Economics is a soft science, applying math to it/approximations doesn't make too much sense, because there are too many variables that can't be defined just by using numbers. To me economy is a science that should empirically test which incentives drive people in different boundary conditions and which boundary conditions (like law, culture, religion ...) create growth also which of them lead to hunger/starvation/riots/war.
