People are loved and revered for many different reasons, and we love and revere our beloved Prophet (PBUH) because beside being the most righteous human to walk on God's Earth, He brought the last revelations, the only revelation that was sent to ALL humanity and not to a local tribe. He had always (even before his prophethood) enjoined good & advised against evil.

Muslims consider Mohammad the best human being, of course that doesn't mean he was perfect because only God can be perfect. We also feel indepted to him because he abolished so many evil deeds and did his job in the best way so that we can truly know god in the best way. Also, on the day of judgement, we believe that he will be like a lawyer for each Muslim when their sins are presented in front of God, and will try his best not to get us to go to hell or at least reduce our punishment.
