. Im working with some one via email on making changes and fixes . once i getting working on my machines Ill release a version 2.0 sorry EVERY ONE for late responses , i work over 40 hours a week ill try to get to all your questions asap

  • @goofwear1 i also want to make it default for everything, and i also use detail view, and there is no icon for it... apparently windows 7 doesn't let you change icons either... another thing to hate about it... can you make a small icon for it, or even just make it look like the detail view icon for jpegs... much appreciated.

  • How can I use this as the default thing to open files? When I try an select the executable for the default program it just takes me back to the previous screen by highlights nothing, and the new program doesn't appear.

  • im guessing you already noticed that this program has yet to be able to reach a certain frame rate for certain Gif images right? if you didn't notice, then i guess you know now lol. looking forward to progress with this, keep up the good work!

  • Absolutely brilliant! Thankyou

  • Is there a way to save it besides GIF Image? Like GIF Animation? 'cause I'm only getting GIF Image.

  • @starpilot1241 Im not really sure what your asking can you please re word that

  • @goofwear1 So, how do I set this up to open jpegs, bmps, pngs, etc. etc. by default?

I tried to tell Windows to use shimgvw.dll but when I try to open a jpeg or whatever it tells me that it's not a valid win32 app.

  • I've got the shimgvw.dll error. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and I changed the compatibility to vista on rundll32.exe. What should I do?

  • @InfernalOneShot shimgvw.dll error. , .. I think you need to right click the installer and run as admin , to install it, that way it can write the registry key . that tells it where to ind it and so on, i have it run a bat file that does this "regedit /s gif.reg

    del gif.reg

    del gif.bat "

it silently adds the registry key , then deletes the .reg file and then the .bat file from c:\ here is part of the key it adds.Document\shell\printto\command]

    @="C:\\rundll32.exe C:\\shimgvw.dll,ImageView

  • Never mind it works!!! :D i love this!!

  • Its not working i keep getting error message /:

  • As soon as i downloaded the first one, I got a virus alert.

  • @Lalamauchi I BET your using NORTON. your getting a false positive.

with10412 downloads as of today , and 16,215 view if it was a virus people would be complaining, here i posted it it on a public forum

    replace *** with .

  • Metascan Online,multi-scan filesfor malware using 16 antivirus engines!

My results.link is in the Info section of the video up top

  • I hope this has helped you , and i hope i didnt come off as rude.

  • @Lalamauchi were you able to get it working yet?

  • yeah nice, works fine ! thanks for the tutorial ;D

  • I have a problem with shimgvw.dll. PLEASE HELP!

  • @pinkisshh whats the problem with it ?

  • @goofwear1 I installed it, but when I tried to open GIFS with it they couldn't open it as shimgvw.dll was corrupted or something.

  • @pinkisshh that happened to me too!

  • @pinkisshh click start, then run, and paste the line below in there and hit enter

    regsvr32 "C:\shimgvw.dll"

are you running a 32x or 64x copy of windows, if 32 bit then right click on rundll32.exe and change compatibility to windows xp sp3, if 64 bit change it to vista NO service pack and get file here replace dotcom with .com in link below goofwear(dotcom)/windows/downloads/index.php?dir=64bit/ please let me know if it works

  • running Windows 7 at 64bit so I'm using it on Vista mode. all the gifs are running slower for me but it's bearable and this is the best I can find. thanks, bud!

  • This is, quite literally, exactly what I was looking for and it works brilliant! The genius who decided to remove Fax Viewer from Windows Seven shot themselves in the foot with that one. Thank you for bringing it back to us!

  • @JokuKakarot click link in descrription ""Update 6/1/2010 for 64bit users if you are tired of being asked "allow this program" every time you click a gif. Then go here download rundll32.exe to C:\ Then rigth click and change compatibility to Vista ""

  • @suppor7er You should not have to at all i think your antivirus or something like windows uac stopped the registry keep from being applied. you should be able to double click on any gif and have it open with the gif viewer.

  • Program works great! But windows 7 always asks me to allow it when I open it, with no option for "always allow this program". Any tips on how to stop this specifically this warning?

  • @TheOrangeFondler click link in descrription ""Update 6/1/2010 for 64bit users if you are tired of being asked "allow this program" every time you click a gif. Then go here download rundll32.exe to C:\ Then rigth click and change compatibility to Vista ""

  • @suppor7er Your doing it wrong . :) lol when you right click the gif and select open with . Click "Choose program " then select windows 7 gif viewer and then "CHECK THE BOX " that says Always use the program selected to open this kind of file and THEN CLICK ok. I hope this helps :) :) ... if so please respond

  • Um.... when i tried to download this from the goofwear site, norton went off and said this program was a threat.

  • @2theOmega disable norton and download and install it. i used " Bytessence Install Maker" remove (dot) bytessence(dot)com/bim.html to make it. norton's just complaining. check the comments on the video some one had the same problem as you. hope that helps

  • CorruptionX brought me here.

  • Is there any way to make the frames display quicker? I've compared IE explorer and this and IE is much smoother.

  • @Xbox360gamerJake No i am sorry , only a few gifs actually do that. this works the "SAME" as the xp picture and fax viewer. sorry for the late response I never log in

  • @goofwear1 Thats odd because all the ones I compared (about 20) were slower with this...

  • @Xbox360gamerJake Really they were? I'm very sorry about that. I don't know what to say , I have never really had a problem, just about 3 gifs i have had played slow. it might be windows and the compatibility mode. but I had to try different modes and i also tried it on 64 and 32 bit , and if its not set to the proper compatibility it wont even run the program

  • a great help, many thanks :)

  • 1blackboard the run.dll is in the c drive just sitting there . the installer should take care of all the stuff for you. you might need to right click and run as admin also it ads a registry key so when you right click our click a gif windows will use the gif viewer instead. please let me know out that fixes it. or your anti virus complains it happens to some one who had Norton

  • i dont got the rundll32.dll on my destop >.<

  • Brilliant. Thank you!

  • I've got an error with the shimgvw.dll...

  • @cepomwa same, did you ever fix it?

  • @WiredKill yes it was my mistake, in fact you've got to set compatibility to vista or XP in properties.

    Watch carefully the video.

  • @cepomwa Yeah i figured that part out myself :D

  • @cepomwa same the initialization routine failed?

  • @cepomwa ooh u gotta set compatibility mode to windows vista

  • @ryancrazy1 Yes yo do , I had to try them and see what worked for 32 bit and what worked for 64bit

  • @ryancrazy1 goofwear.com/windows/ the first pick is for 32 bit, and the second pic that says update flashing in red is for 64 bit

  • This is awesome and it works.. Just some thoughts: so basically, if I understand this correctly, it's a copy of the windows vista shimgvw.dll (Windows Picture and Fax Viewer Library), and a rundll32.exe to handle that dll (which compatibility is changed to vista, otherwise win7 wouldn't be able to run it?). How does win7 know it should use these files by default, and how is rundll.exe handled?? I don't get it at all, do I? Anyway, thanks for this awesome solution to win7's lame gif shortcoming..

  • THANK U!!!!!

  • Thank you a million, this is fucking fantastic

  • thx mate..it really works...i was searching for this many days... :)

  • @SHadOw4800 Im glad it worked for you :) thanks.

  • I am bit suspicios about changing rundll32 to windows XP.

Sorry man, wont do it :/

  • @RavenholmHunter Hey , I don't blame you at all. Its impossible to trust people on the internet. but if you have a copy of xp you can go get the file your self. and but it in your c drive. and when you say change it to xp you mean the compatibility, or the file from xp

here you can read the user comments

  • @goofwear1 Why thank you ! I will boot XP on virtual and try this out, thanks man :)

  • Thanks. But here is another question. Can I also associate this with .jpg, .png and stuff?

  • @TheKlimat yes. if you still have the installer. then right click and extract it to your desktop and in wordpad or notepad++ open the ".reg" file and change gif to jpg save it. and then double click the reg key to add it,. then doe the same and replace it to png.

  • @goofwear1 Ah, on it...you should really have it do all that stuff by default IMHO.

  • @goofwear1 Seems since I messed with bmp and jpeg already, only the other registry files took effect for some reason...and then messing with everything, trying to get it all back to normal, now nothing but gifs will open with the Windows 7 gif viewer once more.

I think there's a bit more to reg hacking around the stuff here than it seems.

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO UNINSTALL THIS?!?! PLS TELL ME

  • @MileyBeary Im not sure why you would want to uninstalll it. but just go into you c drive and delete the rundll32 file. and the shimgvw.dll.

  • @goofwear1 ....you

    thank you very much !

  • doesn't work for me...

  • hey but i dont have windows 7 64 bit i have 32 bit so plz help how to do it plz help :(

  • Hi, I've been trying to download this, but my Norton Security keeps deleting it before I have the chance to do anything, and I can't stop it. Help please?

  • @Kirakoda right click on Norton and disable it while you are downloading , then install the gif viewer and then right click and re enable norton. let me know if that works.

  • thanks~ this really helps

  • @otx104 Your welcome I'm glad it helped you. :)

  • thank you!

  • I tried this, but the gif files still open with IE.

How can I associate the gif files with the program?

  • @Donanfer Just reinstall by right clicking and instal as admin. If that does not work, right click the gif and click open with open with windows 7 gif viewer or picture and fax viewer..

It Probably did not work the first time you did it because after installed the program runs a bacth file to silently install a registry key to assosiate the gif with the gif viewer. Youmay have to restart your pc.

P.s. Please let me know if this works for you. If not PM Ill send you the reg key.

  • THANK YOU T__________T

  • @Marshmallows33 Thank you for trying it and using it .
