  • What guitar is this?

  • I'm wasting far too much time trying to master this riff!!!

  • @49Ibanez It's never a waste of time.

  • @danielearwicker Either you have it or you dont Daniel and you obviously have it..cheers!

  • @danielearwicker Have a gorgeous epiphone cherry red 335 and it justs hangs on my wall wanted to play like johnny buy i couldnt the mustard but the instrument is a work of art asthetically and your a fantastic player Daniel as close to Johnny as ive ever heard a guy and his guitar is like a love affair i hope i can learn to love playing again cheers mate

  • @49Ibanez Its a cunt to learn take it from me but fantastic to listen to

  • @dermot51 I've just about got it now,

after lots of trying, still bluddy hard to do!! :L

  • I wish I could find a proper tab for this :(

  • I've been sitting here five minutes and I only got half of it firgured out :(

  • I think you've caught the beauty of that tune absolutely perfectly......

  • It would be awesome if you did a full cover of this

  • whatever happened to the version of this song you did with the rickenbacker? it was sort of different from how the song actually sounds but i thought it was brilliant.

  • @pCeLobster I got sick of people pointing out that it wasn't right. Watching this one now it seems quite sloppy to me. Since figuring out that way of playing it I tend to idly pick it out a lot and so I've got much better at playing it... Bejesus... more than three years ago? That has freaked me out... I have no concept of time passing these days.

  • @danielearwicker haha i know it's scary how time goes by. funnily enough though, that vid of yours got me into the smiths to begin with. i was looking up rickenbacker vids because i was thinking about buying one, and it came up. i was actually disappointed when i heard the real song because it didn't sound like your version!

  • @danielearwicker I've found exactly the same thing... Almost every time I pick up a guitar, I end up playing this on it, and as a result I have become much better at it! Obviously nowhere near Marr though. Needless to say, really.

  • I have that guitar!!!

  • Great playing! Really like your tone.. What amp do you use? Do you like your guitar? Thinkin of getting one of those myself, or a 72 Custom.

  • i just got this guitar over the weekend, it's great! anyways, amazing playing as usual!

  • It's amazing... I've never known anybody that can play this song so smoothly. You're inspiral Dan!

  • Good job. You captured the feel of the song very well!

  • That a tele? Id prefer that over the rickenbacker any day.

  • Great, but a little too fast

  • Comment removed

  • not perfect.. but very very well done! *****

  • sounds a little tite to me. ya might want to have a few beers first and then try.......seriously try it

  • DC rocket73, what stupid comment!!!

  • Tab please!

  • Oh my god

    you rock!!!

I have a live version on iTunes from a japanese import CD

    it sounds perfect!

    again you rock!!!!!

  • mate this is great

  • If anyone has got the tabs for thi, send it to me!

  • I play it differently with open chords but this is more accurate as if you listen to the live recording you can hear hes playing up and down the neck, so this is probably right. Nice one.

  • Hey man, how can you achieve that tone? I've got the same guitar and a fender deville but my tone is lower, I even changed the humbucker pots for 1meg but it stills sounds darker...is it because my neck is a rosewood instead of a maple one?

  • I had one of those guitars myself and didn't get that tone either

it's definently a telecaster "custom" as in keith richards etc.. and he's got the pickup selector in the middle

  • Maybe its the amp

  • turn the mid on your amp down to about 1 and turn the bass to about 5 with the treble all the way up.

  • I'll try mate, thanks

  • Fantastic . There are some who comment that its too fast but If you listen to the live version on you tube 12.12.86 its the same speed, so Daniel once again brilliant

  • This is perfect, and your mexican tele sounds great.

  • Interesting how you keep your ring finger planted through the whole song. That must be one of the keys to playing it smoothly.

  • I never noticed that before! I just played it to make sure and it never leaves the D string. There's something very mathematical about it - the ring finger on the D string is the invariant.

  • @danielearwicker I agree its slightly mathematical - I feel a lot of Marr's riffs can be described like that. Very crisp, precise playing - almost the anti-Hendrix in a way....Its the little things like when he has a riff shape and plays the B string as the top note first time, and then the second time around plays the high E string. Its the attention to detail and sheer musicality.

  • @buckleyboyben Yes, Marr's secret weapon is that he is not a guitarist in the usual sense, he's a composer. He just uses the guitar in the same way other composers use the piano. It's nothing to do with the sound, it's not about making noises, it's about the notes/melody/harmony/syncopation, which is why it affects our minds. The intro of Girl Afraid has more musical ideas packed into it than most guitar player's whole careers.

  • Do the studio version!

  • marrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr master,,, suena hermoso,, beatiful ! great job

  • johnny marr = guiitar god

  • So true about marr being a guitar god

I am a huge smiths and morrissey fan. only lately (last 5 years..lol) have I

come to realize how amazing Marr is with his guitar playing and song writing skills

    pure bliss

btw...great job playing this song. it sounds great..u do a great job on it

  • sickkkkkkkkk

  • it's not fast, man: it's the madrid '85 live version... the best version

  • hey! very nice version!, but a little bit fast. i think you should try to play it more slow.but you are a very good guitarist, so keep on working!! :)

  • Olhando, é bastante fácil, eu quero ver fazer !

  • awesome dude you are good;)

  • Impressive. all those changes are hard to do especially at that speed. Nice work

  • thank you , i just try to play some smith's title for a futur live, you are great player man ,

  • Good playing!

  • nice work man. :)

  • Well, Daniel, it's a long time ago since i last commented you.

Have you ever noticed... you actually made this song popular :D

Since you uploaded you're version there are a lot of new covers on youtube, but you're version is still the best!

  • Seems to be very difficult

  • i like your fingers

  • Accurate but played too fast, you sound like you're in a hurry to finish it..... was dinner ready? :)

  • Excellent rendition, mate -and so are all the others you've posted. Guys like you are a blessing to folks like myself who can figure out how a song is played by watching someone else but can't accurately decipher songs by ear. You've a real gift there. I'm now looking forward to binning my own much less accurate method and playing this tune properly. Thanks.

  • Nice.. very nice dude :)

  • Astonishing! I thought u were Marr! I also love ferrell's video from smiths in brixton academy. You gotta do it with one bass player too, that'll sound fantastic (of course, if the bass player can keep up with you, man)

  • Great cover! Sweet tone on your Tele also!

  • what happened to the version of this song you did with the 12 string ric?

  • what i'd pay to be able to do that

  • whers your other some girls video? es favorito.

  • spot on chap - well done!

  • Dude that was so beautiful. I could have closed my eyes and thought you were Johhny Marr.

  • That's how you play it! One of my favorites!

  • great song

  • Wow!!!! You're darn good! Great stuff :)

  • I got the tabs! Make sure you figure out how to contact me if you want them ^^ they're pretty accurate

  • could you send me the tabs?

  • need your e-mail address, you can send me a message on my account.

  • can i get them from you? tabs?

  • ah.. Daniel.. I'm sitting here with a Capo and my fotoflame tele trying to figure out where your fingers are moving from this vid.. :-P you're too good.

  • Perfettibile, ma non era facile

  • I never thought i'd say this infront of the blessed mr. earwicker, but my love for this song is bigger than for any girl :P PLEEASE anybody who can give me the tabs! The whole thing im playing is just wroong! help! Thx

  • Could you please, tell me/us the chords you use, i think the picking pattern i could figuere out for myself, i understand that it's too much work for you to tab the song completely i would be too lazy for that to ;-)

by the way, you're an amazing player

  • I'm a massive Johnny Marr fan and you see a lot of videos on here and think 'what are these people on? that sounds nothing like it' but this is really impressive. nice one

  • Is there anybody who know about music, who could help me to finisch the "Some girls are bigger than others" riff. I posted a video of the part i've just learned by ear, correct mistakes aswell :P thanks. Props to mr. earwicker perfectly remade song!

  • you should really think of tabbing all this stuff, there's no good smiths tab on the internet...and, well, since marr ain't gonna do it, you have to...someone should point out now that even marr may not remember how to play those song today...

  • Nevermind, I figured it out.

  • Tabs please?

  • I think maybe you're playing a little bit fast...?

    still, fantastic :D

  • Fucking love the live version, its lush. "you are a weird cunt Johnny Marr" haha.

  • Thank you!

  • the live version is far better in my eyes! well played! glad you put this one on as well as the album version!

  • beautiful guitar work man.

  • Amazing stuff my friend, keep up the great work.this song is wonderful. Morrissey23 to awnser your question marr played the live vesion with the capo on 6th fret i believe... and studio on 3rd,this is the live version :D try play the live version off miserbable lie please, would be fab !

  • Oh yea try playing it on Capo 3rd Fret I am positive that is the key Marr played it on.

  • I think your darn close but something is missing. But very good. I love your work!

  • i posted the tab for this (the live version) on the very first guitar tab archive at nevadaedu in 1991 or 1992 (now called "the guitar archive"). I've since seen the tab copied to many other sites. you can find it at: guitartabcom.

  • Just search ultimate-guitar dot com for the song,u will find a killer tab, cant link it here though(stupid Utubve) ,not for live but just put capo on, but i think this is the best version.

  • Daniel, I'd love to see you do this together with the bass. I always found that the riff sounds brilliant on guitar alone, but add a bass to it and it's magic!

  • well done! I was thinking about doing this on my acoustic. I figured it out all right and I used to play it in my band 10 years ago. But sadly my technique is not as fluent as yours. You do this song justice.

  • Great job....keep up the good work! How long have you been playing?

  • good job ! more smiths song if you want !

  • This is brilliant, especially since I don't have a 12 string to play the other version! Duly subscribed to your videos.

  • i dont want to take away from his work, but i do have a tab for anyone interested. it's a bit different from here, but should do the trick.

  • Hi i'd love a copy of the tab. Can this be sent by reply or do I need to send an email address? Do you do a version of this song yourself?

  • well done, my friend. but really..

OMG YOU HAVE A CHIN AND POTENTIALLY A LOWER LIP

  • God, i need you tabs

  • Me have no tabs, sorry!

  • tabs authored by you.
